What do I do if I want to keep the Run Dialog Auto Suggest History in Windows 10?
It has not been showing me the history ever since I upgraded to 10 from 8.1.
Just did a clean install on 10 and was researching another problem that required the run box but mine doesn't seem to work.
I get a response that 'it didn't open in a timely manner'.
I was trying to save an image from the internet and my fingers slipped on a key. Since then every time the save-as box opens, where the files should show, it is just grey. I will attach a picture to show the issue. Need getting back the thumbnails which should show where the grey bit is.
View 3 RepliesRecently installed win10 64 bit on this dell latitude D630 and all has mostly been going well. (Upgrade from a new win7 installation. I have installed many OSs on this laptop, and they have always been speedy, including win10 32 bit.
Problem developed a few days ago that is fairly annoying. When I right click on a file, and then select "properties", the properties dialog window can take up to 20 seconds to appear. Never had this problem. Other flaw which I think is related: When I make a shortcut to something, it takes 10 seconds for the arrow to appear on the icon.
This was always something that happened instantly before. I've turned off some services like superfetch, but no change. The computer is not laboring, there is just this delay on a common operation. This OS was cloned from another smaller and slower (5400RPM )hard drive, and I think the original did not have this problem. Have to check, but I've done a lot since then. Now a 7200 RPM drive. This HD was always fast. Never gave a problem, so I'm thinking it's OS related. Everything else seems normal/no delays.
when I open a folder to browse the files and say I want to copy/delete a particular file, then the confirmation dialog box is hiding behind the main explorer window, so I have to minimize explorer in order to click ok or the appropriate action that is needed.
View 6 RepliesADDING Libraries to and REMOVING the This PC folder from the Save As dialog? I know how to remove and add these in File Explorer, but have no luck in finding a solution for the Save As dialog.I found this thread, but when I get to the value to be changed it already is set to that.
When you have an SSD drive with a secondary HDD for files, you can remap libraries to the HDD but saving files from a program is a problem. I guess another option would be to remap the This PC folders to the HDD and not show the libraries.
I have a problem with pop up dialog boxes on Windows 10 not displaying the content fully. Its rather frustrating as I can not see most of the text or the buttons to click on. I have changed my resolutions to different ones and also display size but the problem still persists. It only seems to do this with pop up dialog boxes, such as software installation boxes. My display is a 48" Samsung 4K TV rung HDMI from a Nvidia GTX 980Ti GPU.
View 1 RepliesHow do I remove the dialog box telling me to update drivers ? I have automated updates from HP so I do not require a new program that wants to install on my computer. I'm confused as to whether it's from MicroSoft or some scam.
View 2 RepliesI have Win10Pro (upgraded in place from Win8.1Pro) and every time I click on a link in an email, I get the "How Do You Want To Open This" dialog box. I always click on Internet Explorer and I always check the box "Always use this app" but I still get this dialog popping up EVERY time I click on a link.
View 9 RepliesNo matter what, I seem unable to change the default app with which a certain file type is opened. The moment I change the app, the "Always use this app" is disabled so I can't check it.
View 1 RepliesIt seems now that every time I run or delete an EXE file, the system makes me type in the password for the Administrator; especially as I typically do stuff in the dark, having to locate the keys for my password is a real pain. Now, I don't mind having that dialog box come up and making me simply click on the button (or hit Enter, etc.) In fact, if this is something that can prevent "drive-by" downloads or other nefarious stuff from happening, I want it (although I still mind typing in the password). In Windows 7, the system behaved in this latter way, and I'd like Windows 10 to behave in the same way.
View 3 RepliesEvery time my computer reboots, some or all of the dialog boxes for my external drives open on the desktop. I am just wondering if this is an indication of something more serious going on or should I just forget it?
View 3 RepliesI am having an issue after using Windows 10
Before using 8.1 , when wanting to upload a certain file to a website or where ever , There is a pop up windows that let's you search to file to upload , after clicking the button on that particular website, now in Win 10 , when clicking the button the file search popup (Open dialog box) windows fails to appear and so cannot search and upload the files.
I have pinned "Recent Places" folder (%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecent) and this folder shows in explorer windows in Quick Access area. This is OK.
But why this folder disappears from Quick Access aren in open / save dialogs in all applications?
Every other pinned items show up in both explorer windows and open/save dialogs...
I don't know if this is related to Win10, or an issue that existed with my Win8.1 before. I just noticed it after upgrading yesterday.
So, my firewall just prompted me about an outbound connection attempt by a file (named C:WindowsSystem32SIHClient.exe) and I didn't recognize it. I found it using explorer, and it's unsigned; so I visited VirusTotal.com and tried to upload it... but from the file upload browse box in Chrome I can't see the file! Even typing *.* and open doesn't remove the "filter" and reveal the file. (I finally ended up copying it to desktop and uploading from there, but still don't know what the file does.)
I thought that Explorer's "File View Options" (show hidden files, do not hide operating system files, etc.) were used throughout Windows once applied. Am I wrong? Should I suspect a virus or is this normal? What gives?
I tried to do a search but it didn't come up with much. where the Save/SaveAs/Open dialogs don't open and instead the app crashes? I've seen it in Notepad, Paint and Word. If I kill all explorer.exe processes, and then launch for example Notepad from Task Manager, the issue goes away, but as soon as I reboot, it returns.
View 1 RepliesHow see call history in Windows 10?
View 1 RepliesSo this is pretty critical: I use Win8.1's built-in File History back up to my external drive and it works great. What I need to know is, when I upgrade to 10, will it be able to bring that back up into 10 even though it was done on 8.1? Otherwise I'd have to go do it all by file; having it do itself would be much preferred.
View 2 RepliesNot for the first time in W10 I noticed a notification slide off the screen before I had a chance to read it..
I need to access those notifications, after all, I'm in charge of the West's nuclear arsenal and could have missed something damned important!
How do I review old notifications that got away from me?
In task manager on the app history tab I have a listing called Uninstalled Processes. In has used about 58 minutes of Cpu time since I cleared the history about a week ago. how I can find out what the uninstalled processes are or any info on this at all

View 1 RepliesSo if I try out a lot of apps, there's a history of the apps that I have downloaded in the Windows app store. Is it possible to clear this list especially for the free software that I have downloaded?
View 1 RepliesI know I can go to My Library and see every app I've ever downloaded but that's not useful, I've downloaded three times as many apps as I've kept. I want an update history list like the W8 mobile store has.
View 2 RepliesI have a Dell XPS 8700 with Win 10 Pro and 16 GB of Ram. I had to install Driver updates to Roxio Creator NXT 4 to copy and convert DVDs. I was asked what was the name of the updated drivers. How do I find the history in my computer for the driver updates?
View 2 RepliesI would like to clear my Reliability history after doing some program testing that generated a lot of errors. I cleared out all of the Event logs, but a number of errors are still showing in the Reliability history.
There was a tutorial in the Windows 7 forums as well as a similar Win 7 solution with a batch file at the Windows Club.
It appears that the files used to be stored in the ProgramdataMicrosoftRAC folder, which doesn't seem to exist for Windows 10.
I noticed this morning, when I was trying to correlate a problem I was having with Quicken, that my update history is missing from Settings. View your Update History. I realize that I can see it in Control Panel Programs. Programs and Features Installed Updates but I am curious if there is a way that I can bring this info back to Settings.
