View 1 RepliesJust built a X99 system, now I need to install Windows 10 and I don't have a optical drive but the copy of Windows 10 I bought is on a disc, so I need making a bootable Windows 10 USB. The USB is empty and formatted as a NTFS.
View 1 RepliesLaptop System: Toshiba P755-S5120 / 8GB Ram / PNY SSD 240GB / Ubuntu OS. I have a new copy of Win 10 Home USB.
The latest Ubuntu is currently installed on the SSD. I tried to replace Ubuntu by installing Win 10. I can boot from Win 10 USB, enter the product key, but the 'Where do I want to install Windows' dialog box shows the warning 'Windows can't be installed on drive 0 partition 1. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS'. I have the option to delete the partitions but not format. It doesn't ask me if I want to format the SSD anywhere during the process.
What would be the steps to get Win 10 on SSD or possibly reformat the SSD to NTFS?
When I made the decision to move to Win10 I also decided to get a new SSD. So I had Win8 on my HDD and I've been trying to get Win10 on the SSD. I tried cloning the drive however it does not look right and it won’t boot to the cloned drive.
I also tried installing Win8 on the SSD but it said the drive wasn't formatted correctly.

if so where and what is the command to execute it?
View 1 RepliesHave just upgraded to windows 10 and when I try to export a csv file using excel, the file is missing columns and not formatting properly. Have tested same csv file on different laptop (not upgraded to 10) and it's working fine. What I need to do to correct this problem.
View 1 RepliesI recently tried to fresh install Windows 10. I ended up getting stuck in a install loop with the error INCOMPATIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE so I tried to use a USB instead. This resulted in an error saying my USB was formatted in NTFS instead of Fats32 (even though I had just formatted it to be fats32).
My first question would be how to fix this error? Now, while trying to download Windows, I accidentally deleted my Linux partition (woops). My second question is to just delete all partitions on my hard drive and restart from scratch? I'm attempting this on a Lenovo Ideapad y510p.
ow slow Disk Cleanup has become if you choose 'Clean up system files' and select Windows Update Cleanup after a clean install of Windows 10?
Just the Windows Update Cleanup part is slow - took about 20-25 minutes to get through it today.
Never used to be like that and I'm pretty sure it's something recent. I've done a few clean installs of Threshold 2 since November and it wasn't slow like that until the past week or so (I've done 2 clean installs over the past week and they've both been slow with Windows Update Cleanup).
As I recall. Windows 8 had the same 'bug' and it now seems to have crept into Windows 10 (at least for me).
Just a curiosity of mine - Is there a difference between a clean install and performing an upgrade while keeping only the files? In other words, is this sort of upgrade the same as a clean install, only with the files restored to 'documents', desktop, etc.? Or, does the new windows folder contain remnants of the previous install.
View 1 RepliesSuccessfully upgraded to Windows 10, all applications and settings works perfectly and all previous problems are gone.
I've been facing a collection of annoying problems with my Windows 8.1, specifically setting saving problem, for example can't save settings like default app, folder and icon size, i didn't update to Win10 yet because i am working on very important projects.
My question is, do you think this kind of problems will be fixed after updating to Win10 by keeping all my files, programs, etc... ?Or should i do a clean installation of Win10 so my computer will be "system-new".
I am currently an Windows 7 Professional user, and I was seriously considering to jump to Windows 10.
After upgrading, I was thinking in doing a factory reset, in order to try to mimic a clean install of the system. When exploring the options on Internet, I discovered an option to clean de drives completely.
Currently I have 2 drives, my C unit where the OS and most of my software is, and a D drive, in which I have my music, documents, videos and other files not relevant for the system itself.
If I select the options to clean the drives, will it delete both drives or just the C drive?
I have a new rig and made a clean install with Win 8.1 Pro.
After that I directly upgraded to Win 10 Pro within running system.
Are there any advantages to do now a clean Windows 10 installation?
Even when using disk cleanup in admin account it will say deleted but after restarting and going back into disk cleanup they are back.Even using Windows app they come back after deletion. On another note system restore doesn't seem to work , i did a system restore and even though i got the message that system restore completed successfully after i rebooted my screen was frozen and i had to do a system refresh to get it up and running again.I have been waiting for it to delete my temp files for 8 minutes already.
View 9 RepliesJust upgraded to Windows 10, and now all of my acrobat files open with through internet explorer (whatever its called now) rather than through the acrobat program. As I result, I cannot edit my pdf files.
View 8 RepliesI ended up using an extra 2 GB or so of hard drive space after the windows 10 install. I ran desk cleanup and removed the old windows files which was a lot. But wasn't Windows 10 supposed to free up space?
Prior to install the computer showed 241GB of 297GB used. Now it says 256GB of 297 used. And this is after windows 10 disk cleanup removed the old OS files which was something like 20GB.
Under storage use it shows
System and Reserved - 49.7 GB inside of which 42.1 GB is system files. Isn't this a lot? The rest of the 7GB under system and reserved is 3GB Virtual Memory, 3GB System Restore and 1.5GB Hibernation file
Apps and Games - 6.83 GB (I have no games and besides the stock apps, I might have just 5 apps installed chrome, vlc player, ytd, ccleaner and iTunes
Temp files - 3.98 GB and I always kept this clean with ccleaner prior to win 10 install but been scared to run it after the update because I'm waiting on more ccleaner updates to save from issues (heard some horror stories using ccleaner on win 10)
One Drive - 51 GB used - I saved movies now this is saved in the cloud not on my hard drive right?
Background. This computer I just got a week ago. I was restored back to factory 8.0 and I than updated to 8.1 and than updated to Windows 10.
All my files are gone, but when I go into Windows Explorer the file system says that this PC has 856 GB out of 1.81 TB full, but I have nothing there. When I click on it all my games etc are not there, and I don't know how to get them back. When I reset Windows I clicked "keep my files" so where are my files? My internet is really slow and would take way to long to re-download and i wont have enough space because all my files are there i cant find them anywhere.

View 2 RepliesI freely upgraded to window 10 from window 8.1. I updated and running latest build of Window 10 and on activation page it say window is activated with digital entitlement . I had only one partition window C wheer window was installed and i created another partition F where i did put all my personal files. I want to clean drive C of PC where window and all applications are installed. Is there any programme to backup some applications i.e microsoft office and to remove all stuffs in drive C other than window 10. If not how to re-install window 10? If i use reset PC option in recovery then would i need any bootbale USB with window 10 on it? would it ask for any key to activate? I just want to reset C drive of PC with only activated window 10?
View 4 RepliesI'm about to do a clean install of Windows 10 pro 64bit on to a new SSD I just received in the mail and wondering how I will be able to activate it? I originally did an upgrade from Win7 Pro to Win10 pro and then a clean install from there back when Win10 pro first became available. I read that I can use the Windows Key on the back of my laptop but I'm not sure that will work because it's a whole new SSD.
View 6 RepliesAll the info I have found on a clean install has been about the Insider Preview, when the official upgrade is available at the end of July, will I be able to do a clean install?
View 6 RepliesMy PC was running 8.1 French version converted to English version (Reseller screwed up).In practice a lot of the stuff was displayed sometimes in Eng sometimes in French. I have the 8.1 French CD.So instead of doing the upgrade which I thought would result in another mishmash of languages, I did a clean install of 10 Home Eng via USB key downloaded install media.Apart from a few video probs (BSOD) blinking cursor, all went well.I cannot use 8.1 product key to activate. Looks like I may have to buy new product key for W10.
View 19 RepliesI had a licensed windows 7 PC and did the in-place upgrade to windows 10. However my main hard drive (an SSD) is too small and I want to upgrade it. I understand that if I do a clean install (from an ISO/USB) then windows 10 should still recognise my PC as it was activated.
However, if I change the hard drive (or add memory, add a graphics card etc) does windows still recognise my PC or do I have to go through the stupidty of installing windows 7, installing the service pack, waiting for the inplace upgrade to windows 10, activating, and then wiping everything in order to do a clean install!?!?!
I was wondering if I do a clean install when I get the free upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 10 if my device drivers (for my cpu, usb ports, wifi, etc) will stay.
