View 6 RepliesI had 2 useless partitions, one at the very beginning of my HD and the second at the very end. My setup is GPT Basic btw.
I would like to know, using MiniTool Partition Wizard version 9.1, if it is possible to merge these former partitions (now 'unallocated' space) into the Windows partition (C??
I right clicked on both of the unallocated space 'partitions' but any operations (namely, move) was greyed out.
I would like to clean up the disk layout (even if we are talking about only 1 GB. of space)
I just assembled a new PC. It has a single 4TB hard drive. During Windows 10 installation, I created a 200gb partition to install to as the C: drive. It auto partitioned my drive into a 500MB system reserved partition, my C: drive, and two unallocated spaces of 1852.69GB and 1678.02GB respectively. The 1852GB space I can create a partition on, but the 1678GB space I cannot do anything with: Cannot create a partition, and cannot combine it with the rest of the unallocated space.
I would like to combine the two unallocated spaces to create a single partition from the remaining unallocated spaces, but cannot figure out how. I contacted Microsoft tech support via chat, allowed them to remote in to my machine, but they could not determine the issue either.
This might be a really stupid question but i CANNOT find the setting to combine all my email accounts on the Windows 10 email app and it's really frustrating me, i searched all over google and can't find anything I just dont see the option anywhere.

View 1 RepliesI have had repeated BSOD with message (DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION) on a Lenovo E550 running Win 10 Pro 6 bit (upgraded from win 8.1pro 64). It occurred:
1. on sleeping, and
2. seemingly randomly. i.e. with applications open, idle with no applications open
I seem to have got around (1) by unchecking the "Turn on fast startup" option in Power Options. but the BSOD continues to occur at other times.I have used the Lenovo System update tool to update the drivers it can but have reached the limit of my current capabilities/knowledge so am looking for interpreting the dump files and troubleshooting. Per BSOD posting instructions I've run the utility and attached the zip file to the post.
I just bought a WD My Passport Ultra and it comes with a copy of WD Backup. Never using backup software I decided to give it a try and see what happens. I had no problems at all until I ended up with a message "These files failed to back up: UPPS.bin, 15.77kb". so I decided to try and find the file, which I found. The question is, what this file does and is it necessary to backup? Probably most of you know where this file is but for those who don't you can find the file at: C:UsersUser NameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsUPPSUPPS.bin.
View 6 RepliesI have a paid Utility that I use to set certain performance adjustments. What I'd like to do is find out exactly where I can make these same adjustments from within Windows 10, so I can make these same adjustments on a PC where I don't have access to that same utility.
Here is the first batch of settings, restart the Shell, force DLL unload from memory. Increase paged memory usage for NTFS. I can disable Auto Restart fro the Advanced Settings panel in System Info, so that's not a problem. The last item "Adjust Processor Scheduling for best performance of Programs/Services, I know where that is as well, so it's the top three settings I'm not sure where they are.
This one, I'm not sure where to shut off the prefetcher
And finally these three settings. which tell the system to shut down quicker.
But most important is at the very bottom there, "Automatically Close Non-Responding applications"-
Which is very useful when apps want to hang during shut-down.
I don't know exactly how the tool is doing some of these things.
I have the Utility in my home systems, so it's no problem here, mostly it's when I have to work on a PC when I am away from home, these particular settings useful with performance.
There are also some Networking settings, I don't know exactly how to duplicate:
Which is useful for various types of broadband networks. I've been dependent on tools like these since XP, I figure if the tool can make the adjustments, why can't I just do it directly?
The company I work for recently upgraded our computers to Windows 10.
My boss receives a Word document from our supplier every month. Before we had new computers, he used to print this off each time with no problems. However, when he clicks print now, nothing happens. The printer dialogue box appears for a second but nothing prints out and it is not left in the print queue.
He has forwarded the email with the Word document to myself and other colleagues and we all have been able to print it with no problems. So I thought it must be something wrong with his printer. However, he is able to print anything else. We have printed other Word documents, Excel docs, PDFs etc.
I copied the content of the document that he can't print onto a blank new Word document to try and print it. However, the same happens...It seems there is something in the actual document that is stopping the printer from printing it?
Running clean install Windows 10 pro, I did add a reg fix to enable photo viewer, which worked fine.
I have a many picture folders, which I was able to view all fine. Suddenly only on a few folders (approx 3 from 40) I started getting "windows photo viewer can't open this picture because either photo viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to photo viewer, error. I tried to view the same jpg's using Win10 photo and get the error "it appears we don't support this file format"... One folder has a BMP image which also won't open with any app, including paint.
Went to my backup copies, same issue. I can eliminate any malware or virus issue as I regularly scan my PC. I'm concerned because I could view these jpg's previously, I am thinking some sort of registry issue. I copied folder to USB and tried to open on another Win10 PC, with the same result. I then tried to open the jpg's on a Win 7 machine, same result. Have moved file from folder still won't open, check attributes of folder/files, I have full rights.
Now I'm concerned that the 40 or so "precious" files have become corrupt which would include my backup copies. The fact I've tried to access these files on three devices without success.
One Win10 device has the following event log entry;
"Activation of app Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App failed with error: The remote procedure call failed. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."
Copying un-effective JPEGS into the effective folders open, copying singles files from other folders to affective folder won't open.
I tried to upload a file that won't open, it returns the message photo1.jpg this is not a valid image file.
At a loss as I can't open these files on three devices...
Whenever I want to search for a specific program it doesn't show anything. For example if I search 'Steam' a program that exist in the OS, it will find nothing.
I also noticed that it doesn't search files that aren't inside the OS drive. (A song on another HDD)
I just recently got a Windows 10 PC, and I am having a problem. While general keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V) work in all applications, shortcuts specific to an application don't work.
View 4 RepliesI have restore point space limited to 2Gigs on my Tablet. I've noticed that when a new restore point is created at the top of the list, an old one is removed from the bottom of the list. Sooner or later, I will end up with totally new restore points. Is there a way to save one specific restore point, and not loose it? (without actually backing up (not an option on my Tablet) ).
View 6 RepliesThere are 2 specific websites that we were able to access just fine (about a week ago) on our home computer, phone, and tablet (at home) and on any browser.
Now, we cannot access these sites (gives 'server taking too long to respond' and ERR Connection Timed Out' through ANY browswer at our home and we CAN access them ONLY thru Firefox at our Shop/Business computer. (which uses the same ISP as our home, btw).
We have spent hours on the phone with our ISP and he did everything you could think of: Checked our Router, gave us a completely new IP, checked DNS, flushed DNS. Our sites would work when he checked them through I guess different proxy servers. And I CAN access them ONLY thru something like: Ninjaproxy.com.
These websites are through GoDaddy. We contacted them and they said they could access them fine, too.
I have increased timeout thru registry.
FireWall being on or off makes no difference
Ran various Antivirus, found no threats.
Checked both websites in question at Downforme.org and downforeveryoneorjustme.com. Both state it is 'Just You' that both sites are up and running/online.
I am thinking maybe a System Reset/Restore may work, but haven't tried that, yet.
WTF could this all mean? WHY are ONLY OUR COMPUTERS being blocked, yet various other friends (even with same ISP as us) can access them just fine?
Redirect Virus?
DNS issues?
Blocked/Hacked?
Go Daddy or our ISP at fault?
Every time i make a restart on windows 10 the icons take all the time the same order. For example i move 5 icons to the right side of desktop, then after restart all icons go to the left in order.I have no ides what is going on and i have tried lot of stuff with no luck.
View 1 RepliesI did an upgrade from 7, and then I went back and did a clean install of 10. Now two programs seem to open in negative space.
They arent opening off screen. i have tried setting display options from refresh to size and cascading windows to bring all open windows to the screen. Nothing.
However, when I Alt-Tab, the window is shown clearly. It shows an accurate preview of what is appearing on the screen, selecting it just does essentially nothing. This has led me to believe the windows are opening in limbo (negative space).
I just updated my laptop to Windows 10 and I'm having an issue with the driver for my fingerprint reader. Windows 10 keeps installing the latest driver software for it rather then the version that I manually installed. The problem with the newest driver is that it disables finger print sign in and windows hello. I had the same issue in Windows 8 but I was able to just go into Windows Update and disable the update, with Windows 10 I can't do that.
View 3 RepliesI want to stop error code 7031 from showing up in the event viewer log in win 10 (since its a redundant code that means nothing anyway), I do not mean just filtering it unless that is all that can be done, I want it gone.
View 1 RepliesSo I want to lock down a user account in a specific time or anytime that he'll not able to access the PC until morning, cuz my cousin been using my PC until midnight like there's no end and he'll just use it until 1am or 2am then sleep after. I have Windows 10 btw
View 1 RepliesI have a Toshiba Satellite S55-A5294 laptop computer. It is running Windows 10. I had the drive encrypted using Jetico's BestCrypt full disk encryption.
Several weeks ago, I was using Windows, put the computer to sleep, and when I came back an hour later and woke it up, I got the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen. This was followed by a message that automatic repair was unsuccessful. This problem has happened in the past. In the past, it was the result of a Windows update overwriting the BestCrypt bootloader (BestCrypt encrypts the system partition, so it has to have its own pre-environment password prompt, which can then pass to the mounted system). However, this time it wasn't the case.
As it turned out, I had a corrupted volume. I was able to recover my data. I pulled the hard drive out of the Toshiba computer, put it in a USB enclosure, and connected it to a Lenovo Thinkpad E530, also running Windows 10. In this configuration, I was able to decrypt the drive, and access my data.
I restarted my Lenovo and forgot to disconnect the Toshiba's hard drive. The Lenovo booted right up, into the Toshiba's desktop. I backed up my data, and, for good measure, made a disk image of the whole thing.
I pulled the drive out of the enclosure, and reconnected it to the Toshiba, from which it originally came. When I turn it on, however, I get a BSOD informing me that I have an error:
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, and the computer then automatically restarts. Upon restart, I receive either the same thing, or a "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen, which then tells me that my computer failed to boot, and suggests a restart. There is also the option for advanced troubleshooting. If I restart, I get locked into the same loop.
I am still able, however, to pull the drive out of that computer, and boot it up when it's attached to my other computer.
I tried connecting the drive to the Toshiba (the original computer from which it came) via the USB enclosure, and I still get the same errors. The Toshiba is able, however, to boot a Linux Live USB.
I know that the drive is bootable. And I know that the Toshiba is willing to boot. They just won't play together.
I ran chkdsk on the system volume, and found no errors. I tried using the Repair option on a Windows 10 installation USB, and didn't really get anywhere.
why the same disk would be bootable on one computer, and not bootable on the other.
Is there anyway to fix the photos app for a specific user account? On my main admin account it works ok. But there was a series of updates to some of the native apps a few days ago, one of those was the photos app. Since then the photos app will not work on my wife and son's user accounts (both standard accounts). Clicking on it brings up nothing. When I went into the store for their own accounts and searched for photos it actually gave an option to install it. I tried that and it went through the motions downloading/acquiring license but it made no difference. Still doesn't launch the app for them.
I don't particulary want to have to go through the process of deleting their accounts and setting them back up (which is time consuming). Creating a new user account does get the user a working photos app (as I did a test). Is there a simple way to do it without potentially breaking the photos app on other accounts (where it is currently working)?
I am aware of powershell fixes but I have read some horrible stories where the code just makes things worse and breaks a lot more especially in the current build of 10586. I'd want any attempted fix to be purely isolated to the affected user's account.
It does seem that the native apps have some pretty bad problems with updating and breaking down. Sometimes I go into the store and look at the check for updates section and see them seemingly stuck in the update process. Sometimes they need a bump to get them going. There seems to be a riskiness to when they are auto updating on my own user account and how it can translate to the other user accounts. In this latest scenario the photos app has been rendered useless for half the users of my computer. Why MS cannot make their own apps easy to uninstall and re-install is beyond me. All other non MS apps are easy to work with and can be uninstalled and reinstalled with comfort. Plus unlike the MS native apps they seem to have no trouble updating themselves!
What does "%1" means in windows file open popup, or what program causes it? I think it's associated with picture file types (jpg, png, gif...)
Is there any way to delete it or find what program causes it and fix it by re/uninstalling that particular app?
In Microsoft Edge, how do I open a specific web page while I open a new tab?
View 1 RepliesAfter installing windows 10 on my HP laptop PC, some keyboard keys have stopped working. The keys that don't work are: { 'escape' 'g' 'h' 'backspace' }. I am sure it is not a hardware problem because on occasion, all the keys that previously did not work, start working again. In fact, as I am typing this thread, my keys are working correctly. When they stop working, I try to uninstall or update the driver in device manager but that does not work. Keep in mind this started happening after installing Windows 10. I have not had this problem in Windows 8.1.
View 9 RepliesThe new Parental Control system is generally a big step forward, though I disagree with the kids having to have an email / Microsoft account and would prefer to be able to leverage local accounts.
One area that could do with a little tweak is around the Screen Time. Specifically, I may want to allow my child an hour a day of general screen time, but limit access to a particular game / app to 1 hour per week to stop them getting obsessed. Sure I can just block them after the fact, but it would be better to allow you to define the rules up-front.
Occasionally my IE 11 Process will become suspended. When this happens I can still use the IE window I have open but many other things stop working correctly. I've attached a screen capture from Process Explorer to show you what it looks like. I've noticed several other processes becoming suspended such as ShellExperienceHost, Search and several others. Why they are becoming suspended. I'm running Windows 10x64 Pro on a Sager NP 7378, i7 4710 processor, 16 GB of RAM...
