View 8 RepliesI found that one can shorten the steps of shutting down windows by creating a shortcut on the desktop. by using this command "%windir%System32shutdown.exe /s /t 0" The shutdown exe file can be found in the directory above. I thought I may be able to create a similar shortcut but there is no 'reboot.exe' file in this directory so I assume it must have a different name. There are 4 files with the word 'boot' in it perhaps it is one of those.
View 9 RepliesIn Windows 8 and previous, we could execute the Task Switcher shortcut to programmatically bring up the Alt-Tab window without needing to press Alt-Tab. NOTE: This shortcut is located in: C:UsersDefaultAppDataRoamingMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch and is still present in Windows 10 after upgrading from 8.1
setting up a mouse shortcut button to bring up the task switcher. I had mine configured when clicking the middle wheel, the task switcher appeared. Then rolling the wheel allowed selection of the desired active application, and a second click of the wheel selected that application.after upgrading to Windows 10, the "Task Switcher" shortcut no longer works. When attempting to execute it, nothing happens.
Also on eightforums.com, I discovered a method of creating this shortcut manually (i.e. referencing the appropriate GUID shell action ( Shortcut - Create in Windows 8)
However, this has stopped working in Windows 10.Is there any way to recover this functionality in Windows 10?Also, as an added bonus, is there any way to bring up Task View in the same way? Task view shows all virtual desktops and may be a more efficient way of navigating open programs than the Task Switcher.
This inability to pin a url to the desktop started 4 days ago. What I have done so far. Ran sfc/scannow 4 times, scanned with Norton Security and Malwarebytes and searched in vain on the web. I called Microsoft and they did a remote connection and Would not research the problem because it works in IE and would not persue the issue further in Firefox and Chrome.
View 2 RepliesI would like to be able to rate or tag photos while I am viewing them to tag my favourites. Is there a way of creating a shortcut to enable me to do this on the keyboard rather than rating it and then pressing save (ie too many steps).

View 2 RepliesWhen I create a shortcut to file in Program Files, the target path for that shortcut will be to Program Files (x86), even though the start in path will be correct. Furthermore, even though the target path is incorrect and no icon is displayed for the shortcut, the shortcut still works.Shortcuts to items placed in the Program Files folder by an installer do not have this problem. It is only for files that are manually placed in the Programs Files folder by me the user, i.e. copy and pasted there.

View 5 RepliesFor some reason the shortcut for Windows 10 Mail has vanished from the Mail folder in All Apps:-
It was working fine after the initial upgrade of Windows 10 to V1511. Hence I cannot run Mail.
I am running Windows 10 Home (32 bit).
Is there a way to recreate the shortcut (if I try shell:appsFolder it does not appear in there)?

View 1 RepliesHow can I create a shortcut for My Computer (This PC) on desktop in Windows 10? Actually there are 2 kind of shortcut for My Computer:
1. If I just open File Explorer, from left panel I drag and drop This PC to desktop and a shortcut will be created on desktop (This PC - Shortcut). If I right click on that shortcut and choose Properties, "This PC - Shortcut Properties" windows will be opened, which is NOT what I want.
2. I need This PC shortcut that when I right click on it and choose Properties, "Control PanelSystem and SecuritySystem" is shown! And I don't know how to create this one!
I have upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When right clicking the desktop I only get the option under the "New" menu to crate a folder, no shortcut.
View 9 RepliesHave been adding many shortcut icons to the desktop by:
Right click on desktop/new/shortcut
Create shortcut window opens & I hit the browse button, which then opens a browser window where I can select "This PC" and navigate to C:Program files to select the .exe file.
This procedure worked well for about 20 items or so. Now when I get to the browser window, the only item in the tree is "Desktop/Gary" - Nothing else, so I can't get to C: drive.
In the meantime, I used File Explorer to locate the .exe file & right click/ send to desktop.
I am logged in as Admin. I have "Internet Shortcut" on the desktop. I also have "Details Pane" on. I try to change the description. But system asks for a permission form an local admin which also exists on the same machine?
View 9 RepliesI'm looking to turn the wifi itself on & off via a software switch in Windows 10. I'd like the fastest access to the function as possible, so i'd like to pin a shortcut for the switch in my taskbar. It doesn't have to be a built in function of Windows, a 3rd part program will suffice, except I can't seem to find one.
View 1 RepliesI have factually just installed windows 10, given it the time it required and let it load.
First, my mouse was missing and the desktop icon names were white with clear centre of the words.
So I restarted my factual laptop. I regained my mouse however the desktop icon shortcut names under the icons themselves still remain see-through without the usual black colour.
I understand that my "contacts" are now in an app called "People". I am using Google/Gmail to transfer all of my contacts to People, I also have several groups that I need to transfer or create to enable one email to go to several people in a group.
