Mar 5, 2016I've been using Windows 10 for weeks. Until today, it started up just fine by displaying my name and no email address. This is exactly how I want it to be.
Today when Win 10 would not recognize a printer, in order to download an "app" to work with this, I was required to provide a Microsoft email account, which I did (an old Hotmail account I rarely use). Now when I restart or wake up the computer, that old Hotmail account appears as "Administrator". However, I do NOT want that old Hotmail email address associated with this computer.
How can I remove it and get back to logging in with NO associated email address?
NOTE: I do not want to delete the old Hotmail account; just want to remove it from my Windows 10 "Account" menu (My name + Hotmail address + "Administrator").
In case it's required to associate Win 10 with an email address, I use Windows Live Essentials with a company email address. I tried adding it via the "Other Account" option, but Win 10 said it did not recognize the email address I entered, sigh.

Dec 5, 2015So I upgraded my Windows 7 to 10 a few weeks ago and have been loving it. Decided to upgrade my parents computer to it as well yesterday. When my mom wanted to play a Free Cell game they were asking me to log into a hotmail account. They only have an Aol email account. Figure I'd sign into mine really quick and that would be the last I'd heard of it. Unfortunately now the computer associates a random hotmail account of mine that I have lying around as their main "administrator" account. What's worse, now they need to use my password whenever they turn the computer now.
That's really silly How do I delete my administrator hotmail account from their computer? I don't want them to deal with having to remember a password for an account I rarely use myself. Its their computer, not mine.

Dec 6, 2015I have created extra partitions when I wanted to make a dual boot with Linux OS and Windows. I have had both Linux Mint and Ubuntu installed. After the second installation, I am not sure which of the partitions are used by Linux and which ones are used by Windows.
What I want to do, is simply get rid of all partitions, besides the ones used by Windows, but (I know it sounds dumb) I can't seem to find out which ones I can delete to go back to the original Windows boot (or if this is even possible without making a clean install).

Nov 13, 2015Okay, when I set up my computer (W10 Pro preinstall / Surface Pro 4) Windows put in my private address which is also my Microsoft user account - "myname@lastname.org" - as an Outlook account. It happens to be hosed in a Google Apps for Organizations account, so it runs best when the settings are for gmail. I added my personal gmail account, this apps account, and my business account to Mail.
Now I need to delete that fake outlook account, but the option to delete the account doesn't exist. It's just an annoyance in Mail as I can hide it by turning the sync off, but it's causing problems in Calendar because it always inserts itself as the default account and, unless I manually change the account every time, my calendar events get hidden and lost to the void that this account is.

Feb 17, 2016Not sure if I've set something up wrong, but when I delete mail from outlook on my WM10 phone, it removes it from my gmail account as well. but when I delete mail from mail app on my PC it only removes the copy on my PC.
Also when I delete gmail mail through web, the mail is deleted from my phone, but not my PC app.

Feb 23, 2016I have my hotmail account associated with Mail app in windows 10. I want to add my gmail account to Mail app but I just can't do it. When I click in Add an account in Mail app, nothing happens. I tried to click on Add an account in Settings --> Your email account, but nothing happens. I can't neither delete my hotmail account. When I click on Manage, nothing happens.
What I can do to resolve this problem? I'm running windows 10 pro on a Dell XPS 13.
Shift Delete Doesn't Delete File / Makes Multiple Sounds?
Mar 7, 2016When i press Shift+Delete to delete any file, it doesn´t do anything except maybe 10 beeps, its the sound it makes for example when asking for something or some pop-up windows like that. Also when I try this, like at this moment, when writing this in Chrome (which is pretty hard, because of the following things), it does weird things like typing random numbers, deleting the text, skipping the like if I pressed the arrows or enter button, also it was going back in browsing, all by itself. It happens more after when I press Backspace or Delete.
I don´t know what is happening, can´t believe this is a Windows function i don´t know about or if I should be worried about my keyboard or maybe even a virus. (I am not using any downloaded antivirus).

Samba just times out trying to access Windows machine where I'm logged on with an Ms account. Also I can't access other Windows machines from the Ms account. The other Windows machines can't access the Windows machine where I'm logged on with an Ms account.
All these problems DISAPPEAR when using a LOCAL account.
I think my future strategy will be just keep a MINIMAL Windows VM with an Ms account to GET the insider builds and then revert back to Local accounts.

Aug 14, 2015I upgraded my windows 7 to windows 10 my dell insperion computer. the original conversion to windows 10 seemed to go OK for a few days. The about 2 days ago, I created a MS user account to access some of the MS store apps. Now the original Windows 7/10 user accounts - local accounts i guess - 3 of them - that we signed in with have been replaced with 1 account - I believe to be the Microsoft account (different name and password).
When we sign in with that MS account and get in to the computer, we have a pop up box that says "Critical Error - Start Menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try ti fix it the next time you sign in." We can't do anything but select the pop-up box option of "sign out now". When we sign in again, it is the same thing.
I'm not sure if this is 1 problem or 2 different ones.
1. How do I get back my initial local user accounts, so I can access all of my programs and files?
2. How do I fix the Critical error?

Nov 12, 2015How can I create an admin account on a system that only has a standard user account? I suspect that the answer is that I can't, but I live in hope.
I can't provide specific details of the PC in question because it's my son's, and he lives 35+ miles away. He was running Win 8.1 but recently (in the past couple of days) upgraded to 10 and has run into a driver issue. He can't upgrade the driver because he doesn't have admin rights. I think he has an admin account on his system because I put it there, but it doesn't show up as a log-in option.
I've tried to enable the hidden admin account from a standard user acc on my system by running the command prompt as admin but am always to verify as admin - catch 22..

Oct 27, 2015Now that there are no parental controls on local user accounts, I set up a Microsoft account for each of my children so that I can limit screen time and accessibility to websites. I am now trying to merge their old local accounts to the new Microsoft accounts. I can log in to their local accounts and I can log in to their new Microsoft accounts, however, I cannot sign in to the Microsoft account from their local account (I'm only assuming this is how to do it). I go to settings, accounts, Sign in with Microsoft Account instead, enter email and password, enter old password, click Next and get the message "Oops, something went wrong Whatever happened, it was probably our fault. Please try again."
My goal is to save everything they have on their local accounts (Minecraft files especially) and get it over to the Microsoft account so that I take advantage of the parental controls. So, deleting profiles is not an option, but if there is a way to get everything moved over, then I can delete the local account, but how to move everything over.

That being said, I was interested in installing a couple of apps from the app store. However, it is requiring that I log in with my MS account to download and install them.

Sep 20, 2015I upgraded my kids' computer to Windows 10. It had an administrator account (for me to set things) and two separate user accounts for my daughter and my son.
I made the *mistake* of logging into Chrome with my Gmail acct ID while on my Daughter's user account.
Now, it's no longer her account. It has a password (It never had a password before). And instead of her name, it's literally my gmail account name.
I need to take some time to clean out the user account settings, but she has her steam, minecraft and other settings on her account. I don't really want to trash it and make a new one.

Jan 10, 2016There seems to be far too many recovery partitions and then some. This PC came with windows 8.1 but I upgraded to windows 10 a few months ago.
I also wondering if the proper recovery would take me back to 8.1 again or would it do a fresh install of 10. I hope it is 10.
File Will Not Delete
Sep 13, 2015I've ran into these before on previous versions of Windows, usually a file that has too long of a name or so it says but basically is just a corrupted file and I use WinRAR rename the file and delete it. But this file in particular I cannot get rid of. It was originally a jpeg, and when I went to rename it for deletion the file then became a blank file, no extension just a letter I put for the name. The file cannot be found by anything it seems, even the command prompt method of deletion gives me the same message. "Could not find this item. Verify the location." Which is weird because the command prompt does show the file in the directory but gives me that error when I try to delete it.
