The Windows 10 laptop can see the Windows Vista computer but as soon as it tries to see inside it gives an error about "spelling of the name, etc." If using the diagnosis tool it says "One or more network protocols are missing from this computer". My question can I format the the new Dell laptop and install a new copy of Windows 7. Or are there too many driver specific components on a new XPS that need Windows 10 to function properly.

Sep 16, 2015Got a new Dell laptop today that came with W10 pre loaded. Have installed dropbox, and spotify and AVG. Rebooted it a couple of times during all this and all seemed fine.
Now when it is switched on it shows the login screen and I enter the microsoft account password. It shows the desktop wallpaper, and the desktop icons, but it does not show the taskbar icons or the clock in the notification area. It shows the mouse pointer, which can be moved with the touchpad, but neither left nor right mouse buttons have any effect. The keyboard is unresponsive (despite working 5 seconds earlier to enter the password) so Alt-F4, Ctrl Alt Del and Windows key have no effect.
If the pointer is moved down to the taskbar it changes from the default arrow to the 'busy' circle, but after leaving it for half an hour or so, there is no progress. The only route I have found out of this is to hold the power button down to force a shutdown. When I power it back on the login screen appears, and I can move the cursor, type etc and everything seems normal. When I enter the password and login, I get the same thing again - wallpaper, desktop icons, but no clock and then no further response.
I got into safe mode and selected 'recover from restore point'. This failed (when did it ever work!?!). The laptop rebooted and then went straight into the initial reload i.e. asked for country, language, keyboard type, etc etc seems I have lost everything.

Jan 30, 2016I have a Toshiba Satellite E45DW-C4210 (came preinstalled with Windows 10 so no disc obviously) & it came with some bloatware from Toshiba.
How can I do a "fresh" wipe or whatever you want to call it so only Windows 10 is on the laptop, I don't want any Toshiba software/bloatware on the laptop. Basically just barebones, as if I built my this laptop myself and put a copy of Windows 10 on it. That is what I'm looking to do. I just feel starting over again with nothing but Windows will improve the laptop.
I know you can do a system reset where it wipes all your data & re-installs Windows 10 but then the Toshiba's software is just installed all over again. I don't know if this is possible but if it is how can I achieve this?

Jul 27, 2015So I found this issue in my second laptop that running W10TP. I have HP as my first, and ASUS as the second one.
In my ASUS (2nd) I can't booting the laptop without force shut down through hold the power button, because it always stuck at Windows logo. After shutdown and boot again, I succeeded into the lock screen. But it taking too long in the blank screen for almost one minute.
This issue never happened in my HP laptop.
I've tried many methods to find this issue, system scan, virus scan, update installed drivers, driver scan (it failed). And for a couple days it work so well and I'm happy for that, no more stuck at booting.
But the issue come again after many security update for build 10240. The booting is stuck again and BSOD with pfn_list_ corrupted. After restart the laptop I've tried again all the methods that I've did. And then I found so many viruses and malwares from Windows Defender. It's odd for me because it is never happened before, and suddenly of course.
After the viruses were cleaned, the issue is still persist. I want to reset my laptop from settings/update& security/recovery/reset. Is this necessary to do considering W10 will come in 3 days left?

Oct 25, 2015My laptop did an automatic Windows 10 update Friday and restarted but no program will open now and I have to hold the on key to restart it. I get about 15-30 second after it comes up to click on something and it might open but will stop responding shortly after. I have got task manger to open once and only AVG was running but it frozen before I could click on anything.
I started in safe mode and removed the last window updates only to had them reinstall when it restarted.
What at can I do? Is this a virus or malware or did the latest update do this?

Dec 18, 2015Exactly as it says on the title. When I power it on, the GPU fans go full blast, it stays that way for a little while and shuts down automatically. There's no splash screens or anything either so I can't go into safe mode. Sometimes it shuts down almost immediately and then starts up again by itself. Sometimes it seems to start fine, the fans spin at their usual speed, but nothing appears on the monitor and eventually it just shuts down again, it's not properly booting up though because my drawing tablet's lights don't go on when I plug it in.
All this after the latest update. I restarted the thing so it would install the updates, but it got stuck on "Restarting" screen with the dot things spinning. I left it for several hours until I forced the shutdown and it has done this stuff since. I do recall the task manager not starting up from the security screen though.
What I've attempted so far:
Taken the battery and power cable off and held the power button for atleast 2 minutes.
Taken the second graphics card off. And reset the battery again.
Left it overnight like that to see if it would actually do anything (As if).
Started it up without the battery.
Tried to get into safe mode, nope.

I fooled around with HomeGroup settings on the Windows 10 laptop and the system attributes on my wife's laptop and now I can see her computer on my Windows 10 system. But I cannot see the printer on my system from her laptop.
I tried to click on my compueter from her laptop and I get a request for username and password. I don't know what username and password to use. I gather from reading the forum that I should put the name of my laptop in the username but I don't know where to look for the password.

Aug 2, 2015I have attempted to download windows 10 around 4/5 times, the download completes and states that my computer needs to restart upon which it claims it is configuring the windows 10 upgrade. I would assume from this point it would restart into the windows 10 configuration however each time I have tried it it restarts back into windows 8 as if nothing had happened.
My laptop then opens up windows update and says I am able to download windows 10. This is really frustrating as I can't even seem to get into the windows 10 setup.
As you can see I am attempting to download again but there is no trace at all of it attempting to install windows other than this failed update that you can see here.
I am using an HP Pavillion 15-n268a laptop.
Windows Driver Foundation Using 50% Of CPU When Windows Media Player Running
Feb 26, 2016I just noticed in the Task Manager a while ago that "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Host Process" under "Background Processes" was running at about 50% of CPU constantly. I did some research and found out that this only seems to happen when Windows Media Player is running. It seems to happen even when Windows Media Player is not doing anything, when it's not even scanning for new media. When I close Windows Media Player, the "Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework Host Process" CPU usage drops immediately to 0%.
