View 4 RepliesEverytime my friend starts up her laptop, it tells her that the desktop is unavailable. The windows button is also unavailable and the only way to start programs, is by going to Task manger -> File -> Run new task - > Browse - And then find the right location.
I tried to use a SFC /scannow, but I'm not experienced enough to analyze the results.
[URL] - The text was too long to post here, so I've linked it instead.
Some (3, out of maybe 20) of my installed Programs, all working perfectly well, are not listed in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.
View 2 RepliesI have my Windows 10 for around 3 days now, the thing is, in the second day after my computer froze when i was playing counter strike, everything in the task bar but my shortcuts stopped working, they dont open anymore, but when i click it, the cursor blue loading circle shows up but nothing happens.
View 1 RepliesI just did a clean install on W10 and change my bios to UEFI (which it supports.) I'm having this intermittent problem with the Windows "Start" Button in the lower left. It just stops working - left clicking doesn't do anything, although right-clicking does. I just have the basics installed now.
Also, my Windows "Start" key on my keyboard stops working as well. I checked on a keyboard checker and the key itself is fine. I have to log out/back in to get it to work again.
Where is that listing, that W7 had, to easily remove installed programs ? Was called Add/Remove
Want to get rid of the McAfee anti virus that came with the brand new PC I now have.
And, if I plug in an external HD, how do I access it/switch to it, to use ?
Wrote several Python programs using Notepad ++ using Windows 8.1. When I upgraded to Windows 10 these programs will not run. Keep getting the following message: "python program is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".

View 5 RepliesI recently upgraded to windows 10 however after the download some of my programs had disappeared (not all of them). Some of the ones that disappeared included steam, malware bytes and google chrome. Some that stayed included MS office 2013, ccleaner and CPUID. After some research I found a windows.old folder which I assume is a backup of everything that was on W8.1. Something I found very strange was that all of my steam game icons were there however needed redownloading. Is it possible to just copy the whole steam folder from windows.old into the program files folder in windows 10 or will I have to redone load everything again? Could I also do this with any other programs or will they not work and is it recommended to delete windows.old?

View 14 RepliesI just upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1 and I am disappointed to see that some of my programs are now blurry. I had encountered this problem before when I installed Windows 8.1, but somehow I was able to fix it.
I can remove the blurriness from individual programs by manually disabling dpi scaling on each program, but I would like to do this system wide.
When I try to edit the display settings through the control panel, the changes I make result in everything on the screen being too small for me to read. I can't seem to get everything right how it was when I was running Windows 8.1.
Today I've been setting up my new rig and I've been hitting an issue, some programs will not launch. The three main programs I've been having issues with are:
-Paint, won't start no matter what I do
-Geforce Experience, starts the launcher but wont open the main program
-League of Legends, Launcher works but trying to start the game usually wont work.
I've tried various compatibility modes and administrator modes with these and yet nothing, not even an error.
I was having some issues with my previous build (Insider), and hard disk crashing, I went and did a full wipe and a clean install.
Unfortunately, some of my programs refuse to add to startup even when the "Start with Windows" option is checked. I've tried completely removing the programs and re-installing and they simply will not start with Windows like they should.
Aside from manually overriding the situation, (which is a workaround, and not a fix), how to resolve this?
Is it possible to install and run Japanese programs (e.g., Japanese inDesign) on an English version of Windows 10? This was never possible before with Microsoft, but I am wondering if maybe they had caught up with MAC.
View 2 RepliesI recently downloaded Windows 10 Pro and Display Fusion (I prefer it) for my multi-monitor setup and now when I alt-tab I see : Which are many miscellaneous applications that seemingly have no use.
View 2 RepliesWhen ever I walk away from the computer for a little while, when I return all more programs have closed. I'm not sure what minimum amount of time passes before this happens but after an hour it's always displays this behavior.
View 6 RepliesAnother problem I'm finding with 10 is as follows. With 7 it was easy to minimize an open program. It disappeared to Explorer and could be clicked on and restored. Under 10 you can minimize, but only the first one is recognized. If you minimized a second program it supplants the first, the first disappears they don't stack up, the first is lost. Is there a way to stack up the minimized programs so they aren't lost. It takes time to have to go and retrieve the program from Google.
View 3 RepliesWin10 has just updated and I now cannot access my old desktop profile.
In addition, all my regular programs that were pinned to the toolbar have disappeared as well as their listing in 'All Apps' unless they are MS progs. So Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox are not there, I started them from the program folders and clicked to 'pin to toolbar' but when I close them they do not stay pinned.
When I try to click into This PCDesktop an error box appears saying:-
Location is not available
C:UsersAdministratorDesktop is not available
Access is denied
i just updated to Windows 10 and now my firefox, utorrent, filezilla and a few other programs have stopped working because of some port issue.
firefox does nothing.
utorrent says "Listen error".
filezilla says
Status: Connecting to 65.99.237.52:21...Status: Connection attempt failed with "10107".
Error: Could not connect to server
another program i use says "No interent connection or firewall is blocking MM Agent".
i tried to add these programs and port numbers to windows firewall settings but that didnt do anything. then i tried to disablethe windows defender and firewall using "services.msc" but still nothing.
i have also tried by disabling my antivirus(bitdefender)
I am running a dual boot with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 being default and Windows 10 Pro x64 as secondary. I have been running 7 for a couple of years and recently added 10. Maybe I'm not doing something I was supposed to but when I'm in 10 and try to run MS Office 2010, I get an error message that states: "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application"
When I try to run programs from MS Office 2013 a window appears asking me if I want to let this application make changes to my computer. Clicking yes or no does nothing. No error messages or windows appear after that.
Is there something I was supposed to run when I installed Windows 10? Maybe a migration tool or something to that effect?
So I started receiving BSOD's and crashes a week ago on computer wake up and bootup so I decided to update my drivers using IOBIT Driver Booster. However during the installation of the various drivers, I got a BSOD and when I restarted my synaptics trackpad no longer worked. I tried System restore, but each time it said it was unable to perform the operation. Following this I used Window's 10's 'Reset this PC' which basically uninstalled everything while leaving my docs and files untouched.
As I was reinstalling everything, I started getting BSOD's everywhere. (Gotten 4 today I think). Each time was during the installation of a program. And I think each time in the BSOD screen it had something to do with 'bcmpiedhd63.sys'. (I couldn't find anything online about this).
This is a relatively new PC, Dell XPS 15 9550, I7-6700HQ, GTX960M, 16GB Ram, 512 SSD.
So far, I've run Dell's system diagnostic on the hardware and it has found nothing. I've also done Malwarebytes and Hitman Pro scans and it has also been negative.
I recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. At first everything was working fairly smoothly; however, just recently, my startup programs are not starting up when I turn on my computer. Certain programs that are Enabled in my Startup menu are OneDrive, Google Drive, Growl, etc.
I have a Lenovo Ideapad U410.
Windows 10 comes with a bunch of programs I don't need (at all)
- agenda (I use Outlook 2013)
- Mail (I use Outlook)
- Films and TV (not interested)
How could they be completely uninstalled? They might not take up a lot of space, but I don't need them.
I'm experiencing a problem with images attached to an email. Each time I click on an image to view it, I am presented with a menu asking me to select the default program. I check the 'default' box, I select Picasa photo viewer, and I see the photo.
But, I have to do exactly the same thing again, the next time I want to view an image. The default setting is not being saved.
I'm fairly new to Windows 10 and everything is going well except for pinning programs to the start menu. Here are three programs giving me issues with this:
FastStone Image Viewer
Hyper-V Manager
Microsoft Movie Maker
I am able to run the programs if I go find them in Program Files, and I've created shortcuts to them on my desktop and in the task bar. However, they do not show up in the list of All Apps, and they don't turn up in a search from the search bar. I've added them to ...AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms and rebooted, and it did not add them to the Apps.
This is very strange, but for some unknown reason Windows 10 will not let me open some programs (e.g. file explorer, task manager, chrome. But, it will let me open Word, Excel and Edge. When I go to shut it down it just keeps running and running. It is almost like some App has taken over part of the system and won't let go. I have let it run for 4 hours and it never shut down. Obviously I have to disconnect the power cord and do a hard boot to get it back.
