How do make the hidden startup icons visible? At present I have to click on the little arrow to show them, but I would like to have all these icons showing all the time? Can't find a setting to change this .....
View 4 RepliesI've read many posts about hidden icons or icons showing wrong images etc, but my problem seem to be different from others.
When I log on after a reboot, I only see the search icon and the Task View icon in the task bar even though I have several other programs pinned.
If I open a pinned program I see it in the task bar and have the option to unpin the r-click menu, but if I close it, the icon disappears again.
If I open a program that is not pinned, and I r-click and pin the program, the task bar seems to 'refresh' and suddenly I see all my pinned programs in the task bar - and they all work when clicking on them.
How I can make the task bar show the pinned programs without having to pin a new program after every reboot?
I like the monochrome look of the taskbar shortcuts (like the Start button, Cortana, Task View, etc.). I swore that when I first installed Windows 10, the Store app icon and the Xbox app icon were both pinned there in black and white. But now they've adopted those generic color backgrounds (blue for Store and green for Xbox). How do I get them back to monochrome? I'd also like to do this for Edge's icon too.

I've largely figured out how to get adequate colors for pieces of windows and such, but:
I'm on large monitors and the icons in the taskbar are miniscule. And YES, they are NOT set to use SMALL icons... I'm looking for a way to get LARGER icons WITHOUT reducing resolution or doing anything else to the displays...
Aero snap is marginally useful, but NOT when you're using multiple monitors. HOW do I make aero snap limit itself to ONE monitor? I DON'T want it to pull windows that are on monitor two onto monitor 1 when I snap a window. I JUST want it to work with the windows on the monitor I snap a window on.
So, how do I customize these couple basic things so Windows 10 is a bit more productive?
How to make super hidden folder?(and super hidden contents,too).... I hope its unsearchable.
View 5 RepliesWhen I mouse over to the system icons, they usually show the description of the system icons.For example, when I mouse over to the Wi-Fi icon, the connected wifi name would pop-up in a description box. or if I mouse over to the speaker, it would show 'sound' pop-up box.It doesn't show any pop-up box now for every system icons except the notification icon.

View 1 RepliesWhen rebooted this issue does not happen. After some time, if I open the hidden systray menu, most of them will disappear as I mouse over them. I do not know if it is triggered by opening a program, a background program, time, or whatever.
View 4 RepliesA guy in my office just upgraded to windows 10 and it looks completely different from other installations I've seen. The start button isn't the 4 equally-sized rectangles, the top left one is hollow and bigger than the other 3, if that means anything. Anyway, when "use small taskbar buttons" is unchecked in taskbar properties, the first few taskbar buttons are hidden behind the search box on the taskbar.
I found this out by accident because I opened one more window and it barely peeked out from the right side of the search box. What can be doing this? BTW this is not the icons in the notification area, these are the program buttons pinned to the taskbar. Also, his start menu doesn't have tiles, it looks almost exactly like the Windows 7 start menu. To me, it's starting to feel like a skin/theme for windows 7, rather than an actual upgrade, and he got taken in by someone, somehow.
My taskbar is missing and my icons on the desktop are missing as well the background is dark ....

View 3 RepliesI recently did a clean install on Windows 10. I've updated my drivers, downloaded some games, even made some system restore points. I installed Steam & it killed my internet, making connections to the Internet, Dropbox, sporadic though my RPD client seemed unphased..I think it has to do with Steams UDP request overwhelming my Comcast modem.
Anyways, so I did a system restore prior to installing steam and fixed the problems, I have great internet again. The problem I am now having is that I check my downloads folder on Windows 10 and my previous downloads are not there, so I redownload them. Now I have all these new downloads showing up as programinstaller.exe (1), as if there's already a file with the exact same name in that folder. Sure enough I was going to reinstall steam, the installer was not visible, but doing a folder search it shows up.
how I can see all of the files in my folders, it's going to drive me bonkers having files that I can't see. I have hidden files checked to be shown.
I can't believe I can't find this solution online. I've seen like 8 tutorials and none of them have worked. I have my Surface Pro 2 and 4, and basically, I want to make it more touch friendly. For the last 2 years I have been going into a folder and making it "large" or "medium" icons; but I did it for the same folders every time. Now, I just got my Surface Pro 4 and I just want ALL the folders to be like that by default and change the ones I don't want when I need it.
How can I do it!? Most places on the net say "right click folder, customize, optimize for pictures" and apply to all subfolders, but it doesn't work on my desktop, my surface pro 2 nor my surface pro 4. So... how can I achieve this?
The shortcut icons on my Windows 10 desktop are enormous! How can I make them a normal size?
View 2 RepliesAll of the grey variants in 'Colors' make the Taskbar really dark/black, but ever since Windows 7 I've had a light grey taskbar so it feels like I've lost a very old and trusted friend.
I've tried Winaero Tweaker but I've only managed to get it to change my explorer accent colour - the taskbar stays stubbornly black.
I'm loving Win10 so far! Real improvement on Win7 (and most certainly on Win8, which I hated so much I went back!)
One thing I have noticed, that I can't seem to change... is how you set it so that icons in the start bar, go full sized once you open them? I liked that feature in Win7, as it was quicker to view what was open (without having to "read" the icons to work out what was what)
(I've attached a pic of what I mean)
1. Make TitleBars, StartMenu, TaskBar and so on, keep the same color in example the default black.
2. Make Tiles keep a color in example blue. Like in Windows 8.1.
That is, I want to keep ALL THE DAFAULT COLORS but also make title bar black.
When opening it i don't want to see Frequent folders and files, how can i change it so i can see only the drives?
View 4 RepliesCurrently, my OneDrive icon is sitting in the 'hidden icons' section. I have seen pictures of the icon sitting on the taskbar next to Edge, the store, and all the other taskbar icons... how do you get that icon on the taskbar? I have tried all the normal ways I can think of (click and drag onto taskbar, going into taskbar settings, etc) but I can't get it to be removed from the hidden icons area.
View 2 RepliesHP Envy desktop came with Windows 10 Home already loaded. Set it up with my program shorcut icons in the taskbar. Everything working just fine for days, and then all of a sudden (well maybe not as I had just installed updates from MS) the taskbar no longer shows those icons and the Windows Start/Search/taskview icons on the left and the HP Support/Notification icons on the right show but all are inactive.
View 7 RepliesI have a question, under "Start Menu -> Settings -> Notifications & actions -> Select icons which appear on the taskbar, how does one do maintenance on the list so it only shows items that are currently installed as it seems uninstalled items are still showing up on the list." However the answer has been tried but did not solve it for me. I still have uninstalled app icons showing up. I have deleted "iconstreams", there is no "pasticonstreams" to delete, I have ran registry cleaner, disk clean up, registry search for the apps, c: drive search for left overs etc etc etc to no avail. The icons or app shortcuts must be hiding

View 5 RepliesI'm finding that my clean install of W10/64 gets corrupted "Store" and "Edge" taskbar icons if it's been running for any length of time or if I've been gaming. I haven't tried to troubleshoot or isolate the cause. I've only taken note of the problem. Shrug.
A reboot cleans them up.
Edge has white behind the "e". Store is just a white square. My other taskbar icons are good. See the pic.
I have about 15 shortcut icons on my taskbar. They are all aligned to the left, leaving a big empty space on the right. Is there any way to to have the icons aligned more to the right...sort have them in the center of the taskbar?
View 2 RepliesI have recently done an update. Now, my computer turns on fine. However the only taskbar icons I have from the extreme left is the windows 'start' image, then the cortana circle then the taskview rectangle.
From the extreme right I have the usual show desktop sliver, then a blank gap of around an inch where wifi / volume / clock should be then a rectangular speech bubble 'No new notifications' then the up arrow - which only shows a single grey square 'ELAN pointing device'.
That's it. There were several quick icons there prior. Edge, MFF, folders, ASUS update, Chrome etc. All gone.
Also, I can't actually access anything from the start window icon. Clicking it does nothing. When I hover / click it it turns red, but that's it.
All my usual desktop icons are there. I can use them but can't minimise anything. If I do minimise anything it vanishes. I can open it again via the task manager as they are still running but that's it.
The ONLY way to shut down my computer is to go to the ctrl + alt + del to the red screen and use the icons in the bottom right hand corner. I can sometimes right click on the start windows icon and it will pop up a black menu and one of the options is power / sleep / shutdown etc.
