How To Make Start Screen Default When First Logging In
Jul 26, 2015
When I log in, I want to go directly to the start screen rather than the desktop and having to click the windows icon/button.I have tried right clicking on the taskbar->properties->Navigation Tab and the only option there is the option to replace command prompt with windows powershell.
I have tried setting the group policy User Configuration->Administrative Template->Start Menu and Taskbar->"Go to the desktop instead of start when signing in" to both disabled and not configured with no effect.how to get the other options to show up in the Navigation Tab of taskbar properties or how to set the start screen as the default when signing in?I am on Windows 10 Pro build 10240, upgraded from 8.1 Pro and am logged in with an administrator account.
I am irritated by the "Windows 8" apps screen, set as my default. It shows all the tiles I need and seems to work well enough, but if (for example) I go into emails and then want to come out, I'm taken back to the start menu and must click on "Windows 8" again to open the apps screen.
Is there any way I can change settings so I'm returned immediately to the apps screen? I know it's just a couple more clicks but it seems so pointless to be slowed down every time in that way.
I know there are not to many people who like the touch side of things, but I have just installed 10 on a touch deviceStar Screen is the default, looks exactly the same as 8.Apps all launch maximized on the desktop (not the new full screen option).
I just attempted to install Windows 10 on my new PC. During the upgrade process, the screen went blank @ 75% and didn't come back. There was active HDD activity, so I waited until it stopped before restarting the PC.Upon restarting the PC, everything went fine and I got the "Hi" messages and so on. After that, the screen went black again and didn't come back.
After waiting, I forced-shutdown the PC and turned it back on. Windows logo appeared and everything seemed fine. Login screen appeared and I could login. After that, the cursor froze and the screen immediately turned black - and it stays that way. What's wrong?
I'm currently using a secondary PC and may have to go back to Windows 7, but I can't seem to interact quick enough to get to the option that allows you to revert. It freezes and goes black before I can.I tried tapping F8 on boot but nothing happens, it goes straight to Windows logo.
I cannot give a lot of details about the PC because it is not mine and the user does not want to give a lot out (not sure why). However, it has Windows 10 64-bit and is very powerful (i7, 16 GB ram, 2TB hdd). Whenever I go to switch users or log off, the screen goes black. There is no cursor and the keyboard buttons stop working (i.e. light for Num Lock doesn't light up). The only way to get back onto the computer is to force shutdown by holding the power button. There are no problems with the initial boot or login, only when you go to "switch users" or "log off". The computer resources are not being taxed and the heat is in control. I do not receive any BSOD, only a black screen with no response.
I have tried: - Removing an update from Windows 10 that caused boot loops - Rolling back video driver - Installing NVIDIA driver updated 10.7.2015 - Ran sfc /scannow (found errors but couldn't fix it) - Ran DIMS after and it found nothing to remove - Ran dskchk and did not have any problems - Searched over five hours for a solution - Changed power settings to never sleep for: Display, PC, HDD - Disabled USB service that was causing a different issue - No egregious problems in Event Viewer - I checked registry for proper paths before and after sleep mode/shut down/boot and that was also fine (explorer.exe I believe)
My friend says that, in no way, will he reload Windows 10 because it was just recently loaded and was working originally.
I had no problems with either upgrade on my laptop to Win10 Home or desktop PC to Win10 Pro, It's only after a recent update on my PC with Pro that I can't get past the password screen when logging into Yahoo mail. Filling in my user name/email account works fine but the next screen for my password won't work. I click the "continue" button but nothing happens. This is the only site so far where this happened.
I was trying to install WMP on my PC; I disovered that it was already installed, even though there was no icon on the desktop, start menu or application bar.
Anyway, I'm now trying to set it as the default application for opening music CDs. The problem is that it is not listed in the default programs, and I cannot seem to get it included on the list. I know how to associate programs with different file types, but that's not really what I want; I'd like WMP to launch automatically when I insert a CD.
So, I have just bought a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 14) running Win10. After Win7 everything is a bit of a shock. The current problem I have encountered (there are many more) is that I don't seem to be able to force Win 10 to make Photoscape the default app for managing images. I can open individual photos with the program but only by using the 'open with' option.
Trying to use 'Settings', it tells me Photoscape is there, however, it is listed as 'unavailable'. Furthermore, when attempting to make the change Win 10 lists only its own photo app or 'Go to the store'.
I upgraded to Windows 10. The entire screen shows up in about 75% of my monitor with the rest black. It's not that the fonts are too small, it's just that it makes my monitor look a lot smaller and I cannot seem to get it to fill up the entire monitor like Windows 8.
I can see where one can choose which email client to use as the default in the system settings, but Thunderbird is not listed in the available options.
I've tried all the generic ways, using powershell, using Tweaking WIndows Repair Etc.I don't want to keep restoring windows 10 everytime it happens. I remember I fixed this once by using regedit.
I have installed a clean windows 10 installation, and i keep having these different BSOD every time my computer is making a cold start = i shut the pc down in the evening and in the morning BSOD starts the day.. the computer restarts, and it works all day long, resetting and turn off and quick turn on again no BSOD.
I have an HP Pavilion with Windows 10. I'm pretty basic with computers, and I don't know how to make a home screen icon for a website. I go to a website that I like, usually on Chrome, and now I want it to be an icon so I can just click on it tomorrow.
My computer used to go to lock screen after a while, but has stopped recently. I can't find out where the setting is that adjusts this. When I poke around in lock screen settings (personalization > lock screen> screen timeout settings) I can indeed make the screen turn off after a period of time, but it doesn't go to the lock screen. If I wake up the computer it just goes back to the desktop. What am I missing?
I'm loving Win10 so far! Real improvement on Win7 (and most certainly on Win8, which I hated so much I went back!)
One thing I have noticed, that I can't seem to change... is how you set it so that icons in the start bar, go full sized once you open them? I liked that feature in Win7, as it was quicker to view what was open (without having to "read" the icons to work out what was what)
Here is the problem I have experienced for the on-screen keyboard (with or without tablet mode),
- When the on-screen keyboard comes up, the windows will not automatically resize to make way. The Keyboard will end up covering the window. (In Windows 8.1, all windows will resize.) (In Windows 10, only Store App and Microsoft Edge knows how to resize.)
I just updated my pc to windows 10.when i am playing game like CS:GO and GTAV from steam, every time i quitting the game or minimizing it. my whole PC crashing, the screen goes black and the fans starting to make weird sounds. and then after 10 secs its restarting and coming back to the normal windows (no safe mod etc).my specs are i7 4790 8GB ram gtx 780.
Just a question about the default start menu/tiles. Originally I didn't like the look of the tiles so I removed them however now I'm thinking I may actually like them. So is there a way I can get the default start menu/tiles back?
