View 9 RepliesI changed the REGEDIT for InitialKeyboardIndicators to a value of 2 and it worked for about a week, but now, even though the value is still 2, the num lock is off after the computer starts up.
This is a brand new Toshiba computer: Toshiba Satellite C55-C5241 15.6 Inch Laptop (Intel Core i5, 8 GB, 1TB HDD, Black)
I would like to keep number lock to stay on when I startup my computer up on windows 10
View 3 RepliesWhat I need to do in Windows 10 to get my Numbers Lock to stay on all the time? Each time I start the system I have to remember to press the Numbers Lock button. On my Windows 7 it stayed on all the time unless I purposely turned it off.
It's no real big deal to push a button, but it's just hard to type in a password or user name and discover it didn't work simply because this darn button was turned off by the system.
I did do a "regedit" and changed the numbers in the box to #2 and restarted the system. When the system restarted the Numbers Lock light was on and I figured I must have fixed it. However when I booted up today it was off again.
I am running Outlook 2016 under Win 10. Under all previous versions of Outlook I have be enable to increase the time a new email alert stays on the screen by editing the registry like this.
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice16.0CommonDesktopAlerts
DWORD: TimeOn
I have set the value of that DWORD to 360000 in an attempt get the alert to stay on an hour. The alerts stay on only about 3 or 4 seconds. How can I make the alerts stay on longer?
My computer used to go to lock screen after a while, but has stopped recently. I can't find out where the setting is that adjusts this. When I poke around in lock screen settings (personalization > lock screen> screen timeout settings) I can indeed make the screen turn off after a period of time, but it doesn't go to the lock screen. If I wake up the computer it just goes back to the desktop. What am I missing?
View 1 RepliesSo I want to lock down a user account in a specific time or anytime that he'll not able to access the PC until morning, cuz my cousin been using my PC until midnight like there's no end and he'll just use it until 1am or 2am then sleep after. I have Windows 10 btw
View 1 RepliesI recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I am having some issues.
First one is: When I click jpg, gif, or any image files that uses the photo viewer as a default viewer, photo viewer pops up twice, one with the file I selected and one with the collection screen. It only does this on the first view of a image file after reboot. Once it does this, it doesn't do it until I reboot.
Second one is: I use a PIN as my login password. The number lock on the log in screen doesn't work. I almost always have to press NUM Lock button in order to use the number key pad. I checked the BIOS setting and Num Lock is on.
I like to position all my desktop icons in a custom order, but since I took my PC into the Geeks to remove a suspected virus, my desktop icons keep returning to default positions upon restart or refresh. I've experimented with unchecking grid and align options, and even followed instructions found online that instructed me how to modify the registry, yet no success.
View 6 RepliesI recently updated to Win10 from Win7, and like many others, couldn't get my PC to stay asleep. Found this solution at "gizmo's freeware" (How to Fix a Computer that Keeps Waking Up | Gizmo's Freeware). Turned out to be a network card that was the culprit.
View 1 RepliesI have a laptop and a PC both with Win10.
On my laptop, when I receive notifications, I can later on see them in the list.
On my PC, they seem to be cleared. I can never see them.
I am an experienced Windows user and do not understand why I can't figure out how to make them they where they belong.
I upgraded Win 8.1 Pro to Win 10 Pro and I find that when I pin folders to the Quick Access, that they disappear from there the next time I start my laptop.
View 9 RepliesI've got a Taskbar Icons, like; when I move my mouse to any Icon, the highlight thing that when I move it to an icon stays and never go, and I have to reboot/restart my PC if I have to fix it. It's really annoying me, and it's not the first time.
View 1 RepliesI have a custom built PC. Ever since then I haven't been able to go into sleep mode. As soon as I click Sleep the system powers down for few seconds then powers straight back on to show me login screen.
What I've tried so far is doing a reset with Windows 10 Pro to wipe everything but keeps files on SSD which is my primary. I disconnected my HDD which is for gaming and music so that it wont get touched. As I'm typing this the issue hasn't been fixed. The only thing that I did was some updates for OS, and that's it! I'm completely puzzled by what is happening.
Since I upgraded to 10 I have had constant issues. Mainly when I put the machine to sleep it wakes itself up automatically.
I have banned all deviced from allowing it to wake, removed it from any workgroups and a million other fixes I have seen online. Yet I can't get it to stay asleep.
After viewing logs this file: NvStreamKms.sys is set to "demand start" and the next entry is the computer waking.
On wife's laptop, Win 10 Home, Facebook App worked for her until today. Now the app opens for 5sec then closes. She is still on 10240build. Uninstall/reinstall no fix. Went to store tried updates there no updates. Rebooted computer after reinstall no fix. New laptop less than a month old so no build upgrade available.
View 9 RepliesWhen I set the screen saver to what I want, it works just fine as long as I leave the computer running. However, if I shut down the computer and bring it back at some later time, the screen saver will not work.
View 3 RepliesWhen I click on the Power app and choose Sleep, my computer always wakes up halfway through the night. I tried customizing the power settings but no luck.
View 1 RepliesFb opens then auto closes. Tried restarting pc and tried re-installing fb.
View 1 RepliesOn my son's laptop, he has 2 playback devices, HD audio and speakers. If set to HD audio, no sound. If set to speakers, perfect. Problem is it won't stay set to speakers. Drivers are up to date. Its a Lenovo Carbon laptop (don't have exact model with me now). PC primarily used for gaming, mostly Steam.
View 3 RepliesHow to turn system restore on or off. I do Macrium backups frequently and absolutely do not need the system restore turned on. I turn it off and occasionally check back only to find it on again. Not sure what is activating it. I am going to start checking each time I boot the computer up in the mornings to see if it turns on every new boot. Just rebooted my computer and system protection isn't turned on. Wonder if updates or something is making default on or something.
View 7 RepliesSo I upgraded to Win 10 and so far I like it, but a problem which I find annoying:
Whenever I open file explorer the window tends to move from where I placed it. What I mean is I place the window directly in the center, as I like it. When I open it again, it will be displayed at the very top of the screen. When I close it and open it again it will be displayed at the bottom of the screen on the left. The window seems to change places every time it is opened.
Nothing major, but I am OCD about keeping windows centered and organized haha so is there a way to keep the window in one spot? Is this a bug or is this supposed to happen?
I've been stuck here for about 30 minutes. I did set up the Win 10 preview on another laptop (this one) and I don't remember it taking so long. In fact I'm using that and Explorer to type this. What should I do next, try to reboot and use the Win ten preview USB to "Repair" the OS before trying to restart it - or just restart it, or just start over?
View 3 RepliesSince I installed my new video card (Asus Radeon R7 240), all pages appear scaled up to 115%. There are some settings to change somewhere, because I didn't found them. Actually on firs boot, pages were even bigger, but now are stuck at 115%.
Even when I scale them down manually and after that I click on scroll wheel to open in a new tab, the page is scaling up, back to 115%
So when I decided to build this pc, i wanted it to have Win7. When i booted it up, i kept getting the message asking if i wanted to upgrade to Win10. so i thought "hey, i paid 50 dollars for win7, so why don't i upgrade to win10 for free instead of paying 100 dollars," so i did. and all of my downloads and files, everything, saved so i didn't have to download everything again. but turns out i don't like win10. so if i go back to win7, will everything stay on my hard drive?
View 1 RepliesI have a problem with my taskbar. I have 2 monitors and I like to keep the taskbar on the secondary display, vertically at the right hand side of the screen. My other half has a separate account on our PC and she has the taskbar the same way.
When she logs in to her account while I'm still logged in and then when I switch back to my profile, the taskbar is being moved from display 2 back to display 1 - however it stays vertically on the right hand side. I.e. Windows can't seem to remember which display the taskbar is on, but it can remember the location of the taskbar.
