View 1 RepliesI am using Ubuntu Linux, and would like to use Windows 10 on a virtual machine using Virtualbox. My computer originally had Windows 8.1, which I upgraded to 10. I then installed Ubuntu Linux, so I currently have a dual boot setup. I would like to use Windows 10 on a virtual machine in Ubuntu. Is there any way to obtain the ISO without downloading it? I tried following the instructions on this site:
How to turn your Windows 10 upgrade files into an ISO disk image | ZDNet
In order to use my VPN I've had to change my DNS address to a specific address. Problem is, whenever I reboot my computer, it reverts the DNS to the 'obtain automatically' option, and completely clears out my specified DNS address.
View 1 RepliesI'm using static IP for Network #1 which is 192.168.1.110
But when I try joining another network let's say network #2 with a router address like 192.168.43.1 i have to change network settings and use another static IP 192.168.43.10
Can't i just ask windows to use static IP 192.168.1.110 when i try to connect to network #1 and 192.168.43.10 when I connect to network #2 without having to manually configure it every time ?
I really have to use static IPs when connecting to those two particular networks...
Where you can set a static IP address in win 10?
View 4 RepliesSo, today I we're gonna go on skype on a friend, instantly when calling he complained that it sounded like someone shoved up a drill inside his ear.
I went on steam sound test and all I heard was : Static/buzzing noise.I tried reinstalling realtek HD audio drivers which didn't work.Unplugging and plugging in the mic didn't work either.Changing mic boost settings didn't work either...
The mic is not a USB mic, it is plugged in to the front of the pc using the mic and headset ports. The sound however is working fine.Mic works perfect in my mac when using some kind of turn 2 cables into 1 thing. The mic does pick up sounds but it seems to be losing pretty much 99% of it's quality on it's way into the speakers/headset.
When I was running Windows 8.1 I had moved my Public folders from C drive to D Drive (My C drive is an SSD and want to keep it for OS not Data) - After upgrading to Windows 10, Public folders have reverted back to C drive. I can see an option to move them if I right click the folder in File Manager, but event though the path text box is enabled (i.e. I can select the text) I cannot edit it. I have tried running file manager in administrator mode but it makes no difference
View 1 RepliesMy home screen is almost static, all of the tiles is static and not live. Only people tile has a little animation and the tile from calendar show some information. All other tiles show the "brand" and work as simple icon.
If I choose someone and turn off the live option and switch back doesn't happen.

When I play videos on Youtube or Vimeo or music on SoundCloud (which is as much as I tested), I hear a static sound. It happens the most often for YouTube, maybe 10 seconds, and less often for Vimeo and SoundCloud. This impacts headphones (Beats) and speakers.
How can I fix this static sound? I'm using, for all my audio stuff, IDT Audio.
New computer built, using Windows 10. I'm getting static on every audio device/browser/software. I am also 95% sure I updated all drivers. But Microsoft denies me a right to have service due to custom build, and Kingston just blames Windows, as does Gigabyte.
Motherboard: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0)
OS: Windows 10 build 1151
Headset: Hyper X Cloud 2 with the latest Firmware update.
And a shitty Logitech that has the same problem.
Tried the audio jack on the mobo, case's front USB headers as well. Everything is static.
When I start a HD movie, or just have windows or Kodi on, I get this static noise, and when I play a video it gets even louder. It sounds like the volume is turned up really high. When there's sound from the movie you really can't hear it, but when it's a quiet part or only talking, it's audible.
However, since I watch shows and movies mostly with headphones, it's really an issue, it is very audible and disturbing. I've noticed that when I move my cursor in Windows I get a faint "extra" static sound.
I use a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo. I've tried disabling WiFi, Bluetooth, changing drivers, change where I connect the power cord in the wall.
This is not an issue with my xbox, or my old non-windows, non-pc media player. There was a very faint static on the old media player, but that can be attributed to many a thing, but wasn't a problem.
System:
Fanless htpc.
120W psu.(it's located at the opposite end of where my hdmi is connected, and uses an external block as a transformator.)

First I wanted to boot into Safe mode, but couldn't do that because the keyboard was not working in BIOS. To solve that I just removed the battery and left it out for around 10/15 minutes so that any residual power would be dissipated.
Once I managed to get into Safe mode I made some changes to my user account and added myself to the Aminstrators group. Then rebooted back into normal mode , where I could make changes and click on the YES button.
Finally onto the network problem of being stuck on a Public network. Now that I could open the properties box of the ethernet adapter , I saw that the 'Obtain the following IP address option was selected, but there was no IP address there. Once I changed that to 'Select automatically' solved the Public network problem as it was change back to Private Network automatically.
I've had my Inspiron N4110 laptop for a while now and it seems it might finally be kicking the bucket. It works fine for a while and then it just starts flashing rainbow colors on the external screen I have it hooked into and static horizontal lines on the main display. This happens maybe once or twice every week. The fan kicks into high gear and I can't do anything, so I have to restart it. After the restart, it is usually extremely slow and cannot operate for the most part. In its most recent episode, it has worked pretty good. Before its most recent episode, I was able to figure out a few things. (its running windows 10 btw)
Using CrystalDiskInfo, I was able to figure out that the hard drive is okay
I used Auslogics Disk Defrag Professional to see if it was fragmented, but its only at 2%
I used the command prompt and ran sfc /scannow to determine that there are no system file errors
I used Auslogics BoostSpeed 8 to do a registry cleaning, and its fine.
Right before its latest episode, I removed a USB without doing the safe extract thing, but I doubt hitting that would have worked. This was happening before I upgraded to windows 10, but it has been happening more frequently lately. I'm running a virus scan with Malwarebytes and will post the results soon. I have not been able to determine a cause for this. I took a video of the problem ....
Is there a way to run Win10 without any user account, a completely open computer? There seems to be no way to complete an install of windows without a phone number or e-mail account. Isn't there a way to run a computer with Win10 that doesn't require any user, a "public" computer.
View 9 RepliesIn Windows 7 every user inherited content of "Public" user folders such as Images/Music/Video.Now I don't see "Public" content in my user folders anymore. What could be done to unlock this functionality?

View 2 RepliesI got mine with everything installed. So if I uninstall and reinstall Realtek, I might mess this up more. I don't even know what version I have and I can't understand the terms used in the instructions.
Should I just wait for a system update form Microsoft. Or do I really have to uninstall my audio software?
A couple of weeks ago my PC started having issues. It started by the screens (2) flashing static when I would wake it up from sleep. I would have to reboot to fix it. Then when I would reach the login screen and enter my password I would be greeted by a black screen with just a mouse cursor. I though it had froze, but it turns out if I wait 15-20 minutes the desktop would eventually load. I tried restoring from a previous point but it didn't work and caused more issues. Suddenly none of my apps nor the store worked.
I tried an image restore and it seems to have fixed my app issue, but I'm still having screen issues and a long boot time. If that wasn't frustrating enough, I tried to install the latest Nvidia drivers today and as soon as I begin installing I get the blue screen, it has to restart and I get this message: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. I upgraded to Windows 10 when it was first released and have had no issues up to this point. I'm wondering if this issue wasn't all caused when I installed the last set of Nvidia drivers they released on 8/31/15.
I've tried a sfc scannow and it came up with nothing.
My Build: Dell Inspiron 570, Windows 10, AMD Phenom II X2 560 (black edition) CPU, Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 TI GPU, 8BG RAM
When installing programs most place their shortscuts in the Public folder instead of placing them in the user folder. What am i doing wrong? I never had this problem with Windows 8.
View 2 RepliesI have extensively viewed the net for a solution, and have tried (as far as I know) every suggestion to make the change without success.
View 8 RepliesHow to change Network Location from public to private in Windows 10?
Have tried regedit, powershell etc.
In Windows 7/8 there was a setting, a small checkbox "Treat all future networks as public and don't ask me again".
You can see it in this picture - [URL] .....
In my version of Windows 10, I don't appear to have that option. I could try deleting this registry key ...
HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetControlNetworkNetworkLocationWizard
Delete the key: HideWizard
Perhaps there's a simpler way than export, delete key, if wrong result import saved registry file. Have I missed a setting somewhere to set the network location?
Is there a way I can change all connected networks to private instead of public with a click-able script? The problem was that a User was connected to an open network using a VPN which then also connected showing Public. With both as Public, they could not map to a network resource. I fixed it using the "go to home-groups and change network settings, etc." But surely there is a way it could be handled with a simple script to edit same? End result was the VPN showed private while the open WiFi he connected to still showed public but he could access the server now.
View 1 RepliesTrying to set up a network for the first time. My intention was to share public folders but when I right click on my user folders (e.g. PCUsersDaveDocuments they are shown as "Shared" and clicking on "Stop sharing" doesn't seem to do anything. Am I missing something.
View 3 RepliesOkay, this is a really weird one. For the last 2 months I've been experiencing this reoccurring issue on my new Dell XPS 13 laptop where 1-2 times a day, the audio will suddenly get extremely staticy. It generally will last at least 1 minute but sometimes significantly longer, and will affect all audio, including Windows alert sounds and even the "Playback device" test sound. This affects both the internal laptop speakers and any AUX device. I have not experienced the issue when audio is played through HDMI/DP, but I haven't been able to test it enough to know for certain.
However, there is one exception that I have only discovered today: the audio issue does NOT affect any files played through Win10's new default player, Groove. I have played exactly the same audio file on both VLC and Groove "even concurrently" to confirm.
I've posted a link below to an MP3 recording of it: [URL]
I've spoken to Dell and we have tried countless fixes that I've tried to list below, but the problem persists:
Fresh reinstall of Windows
Replaced motherboard (twice?)
Uninstalled Realtek audio drivers
Updated BIOS
Tried changing all settings in the Realtek HD Audio Manager
Probably 4-5 other issues
I have Realtek Audio HD driver for sound installed on windows 10. For about a week, my laptop ran with no problems. However, last night there was no sound output into my headphones. I unplugged my headphones, plugged them in again. Still no sound.
I tried my headphones on different computers and phones and sound worked normally. I then tried a different pair of headphones on my laptop and no sound was coming out. The speaker is still functioning normally.
I have since restarted my laptop multiple times, and each time I restart a message saying that "You have changed your settings in BIOS setup. Would you like to restart your computer to apply these changes?"pops up.
Sometimes, my headphones somehow come to life, and sound is able to be played. However, when this occurs there is a lot of background static noise, although the sound quality itself is very good.
