View 1 RepliesI have a new dell Inspiron with Windows 10 and office suite.
I plugged in a flash drive with spreadsheets on it.
When I try to open them, Windows 10 TRIES to open them with Outlook 2016, and of course they won't open.
WHICH APP is necessary to get these excel spreadsheets to open, and how do I get windows to accept it so I can use them?
I upgraded to Windows 10 last night and have had nothing but problems. The biggest one is the fact that I cannot open the start menu, I had worked around it by right clicking it and then selecting what I needed from there. However now that doesn't even work.
View 4 RepliesMy desktop icons will not open full size. Each time I open one I have to maximize it to full size.
This has only happened recently, I presume since the last auto update.
How do I reset to open full size automatically.
I don't know if it is a pure coincidence, but yesterday I tried to upload some photos from my Smartphone and this is what's happened! It is very frustrating and I have googled the problem umpteen times with various wording and tried a few of the suggestions (Windows main support page included) but the probem persists. I'm ready to either go down the very tedious route of a clean install of W7 (which I would loathe to do) or chucking my computer out the window which would be even worse!

View 1 RepliesI am having some problems with Windows10 Pro. I have downloaed it from a website and upgraded from windows 7 ultimate.
PC is lagging. When I open a Images Folder/Drive It become very slow. It takes too much to open a file or folder.
And, Im unable to copy anything. It is showing obytes/s or sometimes only some bites like 27, 333, something.
The thing is that after updating on windows 10 it is unable to open my desktop by minimizing the Start menu, only via windows explorer. Start menu opens always in full-screen mode so I can't resize it (yes, full-screen mode is unchecked in the relevant menu).
View 2 RepliesSince the last win 10 update, my desktop Folder icons do not work right. When I left click I get this
when I right click I get this
The only way I can open a folder (such as Downloads) is to right click, then select open.
I have tried creating new shortcuts and they do not work. Regular program shortcuts work fine. If I create a new short cut to a file, (ie a photo), I have to right click and select OPEN to view the file, then when I create a shortcut, it does not work unless I right click and select open.
I restored system to earlier date and all is well. When restarting computer I get force fed update. Selecting NEW from context menu was not there. I fixed that. Why come I get cmd when I try to open a folder?
Without any third party software: Can I with Windows 10 set new windows to open on the monitor (with dual monitor setup) from which it was launched?
By default Windows opens a new window on the monitor on which it was used last. So if I close file explorer on monitor 1, the launch it from monitor 2's start menu, it will still open on monitor 1 because that is where it was last active, even though I launched it from monitor 2.
Every time my computer reboots, some or all of the dialog boxes for my external drives open on the desktop. I am just wondering if this is an indication of something more serious going on or should I just forget it?
View 3 RepliesExcuse me if this has been asked before, I have a weird issue in This Computer. When I double-click a hard drive or other device, it tries to launch some unknown deleted application and fails with an error message (see below). If I right-click on the drive, I see that "cmd" is default instead of Open and I can proceed if I select Open. This issue occurs only in This Computer. Clicking any other folder on the desktop or elsewhere opens as expected. Could it be a malware? I'm now scanning with Malwarebytes Antimalware just in case.

View 1 RepliesWhy does W10 File Explorer list a USB 3.0 flash drive on the Desktop? No other USB device or standard drive is there.
Win 7 didn't include the stick on the Desktop. Don't recall seeing it there in 8/8.1 either.
This flash drive appeared in those systems only under the usual MY COMPUTER (This PC) listings.
I have an Acer laptop, bought in November, 2014 and about 6 months ago, I tried using the CD drive for the first time.It opened but it didn't read the disc. Now, I tried opening it and the button won't work and choosing Eject says: 'An error occured ejecting :G ' I tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting, trying to open by button while starting the laptop, etc. Nothing worked! What can I do? I really want to play GTA V
View 9 RepliesI upgraded my windows 7 computer to windows 10. I have an external hard drive that I am unable to open. When I connect it to the computer now, a reformatting window pops up asking to do this. Obviously, I don't want to delete the data on there as I used this drive as my backup. How can I go about opening this drive?
I checked on someone's else computer running windows 7 and my data is there, but my friend upgraded his computer to windows 10 and now I can't transfer data that way.
The hard drive is a WD Scorpio, model WD25000BEVS. Don't know if that is useful. I am wondering if part of the issue is that I have this harddrive is from a previous laptop that ran windows vista. That computer failed bcs it was a subpar HP product. I literally baked the motherboard several times for it to work. I finally gave up and got a new computer but kept the drive. I should have reformated it but I only deleted everything but the user folder.
I am wondering if part of the issue is ownership of the drive. I know that when I first used this drive I had it take ownership of the hard drive. I know this can be done in window 10, but I can't seem to ever open properties of the harddrive while its plugged in.
So I've recently bought an SSD Drive soley for the purpose of running Windows. The original Hard Drive was a 2TB Samsung drive that I have since formatted and using for Storage only. Installed Windows 10 on the SSD and the machine is working great, boots up in aound 10 seconds from turning the machine on.
Now heres my issue. For some reason if i turn my PC on and do nothing it will show the message no operating system found press ctrl, alt + del to restart. This is because its still looking to my original 2TB Drive to boot up. So basically I have to tap F something everytime i turn my machine on and select the SSD from the list.
Here is where things get weird. I have gone into the bios and have the choice of what the machine boots up with, so again i can select my SSD. The problem is the section where I can set the boot order default is only showing my 2TB Hard drive and the Blu-Ray drive, the SSD doesnt appear in that list. So it appears in one time boot options but not in the boot priority list so I cant set it as the default Drive.
I'm trying to copy a ripped movie file (iso) from my G drive to desktop. The file is 45GB. It gets to 99% then a message comes up saying the process can't complete because the System has the file open. I have nothing running and can't find anything where the System is accessing/linking to this file.
I thought it might be a permissions issue, so I wanted to download the Reg edit to add a "take ownership" command but the TenFourms link is not working. Take Ownership - Add to Context Menu in Windows 10 <<<< won't open web page.
I ran sfc /scannow and there are some errors reported that could not be fixed. There is a CBS.log file but I have not looked at it yet.
I also ran the DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (I forget the full command line now) and it came back saying it could not find the files "online".
I'm about to build my first desktop, and I have a laptop with Windows 10 (upgraded from 7 which it came with). I don't plan on using the laptop anymore, so is it possible to install the laptop's hard drive into the desktop then move the Windows install to an SSD? If not, should I just buy a Win10 key or would it be possible to contact Microsoft about transferring the OS over?
View 1 RepliesQuite often (60% of the time) clicking on Windows Explorer results in no action whether from the tool bar or from the Windows screen for a very long period of time. There is nothing showing to determine if there is a background program causing Explorer to wait. When it eventually opens, more than one screen comes up because the impatient among us have clicked more than once (personal problem). I often start by going to Explorer for a file I was working on so this is a real pain.
View 2 RepliesRunning Windows 10 on a Dell Venue 8 pro Tablet. Several months ago, and just yesterday I lost my desktop. Turned on the Tablet went to the desktop picture after signing in and ... nothing. No live panels, no desktop icons, the action center would not appear. Just the desktop picture. If I tapped on the picture, the icons would appear for a split second. Anything pinned to the bar along the bottom would work. I was able to get to system restore and restore to a couple of days ago. That worked. What happened. Don't really know how to fix other than system restore.
