May 22, 2015So I have window 10 technical preview, I decided to try and refresh whilst saving the data because it was running slowly, now it doesn't work, the start screen won't open, and the apps won't even run. I've updated it seems and nothing seems to work, also I created a backup on my USB stick but the option to rollback to 8.1 doesn't appear in the setting menu anymore. The store doesn't open either, and my region/language are set to US.

Jul 10, 2015Where your start screen/menu just crashes or vanishes after a second or two. This only started happening for me now in build 10166, and the menu was behaving beautifully in the earlier build (10162). I am unable to access all apps or customize my tiles. Most of the time it makes is very difficult to actually clck or tap on any of the tiles either to run something.
I've tried to change the configuration between "menu" and "screen" to see if its restricted to one of them, but both of them vanish after a few seconds.

Sep 11, 2015Whenever I log-in from hibernate or boot, the start interface shows. I had this enabled in Windows 8.1 (start screen), but now I'm on 10 (no start screen) and it still shows.
There is no option to disable it. Is there a registry key to disable this?
P.S. My start screen is normal, not full screen.
Unable To Search Executable Or Pinned Start Apps From Start Menu
Jul 28, 2015I'm running the RTM on a netbook and have noticed that, unlike in Windows 7/8/8.1, I'm no longer able to hit Start and type in an executable. I have a bunch of portable apps that I typically type in and pull up. Now, the Start menu search pulls up ever OTHER file except the executable. It's very annoying and don't see why this shouldn't work.
What's worse, is if I pin the app to the start menu, it doesn't search it then. Say, I pin "puttyportable.exe" as a shortcut (and rename it to just PuTTY) to the start menu. Typing in "putty" gives me nothing - just the same associated files that were in the puttyportable folder (ini files, etc).

The sart menu button does not activate anything, search doesn't either, Notification bubble does not open anything either.
Safe mode produces same behaviour, I have uninstalled AVG Anti virus as some people were correlating AV software with this behaviour.
I can right click on the start button but not left click
Apps :: Removing Windows Apps Sometimes Leaves Orphan Icons In Start Menu
Nov 30, 2015I removed the Windows Apps (3D Builder, Groovy etc.) using PowerShell and Remove-AppxPackage / Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage on our Windows 10 machines (64bit, some Home, some Pro) at home.
This worked satisfying enough, but for some (very few) local users the start menu entries for those apps are not removed. I refer to "All Apps" (the A-Z list of all apps).
Situation is like this: application is removed (checked with Get-Appxpackage in Powershell)start menu still refers to the Windows Apps with the text entry; it does not show the icon, but a coloured rectangle (sized like an icon)application cannot be started through this icon (as it is uninstalled)
(Screenshot shows the Maps (german: Karten) and Contacts (german: Kontakte) "icons")
I checked the usual places:
C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuC:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms
But of course there are no links to those Windows Apps.
How to remove these orphan "icons" from the start menu (A-Z list)? What makes Windows show those entries in the start menu's A-Z list?
Can't Pin Some Items In Start Menu To Start Screen?
Aug 2, 2015Any of the items under games in this screen shot will not pin to my Start Screen? They will pin to my taskbar though. It's windows 10 Enterprise if that matters. I can right click and select Pin to Start, but nothing happens. Right click again and Pin To Start is still listed as an option, but doesn't do anything?

Feb 23, 2016I originally wanted to completely disable the UAC as the admin permission messages that popped for almost any/everything i wanted to do were very annoying. I dont remember exactly what i did, but it was something in gpedit or something similar to it. After i did that my windows store app stopped working, and appeared as a blank space in my task bar as it was still pinned there. As the store wasnt working, apps related to it like the calculator disappeared from my pc. They dont appear when i search for them, and links to DL ones from the store dont work either.
I tried the guide here Apps - Reinstall and Re-register in Windows 8 and 10 - Windows 10 Forums and did step 2, but that managed to break powershell and make it disappear as well as disabling my task bar and start menu. I cant right click anything in my task bar, and can only use the start menu's right click menu.
Desktop / Win32 Apps Missing From Start Menu (All Apps) And Search
Jul 23, 2015Some desktop apps are missing from the "All apps" section of the Start menu. Most programs are there, but I'd say 10-15% are missing. Apps that are missing also do not show up when searching the Start menu, and they cannot be pinned to the Start screen as tiles from File Explorer. (The option to "Pin to Start" is there, but selecting it doesn't do anything.)
I have a screenshot here of Outlook 2013 missing from the Start menu even though it is present in the "Start Menu" programs shortcut folder. This is one of many examples.
I've tried resetting the Windows Search index a few times and that hasn't done any good.
Additionally, I've tried adding my own shortcuts and folders to the "Start Menu" programs folder and the changes do not reflect on the Start menu "All apps" section. It's as if it has cached the structure somewhere and it is not updating for changes (or it is ignoring some changes). I tried to figure out some way to kick it into resetting but I have not been successful.
Apps :: Office Apps Not Appearing In Start Menu Folder
Sep 15, 2015I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to 10. My upgrade has been fairly buggy, but I am slowly working things out. One thing I can't seem to solve is my office apps are not showing up in the start menu folder. I had office 2010 before the upgrade, and that is when I first had the problem. I then uninstalled 2010 and upgraded to office 2013, and the problem persists.
After a few restarts and such I noticed the folder for office 2013 did show up in the start menu, but the only thing inside that folder is infopath. You can see what I mean in the attached screen shot. Also you will notice another folder beneath the first title Microsoft Office 2013. That folder was pinned to the start menu so that I could still access my office apps. I just did that as a quick fix. But not when I right click on that folder there is no option to unpin from the start menu. It only says pin to start menu.

Nov 4, 2015I have 2 accounts on my machine. On my primary account, the Xbox app would not launch - no error given, just click and nothing happens. So I logged into Windows with my second account and the Xbox app launches with no problem. However, the Groove app won't launch under the second account, whereas it will under my primary account. I have tried the Powershell command to remove and reinstall the app and that has been 100% unsuccessful.
It appears to do nothing more than remove it from the start menu as it still says "installed" if I search for it in the Store. If I reboot, then the Store will allow me to reinstall. The same issue persists in not launching and providing no errors.
I am completely baffled as to why some apps work under one account and not the other - both accounts are admins. Is there something else I can do? I had originally upgraded from Windows 7, but after getting all kinds of BSOD errors, I did a complete wipe and fresh install. I've had these default app not launching errors - or lack of errors as none are shown - since then.
I have seen lots of people saying their Store won't launch or the Start menu doesn't work, but I have had no issues with that...

Apps :: Store And Some Apps From Tiles In Start In It Do Not Open
Oct 3, 2015Store (windows app store) and various apps do not open from the start menu. Store will also not open from search box. It just flashes on the screen, but does not open. Apps- such as 3D builder, Alarms and Clocks, One Note, Sports just indicate this app cannot be opened and go to store. All remedies to fix store listed in forums for windows 8 and such have been tried but have no effect. App trouble shooter for windows 10 is unavailable, but did run it and it just gave message that it is not applicable to this issue. That is reset, get apps, restore, and such. Seems all that is left is to reset computer?

Aug 23, 2015I have apps installed from the Microsoft store on my laptop but they don't show up on the start menu to be able to pin to the start menu. They also don't show up under the "All Apps" area. Is there a way to force apps to show up so that I can pin them to the start menu?
Twice now I've had pinned apps disappear from my start menu - for example, I pinned a game & the notepad to the start menu. Then when going back to the start menu later, they're gone. I have repinned them in a different spot on the start menu & they seem to be staying now - is this normal?

Aug 16, 2015The first thing i did after installing Win10 was setting my updates to notify for downloads and installation so that I could decide whether to download updates or not. However I noticed that new apps like People, Phone Companion, Calculator appeared on the start menu after sometime. These apps were not there when i first installed Windows 10. Also after I first used my HP printer, The HP remote control app installed itself and was visible on the start screen.

Aug 22, 2015I recently installed Windows 10 Home using the iso. It was fine but after sometime, the start and metro apps had stopped working. I thought that re-install would do the trick. So I reformatted C: and installed Windows 10 again hoping it wouldn't come again. But now after two weeks... the exact same thing happened. Start, Action Center, Settings, Search... not working. Tried the powershell command, didn't work. Also I cannot create a new user because the settings app crashes... Start wouldn't come up at all. Metro Apps like Calculator, Store and all, they just simply crash after showing the splash screen for a second. I can't do another reformat...

However, when I actually get to the lock screen after having set the apps to appear, there is nothing but the time and date and WiFi in bottom-right corner.
Could this be because I am logging in locally rather than using a MS account?
Red Start Up Screen
Oct 5, 2015Windows 10 install went fine a couple of wks ago. Computer ok last night. This am it had turned itself off. I rebooted thinking there must have been an automatic windows update. Start up screen is red. I can not access the start menu nor the internet.
