How To Put Windows Onto USB Drive From A Disk
Aug 23, 2015
I have recently bought Windows 10 for my new PC and I do not have an optical drive. I am not sure how to put it onto a USB drive so I can install it from that. I've looked all over but I can't find a solid way to do it. I also only have a iMac as another computer so I'm not sure if it will affect how to put Windows 10 onto the USB drive. I need the most specific instructions that you can give me.

I wanted to get more space in my c drive and used mini tool to move 100 gbs from my d drive to the c drive (local drive). Then i tried defragmenting my c drive but the results were the same every time. I defragmented the c drive 30 times with different software and stuff but the results didnt change.

I have successfully upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 (and solved the initial network connection problems).
However my OS has a lot of crud from the pre-upgrade state and I would like to do a clean install of Windows 10, without losing any old data files. I've read online guides on doing clean installs of Windows 10, but it is not clear whether you can only install into partitions that already have a valid Windows OS installed.
My computer has two identical hard disks, one of which is (or can be made) blank so what I would like to do is keep one with the 'cruddy' version of Windows 10 - at least until I have copied over all the files I want to keep and made sure I've installed all the software I want on the new 'clean install' Windows 10.
So, are there people out there who have done this? Are there things I should look out for?

I have a program that I wanted to install into my Win 10 Pro Machine (64 Bit) and have found that the disk can not be read by the DVD/CD-ROM Drive. I also tried it in another Windows 10 Computer (64 Bit) and it also can't read the disk. The disk worked fine under Windows 7, in both the same computers. The drive works as it reads other CD/DVD's.
The disk is good as it works perfect in an other Windows 7 (32 Bit) and Vista computers (32 Bit). Computer is up to date with builds etc.

After downloading Windows 10 my disk drive has stopped recognising that I have any sort of disc in it, I believe this is because of the Windows 10 download as I was using it up until the point of the upgrade.

I am getting a low disk space message from my system backup drive. It's 1 TB and it is full. There are not any files that I can delete. They are all system files.
Two questions:
1. Why is it so large?
2. Can I install a new larger drive and have it move the system files there?

Two nights ago, I had a brief power outage at my house. Since then, my Windows 10 preview installation will not boot. It keeps giving a boot disk error. I first tried booting from my Build 10166 disc created from ISO and running the startup repair. I've seen errors using this tool on previous Windows versions, but the computer quickly rebooted, so I thought it was successful without errors. Nope, I still get the boot disk error message.
I booted again with my installation disc and tried running the "Refresh" option. This time, I get a message that the drive containing my Windows installation is locked and that I should unlock it before trying again. How I can unlock the drive? Unless I figure that out, it sounds like I will have to perform a clean installation.of Windows 10, which I don't really want to have to do again.

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, programs, especially games, suddenly halt and the disk light comes on. This is especially annoying during games as everything halts on-screen until the disk light goes off. I was just playing Assassins Creed Syndicate and the dialog would go silent while the disk light was on. It's almost like Windows 10 is halting while a load is taking place.
I originally thought my games disk was beginning to age but this happens in IE, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc., which are on a different disk.Does Win 10 have a disk management issue? I just happened to think that my page file is on a separate disk from Win 10 and my games. Could this cause an issue?

My old Windows XP Desktop stopped running 2 weeks ago, with a No OS Found error. Since then I've taken the hard drive out and connected it to my new Windows 10 desktop with a USB 2.0 to SATA Adapter. It does not show up in "My Computer", but is detected in Computer Management.
The drive's an old Western Digital WD2000 one, and started clicking (for a few seconds) as soon as I attached it to the PC w/the USB Adapter. The clicking stopped after that.
It shows up as "Disk 1, Unknown, with the amount of data on it (186.31 GB [out of 200]), and is Unallocated. I've already tried numerous utility and Data Recovery programs, such as Recuva, MiniTool Partition Wizard, EaseUS Data/Partition Recovery. No luck with these.
They were either not detected, or didn't find anything. MiniTool Partition Wizard said it's a "Bad Disk" I
Partition Find and Mount is still conducting a scan which has been going for the past 7 hours (35%).
BTW - I really can't leave the hard drive on for the night to conduct a long scan. It's been overheating, and I already have a large fan next to it to cool it down. It's not safe to leave this on for an extended period of time.
Only to find out I bought a USB 3.0 Adapter instead of a 2.0 my old XP supported when It still ran.

Since I upgraded to windows10 I am unable to watch movies from a DVD. I can read other kinds of disks just fine, just not movies. For instance, I wanted to watch the sixth Harry Potter movie. So I enter my DVD but my laptop just says there is no disk entered. I thought there was something wrong with my DVD at first. But it works fine in all other devices I have at home. So then I thought the problem must be my disk drive. But then I inserted the bonus DVD of the movie, and this one worked fine. WHAT? How is this even possible, both are DVD's, just the bonus disk doesn't have a movie on it. I tried this with all the harry potter movies we have at home and the same occurred each time, the movie DVD does not work but the bonus DVD (with behind the scenes and whatever) works fine. I have searched all over the internet and haven't found a solution. The only thing I find is people of which their Disk Drive isn't found anymore. But this is not my problem.
P.S.: It's a laptop, the details can be found on my profile I believe. And I wasn't really sure in which thread I should post this. As it isn't really a hardware problem, I don't think it's a driver problem (my pc says drivers are up to date) so I assumed it must be a software problem.

New computer with Windows 10, will not show the floppy disc drive in File Explorer after plugging in. Floppy disc IS in the disc drive when plugging into the computer; then when opening File Explorer, no disc letter or item is shown for this drive. How do we make this work?

I'm using Windows 10 on my PC. I have been using it for about 3 months now and I regret installing it. There is so many problems with it. One of these problems is my disk drive will not play or run any disks I insert into it. In the file explorer, the disk drive is not present in the "Devices and Drives" section. However, It is still present in the Device manager.

I have to do an install of Windows 10. It was only a few days ago I just installed to a hdd. The hdd is clearly screwed at a certain point. I copied a load of stuff to it and it is now totally locked into doing something. Whatever it is trying to figure out - I have seen it do it before. Just to cut a long story short - I am about to install win10 to a new drive. ssd incidentally.
do I need to completely format over that disk partition with win 10 on it before doing a new install on the new drive? What I am asking is whether it will refuse to license it if it detects another win10 on the system. Just that portion of the disk is screwed but I have stuff on different parts of that disk that are fine... They can stay. I will simply consider that partition out of bounds from now on.

Windows keeps putting my Canon printer in device manager under the disk drive. Also puts the printer under printers which is correct. Everytime I uninstall it from under the disk drive location.
It puts it back after a reboot. Also get dump files error on usb port, which the printer uses. Printer works fine, but it should not be put under the disk drive in device manager. only way to stop it, is to turn printer off, before I reboot.

When I was running Windows 7, my system had a small solid state C drive that did not have enough space for windows 10 upgrade. I got a larger 2TB regular hard disk and used the manufacturer's software to clone the old Windows-7 SSD C drive to the new 2TB and then upgraded to Windows 10.
Now under windows 10, when go into defrag, the C Drive shows as a Solid State drive and of course windows does not want to optimize it.
The new drive definitely is not SSD. I assume somehow that setting was cloned from the old disk.
Is there either a way to change the C drive to a regular "hard disk drive" or force windows to defrag what it thinks is a SSD?

I currently have a PC that is running Windows 8.1. I have a 120GB SSD as the primary drive ( C: ) with the OS and a few programs installed on it. I also have a 750GB HDD ( D: ) installed in the computer. Over the past year and a half, I've installed some programs to the SSD and some to a folder on the HDD. I plan on updating this computer to Windows 10. To do that though, I was planning on wiping the SSD and doing a fresh install to it and just reinstalling any programs. My question is if there will be any issues regarding the programs installed on the HDD. I'm guessing some of them probably still have certain files installed on the SSD and that wiping it will mess up those programs.
I'm also wondering what a good way of installing programs to a secondary drive is for the future. I'd like to install some programs to the secondary drive without worrying about certain files still existing on the SSD while still being able to install some programs to the SSD itself. This way if updating in the future, I wouldn't have to worry about this issue. Let me know if this makes sense and if I need to clarify something.

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disk. Windows cannot be installed to this disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS.".

Basically, I plan to disconnect every other Drive from my computer (my 2nd SSD and the HDD I use for data storage). From there, I'd do a clean install of Windows 10 onto my SSD.
Will that SSD become my C Drive by default (I want it to)? Will is stay that way when I reconnect my other drives provided I continue to boot from my SSD?

Trying to dual boot build 10130 iso on a fresh install of 8.1. Received a message:"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition style"
Laptop is an Asus x550c.
System recovery to Asus factory default.
Asus has a default 4 Partition setup. I added a 5th, Partition 6, by shrinking Partition 4
Looks something like this:
Drive 0 Partition 3 128MB MSR (Reserved)
Drive 0 Partition 4 OS 395GB Primary
Drive 0 Partition 5 451MB Recovery
Drive 0 Partition 6 New Volume 48GB Primary
Drive 0 Partition 7 Restore 20GB Recovery
I'm using the new Build 10130 iso which just came out.I don't want to use a VM like I have on a Desktop.

I'm running windows 10 with 8GB of RAM, an Intel i5, an ASRock z77 Extreme 4 mobo, and a Radeon Sapphire 7950 HD. All of the sudden when I boot up my computer it is extremely slow and I found out that my disk usage was 100%. None of the processes in task manager show any usage that would warrant even 5% disk usage.
I looked up some guides and disabled Superfetch and Windows Search in services.msc then restarted my pc. That didn't work even though they are still disabled. I let it sit there for 10 or so minutes and the disk usage went back to normal at <5%. It turns out that if I hit the windows key or press the windows button in the bottom left it won't work and it just makes my disk usage go back up and within 15 seconds it is back to normal.
Why my disk usage is so high on startup and why the windows key won't work/makes me use 100% of my disk?
Video of windows key/button causing 100%: [URL] ....
