View 1 RepliesHow do I remove items seen in the notification + action menu? At first there were only messages, phones, outlook but for some reason my list is growing, from glance, wifi to extras + info(?)

1 at the start I only have those damn tiles and my "list" to the far left is missing, like the one in Windows 7. how do I get that back, is there an easy way as im not techie
2 when im on any page, if i move my cursor from right to left i get a clock and options bar to right it just appears.
I just want the windows 7 start up list back and the damn floating clock gone, then maybe I will start to like Windows 10.
I got an email today titled 'Welcome to Windows 10 Getting Started Series'. I hate being pestered like this. It said in the email:"f youve opted out of receiving email, youll only get one more in this series" but I can't find any way of verifiying if I've opted out. I went to my microsoft account and looked all over but couldn't find anything that confirmed if I had opted out or in. I suspect ms deliberately designed it this way to make it hard to do so.
View 4 RepliesI have the following in Notifications
I have uninstalled Screenshot Captor, I have run CCleaner over the Registry, I removed all traces of Screenshot Captor from the registry and I've rebooted - yet the Notification list still has those nine entries in for Screenshot Captor How can I get rid if them ?
I no longer need Screenshot Captor because Win 10's built facilities are adequate, for me at least.
MS have never gotten the system tray/notification area functioning properly since... forever
Windows 10 always keeps putting back the drop shadow for the label under the desktop icons. I go into System -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance and uncheck "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop". Click apply. If I do this at after logging off the shadows disappear. However at some random point in time a few minutes after it just puts them back on.
View 9 RepliesBefore installing windows 10 should I back up and or save my libraries, documents, pictures etc. and all the downloaded programs and files I currently use?
View 3 RepliesI did the install yesterday - no problem. When I tried to open Word and Excel today, they were empty. All of my files were gone! Can I get them back?
View 1 RepliesI just updated to windows 10 and when I first started up my computer my files were there, just moved to a different folder(i had to access them through C:/users) I then restarted my computer and now all of files that were on my desktop, downloads folder, pictures, and music folder have all disappeared. Searching for them using Cortana gives no results. Is there anyway I can get them back? Should I try restoring my system to Windows 7?
View 7 RepliesI have a configuration where win 10 is installed on SSD but the Users folder is on a dynamic disk on HDD and the linking is made by a hard junction link from C: to D. I have removed paging on D as well as protection. Hence, I am able to remove all volumes of the dynamic disk and convert it back to a basic disk and format it.The problem is that I would like to keep all my installed programs (and settings, preferably). I have copied the Users directory to an external disk and copied them back to D after conversion. This seems to lead to a nonfunctional situation where I cannot even add a new user and most programs (even not all windows tools) do not work. What would be the best approach to avoid reinstalling the programs and to keep existing users?
View 2 RepliesHave HP Pavilion Dv5 running windows 10, I purchased a new HP Envy with Win 10 installed.I want to give DV5 to my step-daughter with Win 10 on it, and remove me from laptop and Win 10 completely. I have files stored on flash drives and OneDrive and have a Microsoft Account.
If I do a total reboot of Win 10 and have her as Administrator and get a Microsoft account, that should work? My Microsoft Account and OneDrive will be able to link with new Envy laptop and with installed Win 10?
I have Dell Inpiron 3420 Laptop. Windows7 Home Basic was my built-in OS. Now i have upgraded it to Windows10 Home Edition. Now i have left less space in my C-drive. So i want to delete unused files, folders from C-drive. And I also want to backup my windows10 too.
View 9 RepliesI have signed up for nothing, nor agreed to anything (knowingly) but I am concerned that Win 7 updates are 'prepping' me for the win 10 upgrade. Rather than MS having my interests in mind, I've been forced to scrutinize every update that is offered so I have turned Automatic Updates off. I caught the KB 2952664 update and have hidden it, but I am wondering if there are other such "updates" out there that will force/nag me to "upgrade"?
View 3 RepliesMy Windows 10 seems to share some files and i cannot figure out how to disable files sharing.
I have 0 files in my Media player library, also, i have no other dlna sw installed that shares anything.
How to remove these files from shared list?
I just realized that all the shared files are .mov files. Are the .mov files automatically shared somehow?
I have two drives with files on them and want to make one drive A inactive(remove windows) so that I can make the other drive have windows 10. What is the easiest way to do that without removing or formating Drive A.
View 2 RepliesFrom the start screen, type 'inetcpl.cpl' and then press Enter. In the Internet Properties window, click the Security tab, click the Internet Zone (globe icon), and then click the Custom level button. In the Security settings window, scroll down to Downloads>File download. Click to select Enable. Scroll down the list further to Miscellaneous>Launching applications and unsafe files. Click to select Prompt (recommend). Click OK. These steps will remove that default security block for downloads.

View 9 RepliesLooking to remove the "pin to start" context menu from Windows 10, I use startmenu replacement and that option is very much in the way. There was a way for win 8.1.Files in Windows 8..But reg files changed, so how to get Win 10 version of it?
View 1 RepliesWhat I mean is, if I select to keep my personal files only, will the installed programs be removed completely from my hard drive, or will they be moved to the Windows.Old folder like what happens in Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 ?
Because I would like to have them in the Windows.Old folder in case I might need some of the files there, but I want the installation to be clean as well.
the go back button on edge doesn't seem to have the ability to, when you click and hold on it, see many of the previous pages, so you can go back more than one page per click.
View 5 RepliesI was running Windows 7 and upgraded to Windows 10. I lost no data or programs or pictures, etc. Windows 10 worked fine for about a month and then developed a "restart required" loop. After several attempts I tried the Recovery option, thinking it would take me back to a restore point as in Windows 7. Instead it took me back to Windows 7 and all data and programs (other than the Windows 7 default programs) are gone. How can I get back to either 7 with my data and programs or 10 with my data and programs?
View 1 RepliesNo alerts, sounds or banners especially with email. I get nuthin'. I think I got one banner from an email back on Jul 29 but after that zilch. Yes, I have my settings configured properly.
I do get Windows update notices in the Action Center and maybe a News Alert on occasion.
I try to find a solution but nothing. I have this problem, What can i do?
View 6 RepliesAny way to turn off: "Check for solutions to problem reports"?
I would like to stop receiving notifications. In Control Panel/Security and Maintenance this feature is listed under "Maintenance" with no option to disable. On the left side there is a link for:
"Change Security and Maintenance Settings", but there is no option there either to turn this off.
Not for the first time in W10 I noticed a notification slide off the screen before I had a chance to read it..
I need to access those notifications, after all, I'm in charge of the West's nuclear arsenal and could have missed something damned important!
How do I review old notifications that got away from me?
