How To Remove Security Block For Downloaded Files
Sep 6, 2015
From the start screen, type 'inetcpl.cpl' and then press Enter. In the Internet Properties window, click the Security tab, click the Internet Zone (globe icon), and then click the Custom level button. In the Security settings window, scroll down to Downloads>File download. Click to select Enable. Scroll down the list further to Miscellaneous>Launching applications and unsafe files. Click to select Prompt (recommend). Click OK. These steps will remove that default security block for downloads.

I want to block a certain application from any access to the internet, either inbound or outbound, so it will never attempt to upgrade. I went in the Advanced Settings in Windows Firewall but I can only block one-by-one the executable files (EXE) and this application has at least 30. Is there any way to block all EXE files in a specific folder at once?
I want to block all executables from accessing or receiving data from the internet, which is a totally different thing.

Well this a new one, yesterday I was downloading a movie, via Utorrent as I have done so many times before. As I do with all my films, I saved them in the directory downloads / Tv shows and films / films / movie title. As I expected, the torrent downloaded fine without any issues and I was about to get ready to watch the film when I noticed something odd. The folder containing TV shows had completely disappeared.
Additionally, I then checked the films folder, to notice all but 4 films (Including the one being downloaded) had also disappeared. I've spent the past hour researching, running malware scans (found nothing), losing the files doesn't bother me, at most, its an inconvenience. What's concerning me is how this could have happened, as mentioned above, I have ran multiple scans and found no evidence that the torrent could have been infected.
(I should point out, when I say disappeared, I mean complete gone from my system. I have checked the recycle bin, tried searching the names of movies and so on. I only have to look at my partitioned drive to see the additional 150GB of space that it now has.)

I upgraded a HP desktop from the factory-installed 8.1 to 10 about two months ago. I seldom use that computer, but from what I have discovered so far is that everything seems to work quite well with the exception of Edge. In fact, nothing about Edge seems to function properly. Here are my issues:
Regardless of what settings I choose on the Edge home page (top sites and suggested content, top sites, or a blank page), Edge always open to a blank page. I have researched that issue for days and nothing solves the problem. When I attempt to clear my browsing data, I always receive the message “all data could not be cleared - try again”.
Absolutely no files can be downloaded using Edge. Downloads start and then abort. IE11 works properly.Unfortunately I waited too long to revert back to 8.1, so now I am stuck with 10. Well, not exactly stuck because I do have an 8.1 image on an external drive I could restore. Still, I rather like 10 and would prefer to keep using it. So, am I facing a clean install of 10, or are there some other possibilities?

I've received 5 files from 5 sources, both Excel and Word. Every time I try to open one I get an error message "File is corrupt and can't be opened." I can work on my own files, but not downloads.
I tried the Windows 10 "workarounds" but these didn't work. I've tried to download using both Firefox and Edge, no difference.

My PC has downloaded all of the Windows 10 installation files in the $Windows.~BT folder, but I have not had any installation notices. How to initiate the installation?
I've read not to click the setup application in the $Windows.~BT folder as this will apparently make the files disappear.

I was invited to download/install Windows 10 and I followed all the steps to download the files. Then I clicked to install it and it seemed to be doing it. Windows closed down and the computer restarted, but when it opened again it was still Windows 7 and there was a box up relating to Windows upgrades that that said the 'latest upgrade' had failed, and there was a button to click to download Windows 10 if I wanted to (again?!).
I don't know where all the files are that were downloaded and what I should do. I saw a suggestion somewhere that firewall/antivirus software can be a problem. I have Bitdefender, that doesn't allow you to disable it.. I suppose I could remove it completely before trying again? But otherwise what should I do? I don't want to download a lot of duplicate files again.

Ever since i've updated to Windows 10 i've been having an issue with permissions which im unable to fix.
Basically all of my software and files located on a non-system hard drive appear to be restricted in one way or another despite the fact that i've manually set all of the permissions and made myself an owner of an entire hard drive.
Here are the examples of issues i've experienced:
1) I can't run any software i've installed on that hard drive unless im running it as administrator. This includes GOM player, Adobe Photoshop, Filezilla, Steam and other applications. I can run any software on a system disk without confirming it first as administrator though.
2) I can't drag and drop files from that hard drive to or from installed applications like GOM and VLC player's or Adobe Photoshop - it just won't let me since the cursor changes into a cross. If i installed the software on a system drive - i can drag and drop files (movies, photos, etc) just fine when i need to play something in VLC or edit files in Photoshop.
3) I couldn't use archives and drag and drop files from and to archives without a warning about "harmful files" popping up constantly until i installed winrar on a system disk.
4) Some files gotten locked if they were downloaded from the internet. I think i was able to fix that by editing permissions and security settings in gpedit.msc and explorer though.
Is there a reason why this keeps happening?

"Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened".
First Disk Management doesn't work, now this?
My Windows 10 Experience is being top notch.
Been searching around and people say to reset IE, but Windows 10 doesn't have IE, I deleted some files from AppData like someone said to be able to reset Edge.
Same thing happens, I'm getting quite annoyed at this.
I can't use disk management as well:

I have selected certain file types / folders and locations in Windows Defender on Windows 10 that were added to the exclusions lists...
Previously I could go to Windows Defender and see what files, folders or extensions I had excluded but now they have disappeared....
All I see is the add buttons which work as intended when I want to add a folder etc etc.... But then they are not listed anywhere so that I can remember what I have excluded or not....
How to get that visible again, is there a setting in the registry that needs to be fixed?
This is what I should see where, below the red arrows I should see the excluded files/folders including their path etc etc [see image below]
but I see nothing..
Yet if i go to the registry as indicated below...
File and file location exclusions are stored in the registry key below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows DefenderExclusionsPaths
File type exclusions are stored in the registry key below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows DefenderExclusionsExtensions
Processes exclusions are stored in the registry key below.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows DefenderExclusionsProcesses
they are all listed there....?
I have to say that windows defender is excluding folders/files and etc etc, that I have selected during its scans, but I cant see the excluded items in the Windows Defender as per image of my Exclusions section below...

Have HP Pavilion Dv5 running windows 10, I purchased a new HP Envy with Win 10 installed.I want to give DV5 to my step-daughter with Win 10 on it, and remove me from laptop and Win 10 completely. I have files stored on flash drives and OneDrive and have a Microsoft Account.
If I do a total reboot of Win 10 and have her as Administrator and get a Microsoft account, that should work? My Microsoft Account and OneDrive will be able to link with new Envy laptop and with installed Win 10?

I have signed up for nothing, nor agreed to anything (knowingly) but I am concerned that Win 7 updates are 'prepping' me for the win 10 upgrade. Rather than MS having my interests in mind, I've been forced to scrutinize every update that is offered so I have turned Automatic Updates off. I caught the KB 2952664 update and have hidden it, but I am wondering if there are other such "updates" out there that will force/nag me to "upgrade"?

What I mean is, if I select to keep my personal files only, will the installed programs be removed completely from my hard drive, or will they be moved to the Windows.Old folder like what happens in Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 ?
Because I would like to have them in the Windows.Old folder in case I might need some of the files there, but I want the installation to be clean as well.
