After upgrading from windows 7, some of my desktop shortcuts have this shield icon graffiti sullying their lovely visages. Can I remove these somehow?
When i click ''start menu'', the App's icons are red, green, blue or yellow, changing color (or not), you know when your anti-virus change from green to red if you don't make the upgrade, then to red to green after the upgrade. What's this color change mean in window10 ?.

View 1 Replieshow to get rid of that annoying UAC shield icon Windows 10 likes to randomly put on shortcuts? I know I could shut UAC off but the second I do stuff like personalize starts throwing a built-in admin error, and such. There has to be a way somehow.
View 2 RepliesI removed the arrow from my desktop icons, but i see there is now a thin blue square around most icons. The blue line seems useless and clutters the icon. How to get rid of those blue lines?
View 6 RepliesRunning Windows 10 on a Dell Venue 8 pro Tablet. Several months ago, and just yesterday I lost my desktop. Turned on the Tablet went to the desktop picture after signing in and ... nothing. No live panels, no desktop icons, the action center would not appear. Just the desktop picture. If I tapped on the picture, the icons would appear for a split second. Anything pinned to the bar along the bottom would work. I was able to get to system restore and restore to a couple of days ago. That worked. What happened. Don't really know how to fix other than system restore.
View 1 RepliesI have updated my desk top with no problems and have set it to sleep after an hour, however it still goes to sleep after 10 minutes. It then sits with the blue sign on screen with no account pic or sign in box for ages before going to a blue screen which flickers for a few seconds before giving me the sign in options. I have tried adjusting all the power saver options to no avail!
View 5 RepliesMy Lenovo desktop locked up and I rebooted. First it went in to an endless reboot and after several tries I got the Lenovo start screen and then a blank BLUE SCREEN. The mouse and keyboard work. I updated to 10/10.1 over the net, no disk.
View 1 RepliesRecently I have seen that my laptop desktop seems to have a "frame" on it. I have marked the frame on the attached screenshot. I can't seem to get rid of it.
(1) how it happened, and (2) how to get rid of it permanently? It has no effect (except for my frustration) on the workings of my laptop. The "frame" cannot be re-sized, nor moved.
Is it possible to remove the "Name Group" from the Desktop?

I have this slight problem: the ''search the web'' toolbar never seems to go away, it's stuck in the upper part of my screen:
how I can remove it from there once and for all?
After upgrade of Win7 to Win10 I got an Onedrive icon on my desktop. It can't be deleted.
Is there a way to disable this icon in the registry? What is the guid?
I was wondering/can't figure out if I can hide the desktop library and other things from the file explorer.
View 3 RepliesI upgraded to Win 10 from Win 7 yesterday. I now have a translucent rectangle on the upper left corner of my screen. It's a lighter shade than the background color of the desktop. Can't move or remove it & don't know what caused it but it is distracting as it also appears on screen when running an app. How did you fix?
View 1 RepliesI guess I should have come here first but I searched the internet on how to fix this aggravation. It seems the accepted way is to go into the Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings and uncheck the box for Use drop shadows for Icon labels on the Desktop. Been there, did that, rebooted, and absolutely nothing changed.
I went back to the same place and turned off the other two references to shadows, rebooted, and again, no effect anywhere that I could see.
Why making a double image of text would seem like a good idea. All it does for me is make it damn near impossible to read.
do not refer me to System/Advanced/Visual settings. I've removed every check mark in there referring to shadows and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has changed. These shadows are making me go blind. I absolutely cannot read them.
View 9 RepliesI was messing around with folders and stuff in Windows 10, now this Microsoft Office Outlook icon is stuck on my desktop all of a sudden and there is no way to get rid of it.
-Doesn't provide a delete option
-Selecting it and pressing the delete key nor shift+delete works
-Doesn't show up in explorer when you navigate to Desktop folder
-Doesn't appear in search results
-Even trying to open it does nothing
-Is visible when using the Unlocker program, but still no option to delete. Clicking 'OK' just closes Unlocker.
Wasn't really installing anything when I noticed it, and malwarebytes found nothing, so I'm pretty sure it's not a virus or anything.
-Someone told me to "hold shift, right click empty area on desktop, click open command window here in the right click menu, type dir & hit enter, type del "name"" but it didn't show up there either.
-I was asked if I ever had Office 2007 or how old my machine is, but the answer is no and I built this desktop in 2011, just last week did a fresh install of Windows 10 Home. Also, this just appeared today; never before.
-Was told its a registry entry, not a file, and to to look for it in regedit [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer but it's not there
-Told to delete {00020D75-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDesktopNameSpace but it is also not there.
The only thing is that when I search for "Microsoft Office Outlook" in regedit, I get this file:
Deleted it and nothing happens. Reappears when you restart the computer.
I tried booting into safe mode as well as removing the latest windows update that occurred on the same day.
Icon shortcuts on the desktop? Even with SSD drive I will boot and whilst Windows loads in seconds when the desktop displays only about 75% of the icons display correct. The rest have the generic white paper icon, then after a couple more secs the majority then display correctly save for some stragglers which will then display correctly after a couple more secs. I thought really the icons should display properly more or less instantly.
After that it's all fine but it's same behaviour each boot. I do notice very occasionally the desktop icons refresh after boot but it's very rare and seems to coincide perhaps with app updates in background / new installs. When it does happen it's similar behaviour, the majority of icons flash white for a milli second and then appear fine but there are stragglers that take a few more secs to refresh correctly
I hid the icons when I had Windows 7 because I was using Rainmeter and I didn't want them to show. I honestly don't remember how I did it but I know I didn't delete them. Now I have Windows 10 and want them back, but "show dektop icons" is checked. How could I get them back?
View 1 RepliesMy windows 10 pc did an update on Monday night, when I restarted my pc Tue. am my icons are just big blue arrows now, with the text name of the icons. How do I get my icons back.
View 1 RepliesFor some reason, every time I change users, the desktop icons re-arrange themselves.I Switch Users often. This hasn't happened in 20 years, but Win10 has decided to do this.I cannot find any way to do this.
View 9 RepliesMy desktop icons keep rearranging and windows explorer won't save the position I put them in.
I can rearrange them but when I click 'Refresh' or if I restart explorer or if I reboot they rearrange to another setup. This happens in both normal mode and safe mode.
I have tried all the solutions available on the internet with no luck, including the obvious ones (trying all the auto-arrange and grid options) and even some more complex ones (sfc, registry tweaks).
