View 1 RepliesI lost my Picasa pictures and my document files when I switched from windows 8 to windows 10
View 1 RepliesI downloaded windows 10 and then i woke up windows 10 is gone and so were my files.
View 1 RepliesI'm not sure what to do! My little boy switched off my pc whilst Windows 10 was doing an upgrade and now I can't access my pc or keep my files. How I can retrieve them or have I got to strip the hard drive?
View 3 RepliesI upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 over 4 days ago. After windows 10 was up, all the folders/files in my desktop were moved somewhere. I did a file search and moved them back to the desktop. I was on a general user admin account. Shortly after, I logged into my outlook account on windows 10. Could still see all the files/folders on my desktop.
But when I rebooted my pc for 1st time after upgrading to windows 10, all the desktop files/folders disappeared. File search could only find the icon links in ..../Recent folder. No physical files/folders exist for those icon links. Online MS techs had tried to look into my pc remotely but they could not find anything. One online tech suggested Office 365 could recover them since the files may be saved in Office app, but I used Office to search for the files with no success.
All other personal files/folders not saved on desktop are still OK. All was lost for the files/folders on desktop?
I've upgraded from win 8.1 to 10. after upgrade all my files were in local disk user and in the folders but were not in library folders e.g pics were in local disk user pictures but not in file explorer pictures. so i moved every thing to the folders and after restarting my laptop everything was gone... what can i do to recover my data.
View 1 RepliesI just upgraded to W10 from W8.1 and have lost my desktop short cuts and files. How do I recover them. During the upgrade process it said all files were transferred properly. I have looked at windows.old, but don't know what to look for or how to recover them from that file.
View 9 RepliesI was able to attach files using the combination of gmail and Windows 8. However, since I upgraded to Windows 10, I have been unable to attach the same files in gmail. The Attach files GUI opens, I select the file to attach, click OPEN, and the system goes back to the GUI without linking to the selected attachment. Double-clicking doesn't work, either. No attachment.
View 2 RepliesAfter a recent upgrade to Windows 10 pro I lost all my files within my documents The funny thing is that all files within my pictures and video, music were not affected.
View 9 RepliesI just moved to another country and forgot my extra hard drive, so I didn't back up my files before upgrading to Windows 10. The installation went fine. After the install was done, I tested out a number of programs with no problems. Satisfied, I migrated my old desktop files over (for some reason Window's decided to not migrate them on its own). Upon restarting my computer for updates, I noticed my desktop had reverted back to what Windows 10 had originally set it up has, with little more than recycle bin and a few really random programs shortcutted. Curious as to where it migrated my old desktop files, I began to search ... nothing in my old user settings desktop file ... the recently found links all display the message 'file may have been deleted or moved' ... windows search turns up nothing for any file I had on the desktop. I am closing in beyond afraid that I've lost all of the files on my desktop in some glitch or migration error.
View 9 RepliesMy daughter upgraded to Windows 10 on her laptop recently. She lost all of her word documents and most everything else that was saved on her computer. Is there a way to get the files back? She is a college student and has lost all of her school files from the last three years.
View 8 RepliesI had an issue with windows 10 and reinstalled windows 10 and chose the option, keep files, however, I am not able to find anything.
I searched and windows.old folder is not there.
I also tried to restore the system, however, nothing is working.
I recently updated my win 8.1 laptop to win 10. Then for the first few times that I used this computer I noticed that my files were hidden in the windows.old folder. So I copied them to their respective libraries and moved on.
Then earlier this morning I turned on my laptop to see some updates happening. After it happened, I saw my computer apps go back, and some of my customization settings. However, my library files are nowhere to be found (documents, images, videos, sounds). How to recover?
Normally I use my sister's computer and sign in as a guest. I had a ton of pictures there that I backed up frequently on an external drive, but the last 1000 or so hadn't been backed up.
The thing is, today I come to the computer to find it's now Windows 10 and there is no guest account. The other accounts kept all their files like nothing happened but mine are all gone like they never existed.
My upgrade (laptop) went smoothly. However, a friend upgraded her computer and said her pictures are lost. I tried talking her through searching for them, and she said the ones that appear are 0 bytes in size. Of course, she should have backed up her files beforehand, but she's past that point.
If she rolls back to 7, might she get her pix back? If she rolls back to 7, can she reupgrade to 10?
earlier I plugged in the hard drive from my wife's PC into my own PC (both windows 10) so I could try to recover some files from it (as it's currently not booting into windows).
As soon as I booted my PC back up I could see the second hard drive was there but since then I've been experiencing all sorts of issues. I am still an administrator but I just don't seem to be able to do anything - it's hard to describe, but I can't move or change or delete ANY files or folders on my system, I can't move files to or from an external drive for back up, on the desktop the right click menu doesn't come up at all and on files/folders it has no ability to access properties.
Also, whilst most programs still open normally, any Microsoft Office programs just don't do anything at all when clicked on. It's as if I have lost all control over making any changes on my PC.
I assumed that the two drives were conflicting in some way so removed the second drive but the problems are still there.

However I am still running into an issue with Writing into about 50% of the folders in my C:
Two things could have possibly occurred to cause this issue,
1: I signed into my Microsoft account and from there out it wanted me to login to it to log into my PC, so I removed my Microsoft account
2: I shared a file to the OneDrive using the Microsoft account above.
There are multiple folders that the only thing I can do when I right click in it and go to "New" is make a new folder, no other options.
When I right click on the folder and go to Properties, Security tab, and try and change the settings for Users or administrators, I get the following error
Code:
An error occurred while applying security informationg to:C:Program Files (x86)TeamViewerConnections_incoming.txtFailed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied.
The above error applies to a lot of folders (but not all of them). My User account named Yekim is an administrator and the only account on my computer. I've tried elevating to administrator and changing the folder but it does not work.
So basically what I'm looking to do is to either give access to all files/folders on my computer to the User 'Yekim' or to properly give him administrator. Even though it does say he is already a local administrator it does not seem to apply.
Win10 auto updated my pc. Lost files book marks, desktop ,shortcuts.I don't know what else has been lost and I won't know till I hunt for something.
View 3 RepliesOK I did my windows 10 upgrade now on three machines. two of the machines were single user windows 8.1 prior to upgrade, but one was a Windows 7 Pro machine. I ran the upgrade, but lost my kids user id log on. I had a user id for them set up as a user with no admin rights and no password. I am not opposed to it having a password, now that the kids are teenagers, but I can't figure out how to recreate the user ID so that it is attached to all there saved files. Lots of schoolwork was saved on there ID. I can access it with my admin user account, but want to restore there id.
View 3 RepliesI upgraded from 8.1 to 10 and lost LAN, so could not connect to internet. Troubleshooter advised a possible driver problem with the network card, however the Realtek GBT family card showed up as working in device manager. Researching Internet came up with no solution. I rolled back to 8.1, found updated drivers for the network card, installed them, and upgraded again. Still the same problem. A friend upgrading from 7 had the same problem and with the same network card, and wireless. I realised we both had PrivateFirewall installed, and as soon as I uninistalled it, Internet was working again.
View 4 RepliesI have an Acer laptop that is only used for the Internet. The OS was recently upgraded to Windows 10, not by me. The problem is a forgotten or misused password. I can't get beyond enter your password. I'd like to reset the password, but Windows 10 isn't letting me do that.
View 1 RepliesAfter WIndows 10 Upgrade, I lost my printer on devices. I re-install the printer's driver and still it doesn't print. All my documents were in queued all the time. And then I visited my "Devices" again and found there were already 2 printers (the other one is with 'Copy 1') - most probably that's the one I recently installed.
Question: Does my printer really was lost after Windows 10 upgrade? or it's just there and I just have to do something...? Now, that I have re-installed the driver (Brother DCP-J100) and it appeared I have 2, am I going to uninstall it? It doesn't work now, I cannot print, in general, what will I do?
i was using Windows 10 Enterprise . And from automatic update, i lost my most important files . But , i have now recovered them . Now, the problem is that only two apps i.e. Cortana and Microsoft Edge are coming . And i can't find store, outlook, news and other apps etc .
Here is Screenshot ....
I seem to have lost all my files, music and apps in my W10 user account. I am unable to click on the start menu, the only way I can get any function from it is to right click on it. The start menu does not seem to work on any of the accounts.
Have uninstalled my McAfee AV
Have tried to do a W10 reinstall ( The previous version of windows was W8.1) But get the "Something Happened W10 Instillation has failed" at first the 25% 33% 44% and now the 83% part of the instillation.
How do I recover lost moved or displaced files and folders?
View 1 RepliesI updated to Windows 10 earlier today. I thought I had lost some important work files and some pics of my kiddo from the last 3 months. Found them by looking in the network folder. Copied them to the desktop to remind myself to send a copy to my external hard drive when I got home. Laptop restarted and when it came back on the files were gone. I could search for them and find them but they wouldn't open. In desperation I restored back to Windows 8 in the hopes that they would be found but they are nowhere to be seen. Don't even show up in a search. System restore shows no prior restoration points.
I have about 70 hours worth of work done that needs done by the end of the calendar year, work that I will have to make up on my own time and not get paid for if I can't find these files. I also have the last 3 months worth of pictures of my daughter on there, her birthday trip to the zoo, visit with my sister, things I want to put in her scrapbook.
