View 8 RepliesI recently purchased a new Dell laptop with Windows 10. I understand that Windows 10 defaults savings documents to the Documents folder on OneDrive. Every time I download documents, they get saved to OneDrive > Documents; whereas, I want them to save to the local Documents folder. I found an article that discussed how to change this by setting the Set Save Location to my local Documents folder. I did that, but Windows is not recognizing the change. Documents still get saved to OneDrive > Documents.how to fix this?
View 5 RepliesI recently got a new laptop and I've been having trouble with connecting to the internet. Several times a day, internet pages will stop loading and Windows diagnostics will come up with the message "The default gateway is not available". This is fixed by resetting the Wifi adapter. I've contacted my ISP and they say that there's nothing wrong with my connection so I'm guessing it's either something wrong with my laptop or the router.
View 7 RepliesI am running win 10 pro 32 and the way I have file explorer set up is in List view in name order, the problem I have is because there are so many folders when I right click and copy a name ( i.e. Tech Reports v23) then right click and make a new folder, that "new folder" is thrown into alphabetical order before I can paste the name in, usually as i try I've clicked in an empty location meaning i have to go through the routine of right click then rename then paste, not fun when you have between 20 to 40 a day to do. So need switching off the refresh while im working in that folder so it only refreshes when i manually right click once I've finished working
View 1 RepliesEvery time I open a folder with enough files to require a scroll bar, the view snaps back to the top after 10 seconds or more. I have turned off the color option and the wallpaper option.
View 3 RepliesWhen I right click the File Explorer icon on the taskbar, not only do I get the pinned files, but also the recently opened ones. How do I stop it recording the recent ones?
View 2 RepliesI upgraded to 10 from 8.1 on Friday and everything worked great. Suddenly, on the following Monday afternoon Windows began to act up. Either at the desktop or while in a game, suddenly the start menu and Cortana will stop responding. Usually shortly thereafter Explorer will stop responding, as well.
If I hover over items on the start bar - buttons, Cortana search, pinned applications, the system tray - the item will highlight like I can interact with it. But when I click, nothing happens. The start menu won't open, Cortana won't open, applications won't start, etc.
This seems to happen between thirty and forty-five minutes after booting up. I checked the event logs for Application, Security and System; there are critical errors but after spending a few hours following up, those don't seem to be related at all. I did not drill down any further than those logs.
I've attempted the solution at the following link, without any success. [URL] / I've also attempted a system restore to the previous day when everything was still working, but again, no luck.
How do i stop 10 from adding any USB removable drives (a second time, since they're always show in MyPC which i have expended)?
View 9 RepliesI want 'List', not 'Details'.
I could keep it at 'List' view in Windows 7, but I don't see a setting for that option any more?
Also, I downloaded a program called Explorer Plus Plus, which I love. Is there any way in Windows 10 to make IT my default Folder opener?
I'm used to working with quite a few libraries in W8.1 and would like file explorer in W10 to directly go to the libraries view if possible rather than the 'quick access' screen.
View 9 RepliesYou can set many columns in file explorer - details by right clicking on any column title and selecting one or more titles. I've added "file extension" and "attribute" to one window. This will allow sorting by the column title. I cannot find a way to save this setup as a default for all instances. The settings disappear after closing the window. There used to be an option to apply changes to all explorer windows but I can't find it in Win 10.
View 3 RepliesI need to be able to automate some settings in Windows 10 for our organization. I am looking for set the Default Browser to IE11 instead of Edge using the registry.
View 1 RepliesIn Windows 7 I could specify the start folder for Explorer by entering its path in the Target field of the Properties/Shortcut. This is now not possible as this filed is now grey (= read only) and cannot be modified.
View 2 RepliesI would like to hide desktop, documents, downloads, music, pictures, and videos folder under this PC in windows explorer.
View 1 RepliesI'd been using this method on Windows 7: Windows Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target And I take it that this is how it's done in 8: File Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target. Will the latter tutorial also work here in 10?
View 2 RepliesI have moved from FreeBSD to Win 10. The glaring white of the aforementioned objects is really painful to my old eyes. I cannot find references on Google about how to change this. I found one post that alleges this obnoxious color was hard coded. My desired colors for the background is (RGB) 235.235.235.
View 6 RepliesI have a large number of research articles on my laptop (via dropbox). One thing I loved about Windows 7 was that I could just hit the Start button, type a keyword into the search box and a results window would pop up that listed every matching document on my computer. I was also able to customize this so that it always came up in "Details" view.
I can't seem to get that same thing with Windows 10. When I type something into the search field on the task bar, I have to first select that I want it to search my stuff and not the web. After I do that it will only bring up a limited amount of results. I have to click again to see the whole set of hits--and then if I hit "Folder Explorer" at the bottom of the menu, it brings up the results in "Tile" view.
First, I can't figure out how to set the Folder Explorer default view to "Details".
Also, is there a way I search directly into Folder Explorer via the task bar search box?
Next, I don't mind that the taskbar offers me the option of websearch

View 1 RepliesI'm on the latest Insider build. I don't want my PC to sleep nor the monitors to sleep nor the hard drives. Unlike most other issues with sleep and Win10, my problem isn't waking it up but keeping it awake.
Microsoft seem to have scattered the sleep options all over the place. I methodically worked my way round, starting in Settings where I can quite simply select no sleep for both the computer and the monitors. Simple? Nope. I found relevant settings in these places:
Right click desktop and choose display settings
Also from display settings choose advance power settings
Control Panel Power Settings
Change Plan settings
Maybe these are all links to the same settings but in any event whichever route I take, the PC still sleeps or the monitors still turn off or both. Or the screen saver kicks in.
I wonder if the UEFI bios is over-riding Windows? God knows but how can I keep my PC awake overnight
how do i stop or turn off my pc? It stays on all the time

View 2 RepliesI just installed windows 10. No problems installing or logging on. However, after logging on, the desktop keeps flashing and I cant click on any icons. The only thing I can do is use CTRL + ALT + DEL.
I've noticed similar posts saying the same thing that they have NORTON INTERNET Security installed which I have.
At the urging of the popups from MS urging me to upgrade to Windows 10 ads I ran the compatibility test the results of which assured me that my computer was compatible with Windows 10. I then upgraded and started using Windows 10. I had all sorts of problems after that. I contacted the manufacturer of my system (DELL) and they told me that they were not supporting my system with drivers for Windows 10 and that I needed to pay a fee to their tech support for restoring my system back to Windows 7 for a stiff charge. The DELL tech spent hours using Remote Assist and the telephone to restore Windows 7. After restoring Windows 7 I had lost a lot of important documents and spent hours solving all sorts of remaining problems. I now have Windows 7 back and running well but I am constantly subjected to those annoying pop ups urging me to download and install the Windows 10 upgrade. How do I get rid of those?
My current system -

OS: Windows Home Premium 7 SP1
How to keep iTunes from starting upon login. Task Manager and CCleaner both don't have any info on it.
View 9 RepliesOK. So I downloaded and installed Win 10. I found it to be very unstable on my laptop, freezing, going to a black screen, etc. So I rolled back to Win 7. However I now get a popup every 10-15 minutes encouraging me to move to Win 10.
I'm not ready to do that yet (again). I want to wait a few months until they have had a chance to resolve all the issues that have been found. So how do I let them know to stop the popups? I will upgrade when I am ready to do so.
