Since yesterday, I'm unable to switch between user accounts. Button changes from white to blue when hovered, but no response to click.
View 1 RepliesMy windows (hotmail) account was recently hacked, and is irretrievable. I have created a new windows account, but my windows 10 user is associated with that old account that I no longer have access to.
View 2 RepliesI have a touchscreen laptop and 3 user accounts, one of which is for my children (aged 3 and 5).
I would like to be able to make the default mode for my children's account 'tablet mode' (to make it as simple as possible for them to use and access key apps) while keeping the mode as 'normal desktop mode' for my wife and my accounts.
When I change my kids account to 'tablet mode' (using the switch in the 'Action centre') , when i log back into my account, that also then defaults to tablet mode, which is not what I want. Is there any way of setting different modes depending on the user?
I have an Acer (Intel Pentium Windows 10, 64-bit) computer which I bought a few months ago, and created one 'user' (my name - say John) Suddenly this week when I logged in (as John) the only items on the desktop were the default programs installed with the computer; all my files were gone. When opening the browser, or windows media player, all my custom settings were gone and it was as if the programs were being used for the first time. The default program used to open files (e.g. the original program instead of windows media player) had all reverted also. The start button was/is also not working.
I then discovered my files are still there and accessible - to do so I have to right-click on one of the programmes on desktop and 'open file location' then I can use the left column to (through windows explorer) get to C drive then 'Users' then 'John' and I can access everything that way. Also, the keyboard settings have bizarrely changed ie shift + 2 gives the @ sign instead of quotation mark.I have Norton which suggests no virus involved.I didn't have system restore activated. When computer starts it says press DEL to enter setup but nothing happens when I press it.is there anyway to fix this without doing a reset?
I would like to hide desktop, documents, downloads, music, pictures, and videos folder under this PC in windows explorer.
View 1 RepliesIs there anyway to fix the photos app for a specific user account? On my main admin account it works ok. But there was a series of updates to some of the native apps a few days ago, one of those was the photos app. Since then the photos app will not work on my wife and son's user accounts (both standard accounts). Clicking on it brings up nothing. When I went into the store for their own accounts and searched for photos it actually gave an option to install it. I tried that and it went through the motions downloading/acquiring license but it made no difference. Still doesn't launch the app for them.
I don't particulary want to have to go through the process of deleting their accounts and setting them back up (which is time consuming). Creating a new user account does get the user a working photos app (as I did a test). Is there a simple way to do it without potentially breaking the photos app on other accounts (where it is currently working)?
I am aware of powershell fixes but I have read some horrible stories where the code just makes things worse and breaks a lot more especially in the current build of 10586. I'd want any attempted fix to be purely isolated to the affected user's account.
It does seem that the native apps have some pretty bad problems with updating and breaking down. Sometimes I go into the store and look at the check for updates section and see them seemingly stuck in the update process. Sometimes they need a bump to get them going. There seems to be a riskiness to when they are auto updating on my own user account and how it can translate to the other user accounts. In this latest scenario the photos app has been rendered useless for half the users of my computer. Why MS cannot make their own apps easy to uninstall and re-install is beyond me. All other non MS apps are easy to work with and can be uninstalled and reinstalled with comfort. Plus unlike the MS native apps they seem to have no trouble updating themselves!
Can I use switch user option on power option list or on start menu list ?
View 3 RepliesOK I did my windows 10 upgrade now on three machines. two of the machines were single user windows 8.1 prior to upgrade, but one was a Windows 7 Pro machine. I ran the upgrade, but lost my kids user id log on. I had a user id for them set up as a user with no admin rights and no password. I am not opposed to it having a password, now that the kids are teenagers, but I can't figure out how to recreate the user ID so that it is attached to all there saved files. Lots of schoolwork was saved on there ID. I can access it with my admin user account, but want to restore there id.
View 3 RepliesI had user names set up for myself, my daughter and my husband but all have disappeared except the Microsoft account I used when setting up Microsoft 10. I can't find any of the pictures or documents from those files either.
I have already gone to the control panel and checked users and they are not there. All of my photos were under my daughters user name.
Just wondering if this is normal behaviour for windows 10 does not happen all the time just once in a while. I get a little popup like the one when you have a display driver crash. asking to verify user and brings up box to put pin or password in. is this normal
View 4 RepliesSince I've updated to 1511 10586, I'm not able to click in Start Menu, click in my user name and sign out. What happens is that the menu that has to appear when you click on your username does not show anymore since I've updated to 10586 build.
It is posible to Sign out using any of the other options like alt+f4 or win key + X and Shutdow or Sign out.
why this menu is not diplayed anymore?
Prior to upgrading to win 10 I was able to log in to my desktop pc and my laptop using my Microsoft account details , after upgrading I was still able to for a while , one day I tried to log in to my desktop pc and got wrong username or password message , but I am still able to log in on my laptop using these details , after several attempts and no success , I changed the password but the result was the same , I can also log in to my Microsoft account online ( on my laptop ) I have been in touch with Microsoft help but they say its windows problem , haven't been able to get into my desktop pc for the past three weeks , I have thought of removing the desktop pc from the account , but am unsure if that would work to get in to the pc or cause me further problems.
View 2 RepliesAs you all know some people use dial up connection. I am one of them. I would like to click my dialup and automatically connect rather than viewing the " Username and password window " as I have saved UN and PW anyway, Basically, I would like to make it fully automatic, now this is the problem as can be seen in the ATTACHMENT.
It shows, lack of options in windows 10 when it comes to tweaking options for dialup. So, how to do it without GUI. As I downloaded and install the same file to install my dialer, I know there has to be a way to " Remove the tickmark from highlighted fields in the above pic.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, it seems I can't login with a local account. When we install Windows 7, it create a local account with administrative privileges. Usually I name that account LocalAdmin.
I was trying to to the same with Windows 10. I created a local account with the Computer Management MMC Console, named it LocalAdmin and put it in Administrators group.
At the logon screen, I click on "Other user", I enter the username this way MachineNameLocalAdmin and the password.
Everytime Windows 10 throw the error : "The username or password is incorrect. Try again."
How come we can't log on locally anymore???!
I cant login to my acer laptop running on windows 10 os..it keeps asking for user name and password...what can i do?
View 6 RepliesMy brother asked me to upgrade his offline PC from Windows 7 pro to 10. While I had successfully upgraded my 8.1 to 10, and preserved all apps previously installed, I wonder does Windows 10 iso upgrade install default apps like Groove, Movies & Tv, Calculator and other necessary apps on offline PC, or does it only require internet connection to install those apps?
View 2 RepliesI recently upgraded to windows10.at first everything was good, but now I'm facing troubles when my explorer.exe ends on it's own and in the task manager there are two temp files which use almost 95% of my cpu. i guess those temps are causing the trouble..
View 1 RepliesWe are trying to gain permissions access to the Temp file stored in the C Drive on a computer i have clicked properties and then the security tab and clicked the Allow (Full Control) box but when i click to Apply i get an error message saying
failed to enumerate objects in the container
c:windows emp
And we can then still not get access to the temp file, we need to access the temp file as the software we use apparently has a file stored in there it needs to access and without permission to access the file we cant open the software ?
Why I've got a high CPU reading temp of 66 oC . And how to bring it down to a safe temp.
View 14 RepliesThe Storage "Sense" feature may or may not be working properly here...went to delete 890mb of temp files and nothing happened despite it asking me if I was sure I wanted to delete these files and apparently proceeded..but after an hour of waiting the 890mb temp files still remains.
View 19 RepliesI would like to know how to delete temp internet files in win 10.
View 4 RepliesI bought a new Microsoft surface pro 3 It originally had windows 8 installed on it.From the instant that I unboxed it, turned it on, and accessed Wi-Fi connection, there were almost ALWAYS errors when installing certain plugins or programs from the internet. Instead the errors always came with the message can not create temp folder archive etc. or something of the like.
I downloaded Window 10 because it looked comfortable. No change; none of the programs that I download from internet explorer, edge, or google chrome work. No plugins, and sometimes no important pop-ups either.Another problem... which I have a feeling is related... I downloaded Microsoft office too. All of it worked except for Microsoft Word. Every time I try saving something, regardless of which button I click on, there is absolutely no response and none of the files are saved...
I looked into the internet for answers and there weren't that many. One video on youtube seemed to have a solution. It advised that I go into some advanced settings under the properties of my pc and click on environment settings and... do something I don't really understand. The instructions were:
User variables for {userName} and change the TEMP and TMP vars values to "c:/temp or something like that...
This PC was brand new, and yet these errors surfaced from the beginning and I still can't fix it.
After installing Windows 10 - File Explorer is pointing at a temp area instead of where my data is stored on the C drive.
View 1 RepliesI have read I guess all over the net how to delete temp internet files, I have tried everything inc CCleaner nothing seems to work, and I notice that people have written from about august 2015.
Am using a new dell xps 8900 desktop with win 10 pro, am I right to think there is no none workaround unless you reinstall win 10?
