View 1 RepliesSo, I updated to the November update, I have windows 10 mobile running on my ICON... and I can't figure out how to send a text from Cortana on my Surface to other people. I've tried signing up for the fast ring insider view on my surface, and no updates there. Cortana keeps saying she can only send text messages from a phone.
View 6 RepliesI have slowly been fixing the issues I have run into with the Windows 10 upgrade, but I have one issue that continues to persist. The Metro text and icons in the Start Menu, Cortana, Notifications, etc become corrupt.
(Just starting to become corrupt)
(Cortana gone bad!)
It takes a little time (few hours) but eventually they become corrupt and continue to worsen if I let them go. My temporary fix is a reboot or restarting Windows Explorer from the task manager. An update of my graphics drivers seemed to slightly improve the issue (maybe takes longer before they get scrambled). Context menus are not affected...
I really like using the Windows 10 Cortana feature where I can dictate or type a text at my desktop computer and have Cortana send it through my phone. This usually works within a minute of me sending it, but I tried sending three consecutive texts with the feature tonight and not one has been successfully sent after half an hour. Should I wait more or just assume they got lost?
View 1 RepliesFor instance, if I highlight a word in a text-entry field, it's a very bright blue. This is also true in Firefox, Thunderbird, Word, OneNote, various fora, etc. but not in Excel.
Prior to installing Windows 10, the highlight in a text-entry field was either pale grey (on dark backgrounds) or darker grey (on light backgrounds), which is what I'd like to have back.
How to indent Footnote text (between the raised number and the body text) automatically?
I have word 2013, and I would like to insert an indentation 1.5 between the raised number and the text in footnotes (see figure 1)
Figure 1
1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
3xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
When I go to "Footnote Text" style, and then paragraph to do the indentation, it moves the number and the text to the right (see figure 2). But I do not want this.
Figure 2
1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx3xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If I use the hanging option, it only indents the texts below the first line (see figure 3)
Figure 3
1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I have gone to "Footnote Reference" style, but the "paragraph" tab is locked. I cannot enter. How to unlock it? Alternatively, how can I get the results I want (figure 1)....
I got a brand new laptop and updated to windows 10 from windows 8.1.Windows makes me hate windows 10. There were issues like monitor brightness and sound. But now both are fixed after updating the drivers, i guess. I have laptop with 1080p resolution, for reading purposes. 15.6 inches though. So the GUI looks really small when its at 100 display ratio (or whatever its called). So i have increased the ratio to 150% and most of the applications have gone super blurry.
I have looked for fixes online, but all the solutions i have found do not work.I have tried XPE Windows 10 DPI Fix. (Did not work)I have tried putting a cmd file in start up. (Did not work)Now i am rethinking why i bought a windows laptop.
My specs:
Make - ASUS
OS - Windows 10 (Previous 8.1)
Resolution - 1920x1080
Screen size - 15.6 inch
Windows Updates - Up to date
Windows starts up fine but after a while everything goes a bit strange, with large gaps where their should be text and areas greyed out (see jpeg attached).
This happened to me in 32 bit after I upgraded from 7. I assumed that a full hard drive format and reinstall of 64 bit would sort it out but no. Can't find anything on the net which is odd.
I have poor eyesight and have setup high contrast to see things better in windows 10.Also set the font to 10 point bold and tried the 125% setting. In windows 7 I did not have this issue, I used the classic theme, and just set the fonts all bold, no problem. I think I set the DPI also to a larger setting.
But I have a problem setting up personalization settings when it comes to colors now.It does not seem to affect windows apps already installed on the computer, but .3rd party programs mostly. One in mind is the information tab in the AMD Catalyst Drivers for instance. When I open this up the background is white and the text is an unreadable light gold color. In general if I set my theme to a normal without high contrast most of the text in all apps and programs is a light gray color, which I can barely read. I've played with my ASUS monitor settings some and been able to get more contrast.
I have a hovering text on my screen that is coming from another window
( another opened Chrome window)
Why does it happen, and how can i get rid of it without rebooting ?
I have had W10 for three days and it has been sending me mad. The text has been resizing and windows closing randomly. Particularly bad when typing. Finally found the cause. The new feature which allows two finger use on the mouse pad is a nightmare while typing. My wrist or fingers touch the pad briefly and then when another thing touches it then all sorts of things happen. So as I typed the text kept changes size. I found myself changing the text size back every few minutes.
It took me some time to find the problem and disable the two finger ability. It might be nice to have if I am editing pictures but it is very difficult to get too. The control panel is difficult to find. It is not in the menu.
I seem to have spent most of three days disabling everything in W10. I seem to have paid for something which is useless.
My computer recently did a disk check because of a perceived problem. Since then my text has become hard to read and nothing I do in the settings options makes any difference!
View 2 RepliesI just discovered that I, or the computer - just changed colors in my windows 10 setup..In File Explorer - Navigation Pan - view - options, I see black background with colored text. Also, in File Explorer the text is red in the Navigation Pan. Where this color change came from. I certainly don't want this. How can I get plain black print on a white background in File Explorer, ..
View 3 RepliesI just installed Windows 10 mobile (v10586.107) and I wanted to try to send a text message from my desktop through my phone to my friends. I could have sworn that I saw an article on Windows Central that explained how to connect my desktop and mobile through Cortana, but I can't seem to find it now.
Did I imagine this? Is the texting feature not implemented yet?
I was thinking it would be really great if my desktop were to inform me when I received a new message or missed a call since I hardly check my phone.
My Surface Pro alerts me when I miss a phone call. I can sends texts through Cortana, but it doesn't show me the text messages when I receive them on my phone.

View 1 RepliesI recently switched over to Windows 10. Prior to downloading Windows 10, to access my emails I typically entered the word " ixquick" in my search engine and then type "century link home" in the ixquick search box. I click on Century LInk Home which takes me to the Century Link web site. I then click on the "Mail" tab to read, respond to, or create new emails. I have been going through all these steps and through ixquick for additional security.
Now, however, when I do this same process after switching over to Windows 10 I have discovered that I am unable to type any text in new emails, or type any text when responding to emails. I can type text in the Topic Title box with no problem but the system will not allow me type anything in the message box section of the email.
Is it possible that I just have something turned off, or a button that needs to be pushed?
This is a rather strange problem, the search text when searching from the start menu isn't appearing. I can still highlight it though. Also just realized the buttons to the left aren't visible either. URL....

What do I need do to get the Text links highlighted
I have problems when the TEXT PAGE is WHITE. The brightness of the screen hurts my eye. (I am blind in one eye)
Is there anyway to change the colour of the TEXT PAGE to a moderate BLUE or GREY?
What's with some of the blurriness with text on some sites. For example, the main navigation of apple.com is all fuzzy. Doesn't happen in Chrome or Firefox.
View 4 RepliesI have a 10 inch linx tablet which shipped with Windows 10. The font / text size just seems totally wrong especially when browsing in edge.
Whether I'm in tablet mode or not, when I search on Google for example with the tablet in portrait mode, the results are just tiny. I then have to double tap on a blank space for it to format the screen properly so it zooms to fit. It's like the equivalent of using a mobile phone to search the web but using a desktop site instead of it's mobile designed equivalent.
Am I missing something? I have perfect eye site and I'm finding it a strain to use. The resolution is set to what it's supposed to be and the default, anything else yields worse results.
Shouldn't edge browser request the mobile version and more tablet friendly websites when in tablet mode? As I say, it's like browsing every website in desktop mode on a phone.
I just downloaded my 2015 1040a form, clicked on the icon and the page appeared on my computer screen. However, I'm unable to enter any text. When I click on a box there is a arrow...no cursor. What is causing this to happen?

View 5 RepliesI have an HP spectre laptop with a 2560 x 1440 display on a 13" screen. Needless to say on the default settings, all the text is very very small.
So. under Windows 8.1, I was able to enlarge everything to 150% and then adjust the menu bars and other text to suit my eyes.
I then upgraded to Windows 10. And the ability to adjust the menu bars is now greyed out.
What do I have to do to re-enable it?
