few days ago I installed Windows 10 pro from Windows 7 ultimate. Since installation of Windows 10 my keyboard and mouse remain powered after shut down PC(lights on). I have never had this issue before on W7.
I recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:
Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown
The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.
I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.
I'm using an Intel Compute Stick as a dedicated processor to remote-control some portable audio equipment. To assist portability, the power supplies for all the gear are to a single plug and it's all made to be turned off by simply "pulling the plug" (i.e. no shutdown process). The Compute Stick basically being a fully functional Windows 10 device, it is NOT made to be powered down by simply "pulling the plug."
It's somewhat annoying to have to reach in the rack to power up/down the Stick before I can move it, doubly annoying to have to sit there and wait for it to shutdown, especially if it *decides* it feels like doing some other kind of business before it gets around to my shutdown request. The annoyance factor is increased as there's no attached screen or HIDs to give confirmation that the shutdown request is pending.
So, my question is this: Is there any way to configure the Stick PC in a way that ensures it avoids the adverse effects of being powered down without a shutdown sequence?
I've installed Windows 10 just fine, with the latest Nvidia Win 10 driver, however when I reboot my system nothing works, not the start menu, not the apps, they do nothing, can't shut down except for a hard shutdown, after the hard shutdown the start menu and apps work fine until the next shutdown,
Just upgraded (via Windows Update) from Win 7 Pro to Windows 10.Upgrade generally went smoothly, but....My PC now shuts down very slowly and oddly. The screen and keyboard turn off normally, in a few seconds, but the system box (fans, etc.) remain on for about 2-3 minutes longer. What the system is doing while this is going on!
I have Dell 15-3521 and it was working perfectly with no issues like this, now as the new update of Windows 10 is automatically installed, now after upgrading to Windows 10 whenever i shutdown my laptop it automatically turns itself ON. It is happening after upgrading to Windows 10. Whenever i shut it down it turn it self on after some time. Their is no task in Task Management which could turn it ON.
When I change the power management to never turn the screen off on my desktop the setting is back to 15 minutes when the Pc is restarted. On my laptop I don't have this problem and I can't find a setting in the BIOS which can be the cause?
Can get start screen with girl jogging. However often the Windows 10 icon at bottom left hand corner does not respond. If I click on Explorer icon get message "Explorer.EXE element not found". Cannot turn my laptop off except by holding down power button which causes other problems.
Every time I try to put put my laptop to sleep, hibernate, restart it or shutdown, it stalls for about 10 minutes before giving me a Driver Power State Failure.
Having installed "WhoCrashed" and "Windbg", I was able to determine it was related to "ntkrnlmp.exe", "ndis.sys", "raspppoe.sys" and a vpn driver at one point or another. I "believe" I managed to uninstall the offending vpn driver but of course still overall have the same issue.
This appeared to occur while trying to do a windows update last week but I can't be sure. I presume, there is a out of date or corrupt driver but just can't seem to determine which one.
I am having an issue with the Windows 10 machines that I have installed thus far. I do not use a screen saver, but use the power settings to turn off the display after a certain period of time. When the display goes off, it forces me to authenticate to get back on the computer. I have tried to shut off the screensaver, check, than uncheck the box for "On resume, display logon screen". No matter what I do, I cannot get this to NOT make me authenticate when reawakening the display.
I do run a domain at my house for background info. Been working on this for a few days now with no real progress.
since I upgraded the computer to Windows 10, when I want to turn off my PC, the screen turn off, but the light on the power button stays on. the computer turns off completely.
while if I want to put my computer on standby, the computer will not turn on more, I am forced to turn off the computer by holding the power button press.
I recently bought a toshiba satellite c-55 laptop, as soon as i got it i upgraded to windows ten. i do not know if the usb ports worked before my upgrade, but they do not work now. i tried to download drivers but nothing has worked.
I know i have power to the usb's because my usb hub lights up when i plug it in. the device manager says the usb's are working but they are not. Is there a way to see if it is a hardware problem?
I have 3 flash drives that, for some reason, no longer function regardless of which USB port they are attached to. They display as if they are ready but indicate "not responding" as soon as I try to access them. I see message "not migrating" under Events in their properties. This is a problem that has just arisen. I've been running Windows 10 since official release.
So I have a Lenovo touchscreen but i don't have the touchscreen part, I was using it but then it crashed, and now it wont accept USB drives, and my keyboard and mouse install into the computer via USB what do i do.
After upgrading to windows 10, my mobo USBs will all disable... Why is this happening and how do I fix it? this makes my wifi mouse and keyboard stop working...
So I got a new asus M5a97 for a new socket and whatnot and now when I shut down there are 2 issues (title bar not long enough for both). The first is whenever you shut it down it leaves all usb ports powered.
The second is that every second time you try to boot it goes to the asus screen where there's meant to be the little circle made of dots spinning and no circle appears nothing happens. Hardware all seems fine so not sure what needs changing.
Does the new Maps app being built for the phone and PC features voice turn-by-turn navigation? I know the current Maps app does not. You need to use Here Drive or another third party app for voice navigation.
I am having problems with me Mouse and key board, on boot up they will turn on for about 20 seconds then turn off. Then a error comes up,inaccessible_ boot_drive. But if I restart my pc the mouse and keyboard will do the same thing but instead of the error I get, choose keyboard layout, and a list of options but I cant choose them because the mouse isn't working. This all started happening after I upgraded my power supple but I when I put my old power supple in I had the same problem. I have windows 10and I have tried using different keyboards and different usb ports.
I followed Brink's tutorial here: Shut Down Computer in Windows 10 And I saw that there are 2 ways to fully shutdown Windows through cmd: /s and /p. What is the difference between these 2, if both of them are said to perform a full shutdown?
This is something that recently just started happening. I click on the start button and click Shutdown and everything seems to go normally and the monitor goes black but the computer will not shutdown. The activity light continues to flash and after a few mins my PC just boots back up, almost like it was doing a reboot.
I am in a similar situation. Upgraded a self build PC from Windows 7 to 10. Now, I am unable to shutdown. I have turned off the Fast Startup, but it still reboots when I hit 'Shutdown'
when I shutdown win 10 it goes through the shutdown process the screen goes off but the PC keeps running for 3 to 5 minutes it didn't do this before it has just started in the last week.
Upgraded from Win 7 which ran as normal. But now under Win 10 Pro, both "Restart" and "Shutdown" produce a restart.I have reflashed to the last BIOS just in case but to no avail.
