View 1 RepliesI have come to the conclusion W10 is about a year away from a solid product. I think we are all part of Gamma Testing. Here is one of several problems that should not be occurring.
I set the background picture to the beach scene. It stayed there for about 3 hours. Then the background went to a solid black. If I go back to Background Preview the proper picture is previewed. I can change the solid color to any color by switching to Solid Color and choosing any of the color picks, but no matter how many times I try, reboot, cuss at the screen, I cannot get the background picture to display properly. I can always set the background choice to it, and it shows in the preview, but not as the actual background.
The picture choice also shows in Themes when I look there. Everyplace but where I want it. On my screen as a background.
Doing some searching, it appears this problem dates back to W8.
With the latest build 10074 there doesn't appear to be a way to use two different background pictures on two monitors. This feature has been available since Windows 7, perhaps earlier. I have provided that information to Microsoft.
Using a horizontal inversion on one picture makes a nice desktop background.
I have a tablet, a laptop and a desktop computer all running Windows 10. I log on to each with my Microsoft account. Each has all of its settings set to sync yet I have a different background picture on each device. Shouldn't I have the same background on each one in these circumstances? And if so, what determines which background takes precedence?
Since writing this I have found my laptop has suddenly changed the background to match with the desktop computer, so now it is only the tablet that is out of sync.
Oh, now the tablet has synced as well. I assume, then, that there must be some sort of delay before syncing takes place. But I still wonder what determines which background takes precedence.
I have set up my background to display slideshow. There appears to be no save button on this page. Every time I reboot the computer I find the slideshow has been changed back to "picture" mode.
View 9 RepliesWhen I go into Settings and set the Background picture/slideshow, I always see letters on the sample screen, like 'Aa' and 'Sample Text'. What can you do with that? I don't find any explanations anywhere.

View 1 RepliesHaving difficulty adding a picture / wallpaper to the lock screen. I have just set up windows 10 screen saver and I see you can change the lock screen back ground picture.
I have tried adding either one of the windows wallpapers or one of my own pictures but I can't find any option to save the image. on closing the window & returning to the lock screen the picture does not appear to save and returns to the standard blue background with date and time.
I can't find any option to save the image as a lock screen wallpaper.
Why the Windows 10 picture album I set as my background slideshow disappears when I shut down my computer, and I have to reload it every time I turn the machine on and sign in? Is this yet another glitch in the "wonderful" Windows 10?
View 2 Replieshow to change the desktop background (which is curiously located in a completely different menu outside of the control panel!) and tried to choose a local folder with pictures in it, Windows somehow thinks the folder is empty.
Now, when I go to that folder in Explorer, it's full of pictures. They are all jpgs and are the same pictures that populate my synced theme, just more of them than are allowed to fit in a synced theme. I can't understand why this folder is coming up empty when choosing a slideshow when it has tons of pictures.
I am having problems changing my profile picture, I have looked around the internet and tried everything I could, When i try to change it I get an error saying "Setting the account picture failed. Please try again." I also cant see it on the lock screen everytime i reboot it.
View 5 RepliesAs a keen flickr member I have a lot of photographs on my computer. These are all neatly allocated to different files, depending upon a variety of variables. So far....all is well.
Yesterday my neighbour kindly upgraded me to Windows 10. Everything seemed fine.
Today I tried to take 4 photographs off my camera and load them up to my computer. Initially I got a dialogue box asking me what I would like to do in future when I plugged in my camera - I said "upload the pix to my computer".
Previously they have always arrived on my desktop in a separate file. I would then edit them, afterwards splitting them up into different files, depending on what I want to do with them.
Anyway, this morning, after taken 4 photographs, I plugged in my camera. I then get a message saying "We found 880 photos. Would you like to import them into your picture folder". And the only alternatives given were IMPORT or CANCEL.
I do NOT want all my pix jumbled together in a picture folder. I want them all neatly organized into the folders I have set up.
Is there any way I can get rid of this 'Picture folder' and go back to using my existing folders (they are all still there, and all still containing the photographs they should rightfully contain.)
My windows 10 Alienware laptop randomly blue screened and its not to shocking seeing, as all our windows 10 computers seem to bluescreen like its going out of style. but I googled the error tag and proceeded to fix it. The error was a Nvidia driver outdated and I then updated.
But I realized my background changed and to my horror was the same background as my primary PC (desktop gaming rig) There are a few ways the laptop and the desktop are connected Steam Geforce etc/Im a little concerned because I'm almost positive I have never once downloaded the same wallpaper on this laptop. and why it would steal my desktops wallpaper and replace it after BSOD I dont understand.
the BSOD was "System Thread Exception Not Handled".Here is the first set of my dxdiag.txt right after the bluescreen. too much text for an upload site

View 2 RepliesI am trying to boot my laptop that will not boot windows 7 due to some kind of corruption.
Ive downloaded the ISO of windows 10 and manged to install it onto another laptop using a USB but not with personal files kept.
When I select the option to install windows 10 but to "keep all personal files and settings" it brings up a message:
Compatibility report
The computer started using the Windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that windows starts normally. Then, Insert the installation media and restart the upgrade.
My question is how can I do the above when I need to select the option to boot from USB whilst my computer is booting?
I was trying to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10 and "Keep personal files only" grayed out. I dont want to do a clean install.
View 1 RepliesHave HP Pavilion Dv5 running windows 10, I purchased a new HP Envy with Win 10 installed.I want to give DV5 to my step-daughter with Win 10 on it, and remove me from laptop and Win 10 completely. I have files stored on flash drives and OneDrive and have a Microsoft Account.
If I do a total reboot of Win 10 and have her as Administrator and get a Microsoft account, that should work? My Microsoft Account and OneDrive will be able to link with new Envy laptop and with installed Win 10?
I wanna upgrade my Windows 7 PC directly using the Media Creation Tool, keeping the personal files only. Is it possible to specify which folders to keep?
At minimum, I would like to remove the 'AppData' folder to remove old cache and program files, but I'm still not sure if this is a good idea. The only folder I want to keep intact is my very large 'Dropbox' folder.
I considered choosing the "Nothing" option, except I don't want to re-download my entire Dropbox and put unnecessary stress on this 7yr old hard drive.
I cannot get personal accountz to work in public documents it will work for the user who created it but freezes for other user, I need this for myself and my wife to be able to use when logged into our accounts. This work just fine on windows7 but will not work on windows10.
View 2 RepliesIn Windows 8.1 there was an option to delete personal info from live tiles, this was also possible on previous Windows 10 builds but I can't find it. This was useful for when inevitably something breaks on the start screen and we could 'refresh' all the tiles. My Mail App is stuck showing 1 unread message because I reimaged back but backed up with that 1 message unread.
View 2 RepliesIt's not much of an issue just a personal preference, however how would I go about to changing my user folder name?
View 5 RepliesMy friend has been using AutoCAD on fairly new Windows 10 install. No problems till today when he got an error stating he needed to reinstall the OS. I didn't see the error before he shut down. To be safe he pulled his hard drive and asked me to backup his personal files using a USB enclosure, before reinstalling OS.No problem right? I've done this for other people many times in older OSs, but this is the first time I've seen Windows 10 file structure. I plugged in the drive and found that I can't access files in the OS partition. I can't crack it. Basically, it can't get the rights to see files there. I actually plugged the enclosure into an old XP computer I had laying around and was able to see some folders and files, but no personal files. where his files are located on the drive and how I can access them?

View 4 RepliesMy HP pavilion dv6000 is running windows 10 currently the 1511 version. Pc is passworded and associated with Microsoft account. Somehow it developed fault that resulted to spark on the board resulting to system unable to power on. I have a new system but I need to transfer my files from the old laptop's hard drive so I used the socket that connects internal hard drive to another laptop as external hard drive via USB. it FAILED to install the hardware. It installs as unknown in device manager. I have tried on other sockets and PCs still noticed the same thing. Hard drive is healthy..
I am almost certain this has to do with windows 10 attempts to prevent me from losing my files to theft perhaps my hard drive was stolen, something that is obtainable in earlier versions of windows. However, that's just my guess.
Meanwhile I have NOT tried connecting the hard drive via IDE socket to try booting windows 10 on another laptop BUT I tried booting it as OS on external hard drive & it is not read by the laptop
How to access the hard drive and get my files as the spoiled laptop shows no sign of coming up soon.
