I've tried the obvious things such as restarting my computer and making sure I have all Windows updates. My start menu and everything else seems to work normally. I have just plugged in a second monitor to my PC, the resolution of both monitors are as recommended (1) is 1366 x 768 and the other (2) which is the main display is 1920 x 1080 - I would like to increase the size of the font, task bar icons etc on my main display (2) but when I go to the "advanced sizing of text and other items" and then to the "Change only the text size" I cannot select specific items as this part is grayed out and I cant click on it. Could it be because I am trying to change something on the (2) monitor (even though it is ticked as my main display)?
View 1 RepliesI have slowly been fixing the issues I have run into with the Windows 10 upgrade, but I have one issue that continues to persist. The Metro text and icons in the Start Menu, Cortana, Notifications, etc become corrupt.

It takes a little time (few hours) but eventually they become corrupt and continue to worsen if I let them go. My temporary fix is a reboot or restarting Windows Explorer from the task manager. An update of my graphics drivers seemed to slightly improve the issue (maybe takes longer before they get scrambled). Context menus are not affected...
Text on the desktop icons is hard to read. When I open anything else, like Chrome, Outlook, etc., the text is so light and broken that it is unreadable. I have a 2006 17" Dell monitor and an emachines desktop. Everything was sharp and clear on Windows 7.
View 7 RepliesSo after my computer randomly restarting itself my desktop items have gone crazy. The text is miniscule, the alignment is insane and the (for lack of a better word) hitboxes are whacked out like so:
And then I go to access my Control Panel, no luck. Doesn't open.
I then go into Display Settings/Advanced Display Settings try clicking "Advanced sizing of text and other items", again nothing. Doesn't even change screens.
I then go to Windows Update and an update is "Downloading" but stuck at 0% permanently.
*EDIT* I am using bootcamp on a MacBook Pro
OK, so the latest of my problems with Win10, I just got done repairing a Winsock file missing issue, after the reboot the "volume" icon doesn't appear at bottom right any more. Volume works fine, and I can adjust it elsewhere, but it will not display. System settings won't let me switch it on. Battery icon and external drive icons are gone too. I don't want to just keep rebooting on the off chance that all the problems will solve themselves.
Why Win10 programmers thought this OS is good. It's a complete crock. Random problems are pretty literally non-stop. I assumed it was supposed to be an improvement from Win7.

I've had windows 10 for some time now, since the upgrade from windows 7 became available.Recently I've started having some issues, the icons on the desktop don't display and many other icons won't display. I've rebuilt the icon cache.db manually around 4 times so far but it keeps damaging itself somehow. Also many of the windows features like the control panel for example won't display. Generally the disk speed seems to slowing as well, for example it can take up to 2 minutes for all of the items of a specific folder to be displayed if I route straight to it via command prompt or the file path bar. my HDD may potentially be dying.

Ram: 3x4gb @ 1660Hz 1x2gb @ 1660hz

After I did the upgrade, the font of my system are just horrible. They are not as sharp as before, the best way to describe it, is that they look like they where printed with a misaligned print head, and I can't seem to find a way to fix it.

View 1 RepliesI have used the Office XP shortcut bar with every windows version up to windows 7 without problems. When I upgraded to Windows 10, the Icons only show a ? and the program associated with the icon will only execute if I right click on the icon and click either open or run as administrator. The program name associated with the icon will display when I hover over the icon.
Is there any fix for displaying the actual icon picture? I have more programs that I use daily than would fit on the task bar. I don't want to clutter my desktop with icons. The shortcut bar allows me to organize my program icons in different task bars so I would like to continue using it.
I'm trying to get my small taskbar to display both time and date, like the regular big taskbar. By default, Windows displays time and date on the taskbar in bottom-right corner. But if you go into taskbar's properties and select the option to show smaller icons, the taskbar becomes a little bit smaller (which is great) and there's no room for date to be displayed (which is not great at all).
I found a few "solutions" for Windows 7, like using some third-party apps to override the default one (but there's all kinds of issues with them), or creating a new toolbar pointing to a folder that is being renamed everyday via schedule (ridiculous!) and so on.Back when I was using Windows 7, I found a dark theme that actually solved this problem (google "cryeR deviantart windows 7 basic black theme"). You had to take ownership and replace the Aero.msstyles file, and then patch some stuff with provided utility. Kinda complicated, but it worked.Now I'm on Windows 10, and I can't find anything that would work. I really like the smaller taskbar, but I would also like to see the date.
I am having repeated problems with text and folders sizes. I had set them up to suit me a while ago, but every now and then they change, apparently by themselves - perhaps after an upgrade? I certainly don't remember making any changes myself.
At the moment the folders I have on my home screen are very small and bunched up into the top left hand corner of the screen. And the text labels to the folders are almost too small for my tired old eyes to read.
How do I get the folders to be bigger, the same size as I had them in Windows 7? And how to I get the text labels to be the same size as they were before? I already have text size set to 175%.
Also, when I open a folder or list contents in some programs the text looks fainter than it should, and has a strange look to it - certainly not the same as when I was running Windows 7; it's much poorer.
For instance, if I highlight a word in a text-entry field, it's a very bright blue. This is also true in Firefox, Thunderbird, Word, OneNote, various fora, etc. but not in Excel.
Prior to installing Windows 10, the highlight in a text-entry field was either pale grey (on dark backgrounds) or darker grey (on light backgrounds), which is what I'd like to have back.
How to indent Footnote text (between the raised number and the body text) automatically?
I have word 2013, and I would like to insert an indentation 1.5 between the raised number and the text in footnotes (see figure 1)

When I go to "Footnote Text" style, and then paragraph to do the indentation, it moves the number and the text to the right (see figure 2). But I do not want this.

If I use the hanging option, it only indents the texts below the first line (see figure 3)

I have gone to "Footnote Reference" style, but the "paragraph" tab is locked. I cannot enter. How to unlock it? Alternatively, how can I get the results I want (figure 1)....
I used to run a *.Bat file that cleared out old event viewer reports in W7 64, is there an equivalent file/utility that I can run for W10 64 ?

I'm just wondering whether those steps are still valid, and, if so, does clearing the pagefile work as advertised?
When I first upgraded to Win 10 I had no problem but now outgoing messages stay in my Outbox for absolutely ages. I have recently gone to fibre broadband and have no problems receiving emails.
View 2 RepliesI would like to clear my Reliability history after doing some program testing that generated a lot of errors. I cleared out all of the Event logs, but a number of errors are still showing in the Reliability history.
There was a tutorial in the Windows 7 forums as well as a similar Win 7 solution with a batch file at the Windows Club.
It appears that the files used to be stored in the ProgramdataMicrosoftRAC folder, which doesn't seem to exist for Windows 10.
make the "Clear All Event Viewer Logs using a BAT file" self starting such as making it run automatically on a daily basis or show me what code I would need to add to it to do that for me. I would just love to clear out the 10016s and 7031s codes daily.

I'm having some issues with my PC, (not bad, resolved easily from just a clean install) and i'm going to use the windows media creation tool to do a fresh install of windows on my drive. Now my PC came with windows 8.1 pre-installed, but since i HAVE upgraded to windows 10 already, it won't download windows 8.1 right? Also, since i already have windows and everything working on this drive, will i need to do a factory restore before using the media creation tool, or does it clear everything on the drive anyway when i use the creation tool?

I imported all my Favorites but now realize I have far too many collected over the years and half of them are obsolete! Rather than painstakingly pruning them, I want to wipe the whole lot (just from Edge) and then repopulate Favorites manually.
(Also, can you not simply drag and drop from the Address Bar into the Favorites Bar as you can on Chrome?
