View 1 RepliesSo I have a 120Gb SSD running Windows 7, and a 1Tb HDD with all my data such as programs and games. When Windows 10 is released, I want to be able to completely replace my Windows 7 with Windows 10, so basically just wipe the SSD and then install Windows 10 (or upgrade). My question, is will the data on my other hard drive just work like it does now?
Once I've upgraded to Windows 10, will it literally just still work? I don't want to have to reinstall all my programs, or start all my games again (the ones with locally installed data). Also, I do have a couple of programs stored on my SSD that would obviously need to be moved to my HDD to avoid being removed when I wipe it, so can I just move the whole install directory? Or is it more complicated?
I want to try Windows 10, but I fear that all of my files will be gone.
View 5 Replieson a no-problem notebook of a Relative, win ran an update last night at 4 and came up with this:Most App-Links are gone, Apps still there. But Firefox, Outlook and others seem completely reset as if freshly installed, no accounts set f.e.Win demands hardware driver installation for Wifi. And a bunch of personal files on the Desktop are gone.
View 1 RepliesIS hiding your Desktop app icons from Windows 7 along with pictures a hidden feature in 10? I have installed Windows 10 Pro thru my upgrade and all of my Desktop app icons and pictures/videos were all hidden. I just went into folder options and unhid everything. Wasn't sure if this was normal behavior after an upgrade?

View 2 RepliesI purchased a laptop a while ago and it came with windows 10 home. I'd like to upgrade to Windows 10 pro, but instead of paying for an upgrade in the windows store I'd rather use the unused copy of windows 7 ultimate that i already own since you get w10 pro when upgrading from w7 ultimate. All my data is on the C drive so how would I go about backing it up so I can restore it on the new OS? Also would I lose all the drivers and programs for the laptops features such as the webcam, keyboard backlight, etc?
View 5 RepliesSo I managed to break my partition table, but I was able to recover my entire C: drive and copy every file and folder to an external drive. My question now becomes, is there anyway to, when I reinstall Windows, to restore from that backup (since it's just a data backup of files and folders, not a system image)? Would booting into linux (so that partition isn't in use by Windows) and simply copy-past-overwriting the old files effectively give me my system back?
View 3 RepliesI'm having an intermittent occurrence of Microsoft Windows Error Reporting application popping up after loading Windows 10, with a message that says "Windows Data Protect has stopped working."
This message hangs for a minute or two, then goes away. I cannot tell if the problem is being fixed automatically, or if it is just going away.
What is Windows Data Protect, and why does it keep crashing?
Many users of new "windows 10 Technical Preview for Phones" are unable to turn off mobile data..... So here is the simple solution:
1] go to setting>Extras>access point
2] create a new access point ( insert anything in fields
3] Set it as active
whenever you want to turn on data go to access point n choose working (default) access point ...
I am having trouble accessing MS app store and also updating office 2016 through any of the office applications.
My question is, will win 10 apps and office 2016 default update through windows update?
Well only 'View installed updates' works. (the earliest shows only one of 21 November - I thought November had a big update. no?)Clicking these does nothing:-
Win Update Elevated Installer
Win Update settings
Advanced Win Updates options
Check for Updates
As I updated via this on another computer yesterday with no problem (except updating 4 items took over 4 hours!!) what can be my present glitch be?
On Window 8.1. Boosted the install which a lot of people are doing by clearing SoftwareDistribution/Download and running the cmd prompt.
Downloaded the Windows 10 update, as soon as the Preparing to Install dialogue was done, the computer restart, trying to install a normal Windows 8.1 update instead.
Once I am booted up again, I get this error [URL] .... and try the fix.
Once I try and redownload the update again, it skips to 100%, then fails the update with the error 80070643 being reported.
It is telling me to reset [ service registration ] as mine is missing .
View 3 RepliesA long time ago I got a windows key through my workplace which I used on my home computer.. I know it's a valid key as I ran the genuine software test.
I also have Service pack one and it says that I have windows 7 professional -- so I know it's not enterprise.
But still I don't have any update popups.. and when I tried to run the manual installer I just got a "something happened 0x80070002 - 0x20016" and the program shuts down.what's wrong?
I just installed the last Win 10 update. Windows is hang. Desktop will appear, but no file can be access,

Is there a way to get Windows Update as a feed (xml, rss) - so I know which updates are coming or know about them on day 1 release!
I know about the MS technet website for the security updates, but I'm on about general updates.
So after a stressful day at school I got home anxiously waiting to get on my computer, only to find out that after a recent update my computer has completely stopped responding. Now in the first few hours of dealing with this problem I was able to access the Windows repair options, only to find out that all of them failed. I was unable to do a system restore, nor diagnose my computer or even nuke it.
Later on things eventually got worse because now I'm not even able to access the options to fix my computer anymore or even downgrade to Windows 8.1. All that pops up after my computer starts up is "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system.
Windows Update stuck at 9%

View 1 RepliesI no longer have a Windows update app to check for updates as I typically do. When I type in 'Windows Update' in the Search the web and Windows, the App always popped up for me to select it to check updates. It is no longer there? Using Windows 10 Pro 64bit, desktop, fresh install I did about a month ago.
