Have been getting incorrect security notifications (Webroot & Defender not enabled) several times daily on two different Win10/64 PCs. How to suppress these annoying items?

View 1 RepliesI was performing a File Cleanup operation and it included something call Windows Defender. I always click to delete everything it displays. So I did and it deleted Windows Defender. I have since learned what it is and want to reinstall. I do not understand why Microsoft would allow you to delete a part of the system from the file cleanup screen? But it did. How can I reinstall?
View 2 RepliesI have selected certain file types / folders and locations in Windows Defender on Windows 10 that were added to the exclusions lists...
Previously I could go to Windows Defender and see what files, folders or extensions I had excluded but now they have disappeared....
All I see is the add buttons which work as intended when I want to add a folder etc etc.... But then they are not listed anywhere so that I can remember what I have excluded or not....
How to get that visible again, is there a setting in the registry that needs to be fixed?
This is what I should see where, below the red arrows I should see the excluded files/folders including their path etc etc [see image below]
but I see nothing..
Yet if i go to the registry as indicated below...

I have to say that windows defender is excluding folders/files and etc etc, that I have selected during its scans, but I cant see the excluded items in the Windows Defender as per image of my Exclusions section below...
With Windows 7 my security scan took less than an hour. With Windows 10 it takes 3 hours. What's the deal?

View 1 RepliesThe disk drive is physically working and connected properly to the motherboard. I can open it, put in a disk, see the light flashing and hear it humming. But cds/dvds do not run despite autoplay being enabled. There is no icon for the drive in explorer, but it does appear in device manager as SlimType DVD A DS8A5SH (double listing).

I know its a rule of thumb to leave it disabled if running an SSD, but I'm confused since I have both an SSD [ C: ] ( which serves as my boot drive ) and an HDD [ D: ] where I store the rest of my files.
Since there is no option to disable it only for one drive ( Which if there was i would disable it only for the SSD ) Should I just disable it altogether? or would that be a bad idea. Or is there any way I can disable it only for the SSD [ C: ]
I downloaded and installed Win10 and I was able to use my computer normally. Ran CCCleaner. Now, after entering the same password I've used for years, the screen keeps saying it is incorrect. I changed passwords and retried with no luck. So my computer is useless as I can't get to my desktop to make any security changes or uninstall Win10.
how to get a restore disk to reinstall (would this even work?) I'd like my desktop computer back !
Is there a reason system restore is not enabled as default? Not needed any more/ is there now a better alternative ?
View 2 RepliesI have the following problems With the fast start up enabled only
1. The screen never appears past the post bios screen.
2.Wifi won't connect. I have to manually disable the wireless adapter and then enable it.
If the fast start up is disabled then this won't occur.
Just done a clean install of Windows 10 build 10240 with UK regional settings and Cortana won't enable.
Just says Cortana is not support in my region and language and won't let me enable.
My system time is correct (Central Time Zone + Daylight Savings Time). Cortana is displaying UTC -4 - it should be UTC -5. How do I correct?
View 3 RepliesI mean this happens every one or two shutdowns and startups.What happens is when I try to shutdown, Windows appears to have shutdown. Screen is not detecting anything (Because technically nothing is running) but the only difference is, my entire computer is still running. I am not sure how this is possible but I can confirm this is a Windows 10 unique problem.And now consecutively, after this 'incorrect' shutdown. When I try to boot up, when it gets to the Windows loading spinning beads screen, the computer shut's down abruptly. And I have to boot it up again. This sort of things happens every few cycles and is 100% identical to the last one.I have tried a clean windows 10 install (Formatted my SSD) and the EXACT same thing occurs.I also cannot update to the latest update as it gets to a certain percentage, around 20% and restarts with a message saying it couldn't complete the update and it is undoing changes.
All the outlined problems aren't critical and are definitely unique to my computer. Because I have Windows 10 on my other machines, and they can update and do everything just fine thus far.

I have Windows 10 Home installed and activated (as Windows to Go) on an external Samsung T1 SSD. I enabled hibernation per the instructions here: Hibernate - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums. However, every time I attempt to hibernate, the screen goes black but the PC never powers off and Windows never successfully hibernates. (Hibernation works perfectly on the Windows 7 installation on the internal SSD.)

Windows 10 OneDrive seems to only want to operate as your primary file storage repository with your PC being a potential backup for OneDrive. I do not want to use it in that manner. How do I use OneDrive to simply copy selected files and folders from my PC to OneDrive without any Syncing enabled? If I deselect 'Sync files and folders' in OneDrive settings, it seems to disable the OneDrive link in File Explorer. Ideally I would like to have a backup setup to sync OneDrive with my PC so that OneDrive mirrors my PC...not the other way around. how to copy files from PC to OneDrive using File Explorer.
View 3 Repliesi had secure boot up and running on my windows 8.1 machine after a clean install, but now since Microsoft upgraded me to windows 10 it seems as my secure boot is off again, but it's enabled in my bios is so weird, it's enabled in bios but off in windows 10? Is not much of a big deal to me in a since but just wondering why it still shows as on in bios but off in windows 10.
View 9 RepliesI can not access the "open with" menu..it's dimmed or not enabled in all the files.. Even though i can open the files with any application if i tried the menu at the top in the ribbon.
I have tried removing it from the registry and add it back again but that didn't fix it...
After I activate my guest account with "net user guest /activate:yes" at the dos command prompt, the guest desktop pulsates several time a second between the desktop and then back to a black screen. It is as if the desktop continually attempts to get initialized but continually fails to do so. We bought a new laptop with Windows 10 for my daughter and flash player will not work. It is enabled and says it is installed but will not work on any site. A real problem as pretty much all the sites my daughter wants to use needs flash player! I know this is not an isolated problem to us as I've seen other posts elsewhere - but no resolution as yet.

I just upgrade after purchasing this laptop 2 days ago. After the first restart of the successful upgrade I can't log in. I'm using the right password and have changed it and used that with no success. I can't do anything with this computer and like I said just bought it and need it for work.
So, my Windows 10 tech preview, starting with build something, says 'You need to verify your identity' under "Accounts". When I try to do that, it pops up with a window saying "the parameter is incorrect". This makes services like mail, onedrive, albums and so on unusable since I am not authenticated

View 1 RepliesSince installing Windows 10 I've had a problem with System Restore. As you can see from the attached graphic, I can access the System Restore panel but System Restore for the Windows drive is turned off (orange box) and the means of restoring to an earlier restore point as well as Create are greyed out.
The ONLY thing the window allows me to do is to go to the Configure panel. When I get there I find that System Protection is disabled and I cannot turn it on. However, my system IS using some space (blue box) although I have a sneaky suspicion that has not changed since I installed W10.
My question therefore is really: how do I enable System Restore?
After writing the above I did a search in the registry for System Restore but there were only about six or seven references. I also had a quick look at Services and noticed that VSS was stopped. Following a search which revealed that System Restore might depend on it I started it. I then signed out and then back in again but I still can't get System Restore enabled.
