Install Error 0x80300024 On Secondary HDD

Jul 6, 2015

I am trying to install the latest Windows 10 Technical Preview build (64-Bit) on my secondary HDD. I have Windows 8.1 Pro (64-Bit) installed on an SSD. I have a 1 TB Seagate HDD that I use to store games. I made a new 146GB partition on that HDD where I want to install W10. Each time I try I get the error 0x80300024. I've tried reformatting, I've tried a smaller partition that left extra space on the hard drive, etc. I'm installing using a bootable USB 3.0 flashdrive.

Main SDD Won't Boot Without Secondary HDD

Aug 12, 2015

I wanted to make an image of my machine since upgrading to Windows 10 and saw it kept on including my secondary drive (which has over 600 gigs of movies). I am not able to uncheck it.

I figured what the hell and disconnected the drive. My box will not boot without the drive!

I just built this machine back in December and I used a 500GB SSD for my main drive, while I have 2 regular HDD's for storage and movies.

I turned off, "hide protected operating system files" and found the folders "Boot, Recovery, System Volume information and $Recycle Bin" all showing up!

how this drive got dragged into the install, but I certainly do not want my main drive depending on it to boot.

I don't want to change ownership of the files and delete then manually either since I have a strong feeling it will kill my system.

how to go about "unlinking" these 2 drives?

Lagging On Secondary Drive?

Oct 22, 2015

Windows recognizes my secondary drive, a Western Digital, SATA WD5000AAKS 500 gig. However, anytime I access it the system lags, files freeze and it acts like it's being re-cataloged. I never had this problem prior to Windows 10, and my other computers have no problem accessing the secondary drive through the Home Group.

Secondary OS To Choose At Startup

Nov 28, 2015

During startup of Win 10, the options given to proceed with include Windows 10 and System Restore.
I now have Win 10 on one of my laptop's internal 2.5" HDD. And I've restored to Win 7 (home premium) on my other 2.5" HDD that sometimes is temporarily in the bay of the internal drive that Win 10 is now running on.

With one of those drives in the 2.5" usb HDD enclosure, how can give the Win 10 startup window an optional link that can open and run Win 7 of the plugged in enclosure. IOW, can the startup screen be tweaked so that I can avoid temporarily putting the Win 7 HDD in the internal bay in place of the 2.5" drive that Win 10 runs on (to run Win 7 on the external drive)?

Secondary Storage Setup

Aug 17, 2015

I just did a fresh install of windows 10, and I have decided to try and start with a better form of organization. I want to try and keep my SSD with my OS on it as clear as possible. By doing that I wanted to keeps all my pictures and documents, videos, etc on my second hdd.

That is simple enough. What I want to know is if there is an easy way to have it set so every time I add pictures or music it stores on the secondary drive and still shows up in my "Pictures" file. How do you organize?

Cannot Install Antivirus Programs On PC Due To Error

Sep 14, 2015

I was unable to update AVG free due to an error. It said that something was being installed (there wasn't though) and it had to be finished first. I got the same error when trying to uninstall it so I had to use an AVG tool to force remove it from my system (I had this error for days before removing it so a restart did not work). Now I don't have an antivirus on my pc and I get an installation error when trying to install it again. Instead, I tried Panda free this time. Error. So I'm thinking it's not the antivirus, it's something in windows 10 that's malfunctioning but I don't know what.

Install Disc 0xc000021a Error

Jan 13, 2016

So, my hard drive recently went out on my computer. I'm broke, so I pulled a hard drive out of an old computer my friend gave me a couple years ago. That hard drive has a non-genuine copy of windows 7 ultimate edition. The previous hard drive had Windows 8.1, and I have a valid product key for that, so I figured "Eh, what the heck. I'll just install 10 and use my Windows 8 product key to validate it for the free upgrade."

Now, the problem becomes that the copy of windows 7 on the hard drive is 32 bit, and the rest of the computer is built for a 64 bit OS, and I don't like the idea of not using the full capabilities of my system. I've got 8GB RAM in here. Only using half of it feels horrible. So I'd like to get 64 bit Windows 10. I went and downloaded the iso through microsoft's media thing, then burned it to a DVD5 using a separate tool called imgburn.

However, when I boot to the DVD, the blue, flat windows logo shows up, it hangs for awhile doing nothing, the spinning dots show up, then it immediately crashes, giving me a blue screen.

The blue screen has the frowny face and the "Something went wrong" and the error code 0xc000021a. A bunch of googling shows me a whole lot of problems with the system on boot, but nothing at all related to installing windows 10 and getting that error. Microsoft's site has been less than useful, only telling me that there was either a problem with WinLogon.exe or csrss.exe, with no information about how to trouble shoot that problem.

I've tried making more copies of the disc (I'm out of DVDs now), and I redownloaded the iso and switched burner programs for the final disc.

How To Enable System Protection On Secondary HDD

Jul 30, 2015

I have disable system protection on my primary (C:) which is an SSD.

When trying to enable system protection on my 1TB HDD (E:), the option is simply greyed out.

I had hoped to save writes on my SSD to increase it's lifespan, and it appears to be recommended in various SSD optimisation guides. Is it at all possible to enable system restore points to be saved on other hard drives?

Drivers/Hardware :: Secondary HDD Not Turning Off

Jul 30, 2015

I upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro yesterday and so far everything works great, the only problem is that my secondary HDD always stays on. I have a 128GB SSD as my main drive and an 750GB HDD as my secondary drive for games, pictures and stuff. Since the latter runs at 7200rpm and is quite loud and my laptop is otherwise pretty much completely silent (when I turn the fan on stealth mode) I had created a power profile for studying that turns off hard drives after 1 minute of not using them and with windows 7 that worked just fine.

Now though, my secondary HDD never turns off. I checked task manager and resource monitor and found that my pagefile was on my secondary so I moved that to my SSD, but now it still doesn't turn off, even when Task manager and resource manager tell me nothing has accessed it for several minutes.

Secondary Hard Drive Not Getting Recognized

Aug 23, 2015

My PC has three hard drives. A Samsung solid state drive (840 series) that has windows and all games / programs on it, and two older Samsung HDD's (HD753LJ, about 7 years old) that I use to store videos, photos, music etc. It had been working fine in this configuration with Windows 7 for years.

I recently upgraded to windows 10 (in place upgrade, not a clean install) which worked OK except one of the two HDD's was not found by Windows 10. After a couple of turn off / turn back on cycles it found it and was OK for a little while. However it stopped finding it again and now hasn't worked for a few weeks.

If I boot into BIOS it lists all three hard drives as boot options, but only two come up in disk manager / device manager / my computer within Windows 10. Is this a Windows 10 problem or is the hard drive dying? (The timing would be very coincidental if it's not a windows problem).

Installation :: Can't Install Update - UEFI Error?

Dec 23, 2015

So, I have Windows 10 already installed on my PC. I upgraded it last Summer from Windows 7 for free.

I've been trying to update it for the past 6 weeks but keep getting the error: "Windows 10 couldn't be installed. Windows can't be installed because this PC has an unsupported desk layout for UEFI firmware."

I have 3 hard drives and Win10 is running on my main SSD, disk 0. I remember having some funky upgrade issues and needed to unplug certain hard-drives due to strange ownership issues. Heres is a look from Disk Management. I've got an MSI m-board plus BIOS, all new.

Updates Cannot Install - Error Code 0x800705b4

Aug 12, 2015

Just found myself diggin' more and more in bugs and troubles in Windows 10. Now, when I'm looking for updates with Windows Update it shows me that the Updates cannot install and to check it out later, and then gives me an error code: 0x800705b4.

I don't know how to fix this, I have been looking for this error code in the gigant sea of the Internet but nothing. I'm growing tired of Windows 10 Mountains of Bugs. I know it's still not finish and it's never ever gonna be finish, but this is just too much, adding that I'm with the people who cannot download/update apps from the Store and cannot open the Mail/Calendar/OneNote apps.

Error Code 0xe0000234 When Trying To Install Realtek

Jan 22, 2016

I bought new parts on 14th of Jan (i5 6600k, Asus Maximus VIII Gene, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4gb 3600 mHz). Swapped them with my old i5 760, Gigabyte motherboard and 8gb RAM.

The day after I installed my new components, Windows prompted me to activate Windows (apparently a new motherboard counts as a new computer thus a new license required). I ignored it, installed all the new drivers for my motherboard and CPU (Realtek worked fine BTW). 2 days later I couldn't stand the "Activate Windows" thingy at the bottom of my screen, so I decided so sacrifice my money to Microsoft to buy another license of Windows 8.1 Pro.

Installed Windows 8.1 Pro via USB (erased all data on SSD first) and upgraded to Win 10 from there.

So there I was on a clean Win 10. Used Ninite to install most common Apps, and went over to my motherboard's driver page over on ASUS's website. Downloaded the Realtek Audio Driver from there ((4.35) 6.0.1.7629), and tried to install it.

While I find the Realtek installer really outdated and janky, it normally works. The installer showed up and began extracting all sorts of files (mostly .dll files), the big blue window in the back popped up and after a while the message "InstallShield Wizard is installing..." popped up. It was then when I received the message: "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !! [Error Code : 0xE0000234".

So it's listed between Programs and Features, and I can also find it in the Device Manager, Under "Other Devices" as "Unknown Device". When I double click that the status reports:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Driver is not intended for this platform.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clicked "update driver", manually searched for the drivers in the extracted setup folder, didn't work.

Secondary GPU Shows Code 43 Even With Updated Drivers

Jul 30, 2015

I just installed Windows 10 and have got a problem that has me stumped. I have two GPUs, an EVGA GTX 760 as my primary and a GTX 560 Ti running a second monitor. The 760 had no issues in the upgrade, but no matter what I do to the 560, it shows up in device manager as Code 43. I'm trying to gauge if it's an issue with the fact I have two dissimilar GPUs or a bit of software not liking that particular card. My gut says software, but I don't know exactly what. I've done some googling to the effect and seems to be I'm not the only one with troubles but didn't find a fix that worked.I don't want to roll back just yet and my 760 can pick up the slack easily, so if there's a fix on the horizon I can wait. Otherwise, I'll have to check my options.
