Install On New SSD - Drive Wasn't Formatted Correctly

Aug 8, 2015

When I made the decision to move to Win10 I also decided to get a new SSD. So I had Win8 on my HDD and I've been trying to get Win10 on the SSD. I tried cloning the drive however it does not look right and it won’t boot to the cloned drive.

I also tried installing Win8 on the SSD but it said the drive wasn't formatted correctly.

Cannot Install On Laptop Because SSD Is Not Formatted As NTFS

Sep 5, 2015

Laptop System: Toshiba P755-S5120 / 8GB Ram / PNY SSD 240GB / Ubuntu OS. I have a new copy of Win 10 Home USB.

The latest Ubuntu is currently installed on the SSD. I tried to replace Ubuntu by installing Win 10. I can boot from Win 10 USB, enter the product key, but the 'Where do I want to install Windows' dialog box shows the warning 'Windows can't be installed on drive 0 partition 1. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS'. I have the option to delete the partitions but not format. It doesn't ask me if I want to format the SSD anywhere during the process.

What would be the steps to get Win 10 on SSD or possibly reformat the SSD to NTFS?

Stuck In Install Loop With Error - USB Was Formatted In NTFS Instead Of Fats32

Aug 10, 2015

I recently tried to fresh install Windows 10. I ended up getting stuck in a install loop with the error INCOMPATIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE so I tried to use a USB instead. This resulted in an error saying my USB was formatted in NTFS instead of Fats32 (even though I had just formatted it to be fats32).

My first question would be how to fix this error? Now, while trying to download Windows, I accidentally deleted my Linux partition (woops). My second question is to just delete all partitions on my hard drive and restart from scratch? I'm attempting this on a Lenovo Ideapad y510p.

Settings App Update History Keeps Saying It Needs A Restart To Install Correctly

Nov 28, 2015

A cumulative update came through and didn't install correctly. The Settings app Update history keeps saying it needs a restart to install correctly.

Reinstalled, no change. I uninstalled the update and Windows Update reapplied it successfully. Now the Update history says two entries for the same update, one that it installed successfully and the previous one is still there saying it needs a restart to finish installing.

Any way to clean up the reporting of the app?

Possible To Install Laptop Hard Drive Into Desktop Then Move Windows Install To SSD?

Jan 15, 2016

I'm about to build my first desktop, and I have a laptop with Windows 10 (upgraded from 7 which it came with). I don't plan on using the laptop anymore, so is it possible to install the laptop's hard drive into the desktop then move the Windows install to an SSD? If not, should I just buy a Win10 key or would it be possible to contact Microsoft about transferring the OS over?

Make Clean Install Through Optical Drive Not USB Drive

Dec 18, 2015

I just bought a new 850 EVO and i am trying to make a clean install of windows 10 pro through my optical drive, not a usb drive. I turned bios to AHCI and everything seems fine. At least everything worked fine with windows 7. So the problem is that after the installation asked me for first time to restart my pc and i removed the DVD, then bios showed me that there is no Hard drive in my system, after making the AHCI checks.

Installation :: Operating System Wasn't Found After Resetting Windows Failed

Aug 17, 2015

I have recently upgrade to Win 10 from windows 7 and it was running fine until it started booting with the analyzing and repairing windows screen. I had tried to get out of it by windows repair and by system restore but there were no points to restore too. I ended up trying the windows reset which failed when I selected to leave my files so then I tried the reset including removing my files. It failed part way through saying it could not complete the action and now when I boot up every time I get "An operating system wasn't found" etc. I do not have a windows CD or know my windows registration number.

Will The Drive Install Windows On Become The C Drive By Default

Oct 5, 2015

Basically, I plan to disconnect every other Drive from my computer (my 2nd SSD and the HDD I use for data storage). From there, I'd do a clean install of Windows 10 onto my SSD.

Will that SSD become my C Drive by default (I want it to)? Will is stay that way when I reconnect my other drives provided I continue to boot from my SSD?

Installation :: New 4TB Drive Install

Aug 15, 2015

I have a HP Pavilion 23 all in one PC (23-f221ea) and the 1TB hard disk is getting rather full.. I want to change for say a 4TB drive, I know that I can't clone my 1TB drive to the 4TB drive using something like Acronis as max is 2TB and the new 4TB drive will have to be GPT formatted. I have already updated my PC to W10 with the ISO disk I made from MS update.. Can I install the larger disk GPT formatted and install with the ISO disk I made??? Or will I have to start all again and install with Win8/8.1 first..??

Installation :: Install ISO Onto New SSD Drive?

Sep 5, 2015

A few days ago I got a new Win8.1 laptop that I smoothly upgraded to Win10. This laptop now shows as being registered with Microsoft. I just now purchased a 250GB SSD that will arrive in a week or so. I want to install Win10 on this new drive. A friend just gave me a DVD burned with the Win10 ISO. When I get my new drive I'll install it into the laptop. Then I'll boot from the DVD and (hopefully) do a *clean* install of Win10. And (hopefully) Microsoft will recognize the laptop as already officially registered. Will this plan work? Am I missing anything important? Do I need to get all the drivers first? Or will the upgrade process grab all the needed drivers? My friend said when he did this process it got all the needed drivers. I already did a backup System Image of Win10 to an external hard drive, and I made a System Recovery DVD. There's no personal files or documents on the existing Win10 drive.

How To Install Windows On Same PC But Different Drive

I don't want to copy the OS from my current drive over, i want to do a clean install of windows on the SSD. How would i do this?

How To Install Without Optical Drive

Sep 27, 2015

I just finished my latest build, and for my OS I purchased a copy of windows 10 (64 bit home edition). The problem is my case does not support external drive bays, and I don't particularly want to fork out the cash for an external optical drive. I read online that you could create a USB boot disk for windows 10, but couldn't find an explanation on how. I have a 16gb flash drive, and a laptop with a dvd player running windows 7. I was wondering how I could get windows 10 on to my pc?

Clean Install To Another Drive

Sep 11, 2015

Drives:

C:/ (HDD)
S:/ (SSD)
O:/ (SSD)

Right, I have my OS (Windows 10) installed on the C:/ drive, but I'd like to reinstall it on the O:/ drive. I've only come across one way of doing it:
Clean installation, then copy/move the C:/ drive's content to the O:/ drive. This is what I'm aiming for:

-Having my OS moved from the C:/ to the O:/ drive.
-Cleaning the C:/ drive from all data.
-Keeping the S:/ drive untouched, no problem I'd say.
-Possible: Having the C:/ and O:/ drives switch names after the installation (So the SSD with the newly installed OS would be named C:/.).

Is this possible to do this in one move and use the same Windows 10 key?

Installation :: Can Install With Very Small C Drive

Aug 22, 2015

I have an old PC I use for testing things. I want to install Win10 on it before installing it anywhere else. But this PC has an 80GB SSD C drive. Currently it has only 12GB free. I can free up maybe 6 or 7 more GB by removing a bunch of USER temp data (if I'm brave enough), but that is still way below the Win10 system requirements. I have 2 additional internal drives, 512GB each. (Seemed like a lot 5 years ago.) The D drive has over 400GB free. Is the Win10 installation smart enough to use space on the D drive, or am I going to have to replace my small SSD with something bigger?
