Installed the 'Windows 10 Login Screen Changer' that I found on this forum, clicked 'change background' and bam...black screen. I turned the computer off and on again and still black screen with a Cursor.Ctrl Alt Del does nothing. My keyboard still lights up, and pressing Windows + P brings up the project menu but doesn't solve the issue. Forgot to mention I'm running the newest build of Windows 10 and have been for several weeks without any problems.
I've been having some issues to get Windows 10 installed. I've got an ASUS ROG G20AJ desktop computer running an i7 processor and a GTX 760 graphics card. I got my Windows 10 update and everything went fine, and the installation process began. The problem is, when it gets to the 32 % of"Installating drivers and features", the screen goes black and I can only see the cursor. The installation process won't complete and it's been like 8 hours now. What should I do??
I installed Windows 10 yesterday and I had kept my laptop on power and I went away for a bit and when I came back a couple of hours later, my laptop's screen was black but the lights on the laptop blinked so as to show that it had just restarted. So I waited for it to start, however the screen is black and there's absolutely nothing happening.
I googled the problem and found that people could see a cursor or a pointer on their screen but it's not coming for me. Also, my laptop is a 2 year old Dell Inspiron 14z. I need to access my computer, I have to travel in a week. Also, I was updating from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, and I don't have any CD for Windows 8 as it came pre-installed with it, with the shopkeeper telling me that Windows 8 comes installed in the BIOS so there's no CD. Anyway, I really need to access my laptop asap? I have got absolutely no clue as to what I should do.
I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
So like a lot of you, I wanted to upgrade my laptop to Windows 10. But when the laptop was in the middle of installing Windows 10 and had restarted a few times, as it does during the installation, it suddenly went black screen with NO cursor or anything. It has been like this for 2 days now, and I don't know what to do.
I can clearly see that the laptop is still on and "working", so it has not just shut down. I'm afraid to force the laptop to turn off, because it's in the middle of a system upgrade. So I'm wondering if there are any alternative solutions or is my only option to force the laptop to shut down and then restart it and hope for the best?
So i tried updating my computer from windows 8 to 10 and last night and it froze at 75% and configuration settings 1%, i let it sit there all night but it still was at 75%. I had read that people where having the same problem and that itll revert to windows 8.1 after you reset it so i did. To my surprise it booted as windows 10 and allowed me to log in but after i logged in my computer black screened without a cursor. I reset it several times but the same problem kept occuring.
I updated my Windows 7 to Windows 10 few weeks ago. The update process went well, atleast it looked like it. After the update i started having weird freezing problems. It looked like that some process took 100% of my cpu but i was unable to see what process it was.
Anyway sometimes this problem occurred several times in a row but after trying enough Windows 10 started OK and everything looked fine.
Now few days ago there was some updates installing and i got the same freezing problem. I had to restart my pc from the start button. After that reboot i was unable to start Windows. I can see the Bios logos and i can enter to bios but i cant load the Windows. It get stuck before the Windows logo. All i can see is the black screen with flickering cursor ot top left corner.
I can see my disks from bios and the boot order is OK. I have also tried F8 to select where to boot but no luck. I cant even start on safe mode.. (no selection). Tried to load bios default. No luck. Tried with Hirens boot cd. No luck.
Now I am able to start some Linux workaround from Hirens Boot CD and can access to my C: Drive..
I am not having any Win 10 DVD:s so i cant try any repair installation. (im trying to borrow DVD somewhere). Win 7 DVD/repair is not working.
So updated this morning, got the black screen that many others are getting with the mouse. (Alienware x51) I was reading these forums on my phone while tinkering with the computer. About 10 restarts into it, my computer reverted back to 8.1 ... Reading other forums and solutions, I'm currently updating every graphics driver that I can, and crossing my fingers. I figured I would start THIS thread so that people can see if that works. I'm NOT very computer savvy, couldn't figure out how to get to where I could turn off the intel card. So I'm updating everything now, before I reinstall windows 10.
Okay so I stupidly decided to upgrade to Windows 10.I left the install going and went out. When I came home it was stuck on a black screen without a cursor. The problem I am facing now is, sometimes I can get the laptop to go to the system restore menu if I screw around with it long enough, but it won't let me in because I don't have a password to log in (I never had one on this laptop) but it still requires one? And I can't seem to find any other way to get back to Windows 7, since I usually can't see anything at all?
After upgrading my Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro I have also been plagued with the black screen of death. After the BIOS screen it goes black and I do not even get a mouse cursor and I've also let it run for about 30 minutes just in case and nothing. I've tried a lot of the fixes that are being posted online:
-Updated the display adapter driver -Subsequently uninstalled the display adapter driver -Disabled fast startup -Pulled out the battery -Enabled F8 at startup -Tried using an installation media DVD I made and that also gets stuck loading but with the blue Windows Logo.
Here is the kicker. I have a bootable USB that has Ultimate Boot CD on it with mini Windows XP. When I boot into mini Windows XP and click shutdown and select restart, Windows 10 then boots normally and will repeatedly boot normally as long as I don't eject that USB. Once I eject that USB I lose everything and I can't even get into Safe Mode. So I've gone back in to see what kind of display driver the mini Windows XP has but have had no luck in finding it. I did call Windows and they said my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad E555) is compatible with Windows 10. Beyond that they were not useful at all.
Just upgraded my bro-in-law's HP Pavilion desktop from 8.1 to 10. It's got an AMD processor, but I don't know which one exactly...probably one of the lower level ones. It was a refurb from Fry's, purchased a couple of months ago. It was running 8.1 just fine.
The upgrade process to win 10 went smoothly, got the pretty picture and the standard login screen, entered login info and got a series of messages welcoming me to win 10 and that the system was being configured. Then a message that said the install was "taking a bit longer than usual" and to wait a while longer. Stayed on this for about 10 minutes, and then screen went black with a cursor. And it's been that way for the past two hours. Just leaving it for now hoping it will magically come up with the win 10 desktop, but so far no love.
I have downloaded and successful installed Windows 10 on one of my two computers. When I downloaded to second computer it hung on the installation re-boot. Now machine will only display BIOS splash screen and then shows a black screen with a single fast flashing cursor.
I tried putting the original Windows 7 install disk in the DVD but could not boot that way either. I can not get in contact with Windows support in Australia and have not been able to find an email address.
Upgrading from windows 7 to 10, started install at around 10:30am and left it....around 2:30pm it started the large circle with the % in the centre, and again left it for another hour or so and came back to a black screen, no cursor or anything.
I waited until about 7:30 and still nothing and did a reboot by holding the power button down. On restarting, I get the windows 10 logo with the spinning dots, and then it cuts to black with no cursor. The CPU light does what it would usually do on startup, and when it first cuts to black but then the screen seems to change to a different black (if that makes sense?!) and the light only blips extremely quickly with a long period before it blips again
i know this is another update gone wrong post but I can't seem to find any with the same problem, just similar ones. I've read it can take a long time, but it's been nearly 11 hours and is very frustrating!
i'm not mega pc savvy, I get 2 options when I boot, and I've looked and there's no option for me to do a safe boot, or to revert back go windows 7. If I leave it on black screen for too long it automatically goes into sleep mode.
I just updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Here's my specs:
Alienware M15x - R1 Notebook Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT Intel Core2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10GHz (if you need more specs let me know)
So, I had problems going from Vista to windows 7 because of graphics drivers in the past, and I assume this is the same problem. What happened was I installed everything, came back and my screen was black, no cursor, with the laptop still on. I turned it off and turned it back on, and after the windows load-up it goes black again.
I tried using windows + p to project to a different monitor, but no luck. I tried a lot of different things that I won't bore you with.
Here's my guesses: My graphics driver is out of date, so once I get that up to date I think I might be good, but I'm not sure.
I'm currently on integrated graphics mode, which I think is working as well. I think the other setting is called external, but I'm not positive. I think when my battery is low and I start up my laptop, it switches to inegrated to conserve power, which is why I'm able to be on here right now.
I just downloaded & installed a driver for my graphics card from Geforce.com, and am gonna reboot, which is why I posted this now in case I can't make it back, lol. If you post though I'll be able to see it on my phone, but I might not be able to respond (I can't type sometimes - it closes my keyboard).
I upgraded from windows 7 ultimate to windows 10. It seemed to install okay and asked me to log on and select setup preferences, which I did. I left it alone to finish setup and it went to sleep. Now I only get a black screen with an active cursor. I've tried multiple hard restarts, entering logon blindly as suggested in other posts and using windows key-p to switch monitors all to no affect. Ctrl-alt-del has no effect. I cannot bring up any screen and so cannot start in safe mode or download video card drivers. I do not have Windows 10 on media.
So basically, I've been dealing with this issue ever since I've upgraded to windows 10 months ago. I've done disk checks sata port checks almost everything under the sun and still have not found a solution to my problem.
Months ago, anytime my computer was shut down for more than an hour or 2 I would encounter an interesting unique problem. After booting and loading the bios screen, the next screen would be black and would hang there and I would have to hard reset and try again. I would keep having to hard reset until it would boot into the Windows Boot Manager and from there I would hit the Reset button or go to the advanced settings, and hit continue to windows 10 and it would from there boot into windows successfully.
Now you must be thinking "Simple work around! Simply boot into the Windows Boot Manager every time you shut down your computer and easily but annoyingly bootleg boot into windows 10 everytime using the Boot Manager options" and I thought the same. Unfortunately unless I let my computer get to the boot manager by hard resets at that black screen I cant get windows 10 to boot.
I've reinstalled windows 10 again for the 2nd time on a new ssd in hopes that it was a drive issue but that does not seem to be the case, This is my second install of windows 10 on this ssd. This time I've installed windows HOME instead of Pro.
I do NOT boot into a black screen with a cursor
There is now something I'm going to call "The Event" After a fresh install my windows 10 will freeze however i can move my mouse but no keyboard commands work and I from this point have to force reset my computer, AFTER i FORCE RESET when my computer is shut down for a couple of hours i encounter the boot problem. so this "EVENT" has something to do with whats causing this issue.
The Event was different when windows 10 was installed on my 1TB HDD, everything would lock up rather then being able to use my mouse and it would force reset on its own.
Okay, so I reserved my free copy of Windows 10 a few days ago, and tried to install this morning. It all seemed to be going smoothly... then everything disappeared, and I was left with a black screen for three hours. Finally in frustration I powered off and on again; The blue windows 10 logo appeared, and the loading wheel span for a few seconds, followed by the black screen again - no cursor or anything. I can't enter safe mode, either - it makes a really violent buzzing sound whenever I hit F8. I'm worried my laptop is irreparably damaged... I'm upgrading from Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron laptop (or trying to).
I cant find a fix to my computer with my Nvidia graphics card here's what happened.
- Windows 8.1 update to windows 10 happens. - Successful upgrade so i start up games to see changes into fps. - Graphics card is not working so i uninstall them and try to reinstalled them again but to no avail ( should have restarted my PC i know). - Get message to start restart on safe mode and so i do so. - Suddenly I receive a black screen to which after many attempts to fix it via online including the installation media flash drive and the start+P key bind whatever thing.
I am not able to play my games, talk to my family and study for my ISU for my school which i need now because the work is inside! I need to fix this but am running out of options.
Also i wouldn't say am bad with computers I do know how to get to control panel, run commands on cmd, etc. But some detailed course of action explaining what do would useful.
Any link on how to downgrade to windows 8.1 or even 7 would be useful but not necessary, don't want my computer updating something I don't know.
I tried to upgrade to windows 10 from 8.1 and i tried 3 times and all I get is BLACK SCREEN after logging in task manager won't work, so i cant check is the explorer.exe isn't working or what. Also the same thing on safe mode black screen with cursor and nothing else.
Earlier on my Win 10 computer I did a command prompt, sfc scannow. So I waited for the scan which fixed a problem/corrupt file.
Afterwards it said computer needed restarting so I did just that, but after the windows logo the screen just stays black with the cursor showing.
Ctrl alt del to bring up task manager etc does nothing at all. Tried simply restarting pc again but it's the same every time.
Solved - On a different computer I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO file and burned on to a blank DVD.
I got into the BIOS to change the boot order to CD/DVD first, then inserted the dvd. (you DO get the option to keep or delete your files) The Repair option didn't work, but using a Restore Point did. My files-documents, pictures etc WERE kept.
My Windows 10 was running perfectly well for one full week. Then this morning I noticed it installed some update and after reboot the screen went black and the cursor appeared.
I tried every thing but nothing worked. I cannot even access the troubleshooting, bios, repair, etc... Nothing.
After it reboots I noticed that if I type my password blindly the HDD LED starts to blink wildly as in loading my start up programs etc....
But nothing else happens when I try Ctrl-alt-del or win-r and type explorer.exe or whatever I can think of.
This has been happening ever since I upgraded to 10 about 2 weeks ago. I start the computer, 3 second ASUS logo, then windows 10 logo comes up and it loads for about 10-20 seconds, then I get a black screen with a cursor for 30-60 seconds, followed by another loading screen and finally the login screen. About the same boot time I had on 7 except for the long black screen. I can move the cursor around during the black screen, and it sometimes has the blue loading circle next to it. I've tried disabling fast startup and my video drivers are up to date.
Device manager doesn't show more than one display adapter, but it does show 4 monitors if I show hidden devices. My BenQ monitor in DVI-D and Generic PnP monitor, which is my TV plugged into the DVI-I port on my 770, and then a hidden copy of each of those. I usually have the TV off with display on my BenQ, but windows seems to think the BenQ is the second monitor, calling the TV the PC screen when I check windows key + P. I don't know if that's relevant or not, but it caused a problem during my win10 install (windows switched to the TV display mid-install.) I tried switching the display ports while booting up but I still had the black screen.
I have installed windows 10 on my computer a month ago and it worked well , but now i have a problem : the pc load , windows 10 logo appears then black screen and the cursor appears ... I havn't changed anything in my configuration nor installed any new software and no upgrade ..
Problem = When I boot up my pc after logging in and entering my password , i get a black screen with only my cursor. After 30-60s the screen flickers and everything becomes normal and works fine.
