Installation :: Both USB And DVD Installer Hang At Initial Splash

Mar 27, 2015

yesterday I downloaded the 10041 ISO from the Windows 10 Technical Preview ISO March Update - Microsoft Windows.I installed by mounting the ISO into a VirtualBox and enjoyed having a look around. In fact I like it so much at my initial impression I decided to move into a dual boot system.

I have a 250gb SSD as my C: drive so I partitioned it and created a D: of 80GB for the Windows 10 preview.I then tried creating 2 different USB installers... one Rufus MBR for legacy BIOS... and the second using the microsoft USB/DVD installer tool. I also burnt a DVD. In all cases I used the very same ISO that I mounted sucessfully inside the VirtualBox yesterday. Each one of the 3 installers I created seemingly hangs at the initial black splash screen with the 4 blue windows in the centre. It goes no further and believe me I waited 20 minutes on one of them.

BTW.... I tried opening the ISO in WINISO and then mounting to BD ROM drive. Then selected the setup.exe and away it goes just like setting up on the VBox ... but then it get to a screen which suggests I need to install a different language pack to the one already installed, so I immediately realised this route is trying to upgrade my Win 7 which I don't want... so I aborted.

Installation :: Initial Setup Showing No Option For Upgrade

Aug 2, 2015

As I stated in the subject line, Windows 10 setup, whether using the regular update method, running the ISO from within Windows, or using the Media Creation Tool, only asks for product key and there is no option (button) for 'Upgrade'.

This may sound confusing so I want to make it clear that I am NOT trying to do a clean install on a system that hasn't been activated yet. I'm talking about the very first upgrade install. It won't work.

A couple of days ago I DID see the 'Upgrade this PC' (or something like that) and the install started but failed due to the ever popular Pentium G3258 CPU problem. There was advice all over the 'Net that all you had to do was disable one of the CPU cores in the BIOS and the install would complete just fine.

So I disabled the core and tried to start the install again.

Now the installation procedure won't even begin. It just sits there. It says 'Product key" in big letters and "Windows isn't activated on this PC. This means you'll have to enter the Windows 10 product key below or exit" and the only two buttons are Back and Next, both of which are grayed out.

I thought maybe the Windows 10 installation files were corrupt or something so I wiped the system and reinstalled 7 from scratch (Oh yeah, that was really a fun part of my day) and re-downloaded and used the Media Creation Tool again and selected (whatever it says) to begin the upgrade installation and now it's still doing what it was before, asking for a product key instead of running the upgrade installation.

I want to make it clear one more time because I'll get TL;DR answers such as "You can't do a clean install, you have to do the upgrade method first so Windows 10 can generate your hash and activate":

I am NOT attempting to do a clean install. I'm trying to run the initial 'Upgrade' method. I fully understand that you can't do a clean install without the upgrade being completed first. Why it's asking for a product key instead of starting an upgrade installation?

Installation :: Can't Boot USB Drive With X64 Windows Installer

Aug 22, 2015

Whenever I try to install a 64 bit Windows 10 copy from a flash drive, I get stuck on the 4 blue squares, with no white dots spinning. Then after about 10 seconds the PC restarts. I have tried the official way with the media creation tool, I have tried just downloading the ISO and using a third party bootable USB maker, I have tried ISO's from pirate sites (yes, I know, not the best solution) but none of those worked. Every time I tried a different method I always fully formatted the USB drive. Oddly enough the 32 bit version worked once or twice but even that doesn't work anymore. My PC specs are quite good so I really don't know what's the issue. Btw im running a 120 GB AData SSD and a 1 TB Seagate hard drive.

Installation :: Will Media Creation Tool Create USB Installer With Version 1511?

Nov 15, 2015

I am running Windows 10 Pro x64 that I installed as a full version (not from the free update, I purchased the full edition from Microsoft).Whenever I get a new OS I like to do a clean install so I used the Microsoft Media Creation Tool which I downloaded from this page. I used the Media Creation Tool to install the OS (wiped and created new partitions, installed the OS, etc.).

Now with this nightmare update they just released (Version 1511) I am having SO many issues. I would like to do another fresh install of this new version. If I use the Media Creation Tool again to create an USB installer will it contain this latest version (i.e. I won't have to go through the whole update process again)? Or does the Media Creation Tool only create a USB installer that contains the "base" operating system which will required updates all over again? If not, how can i create an installer for Version 1511 so that I can avoid the pain of updating?

BIOS Not Showing Up On Initial Loading Screen

Sep 2, 2015

When I first started windows (windows XP) i always entered the BIOS through the use of the f keys at what i call the "initial boot menu" as i got older i jumped with the changes with windows and now i am at windows 10 after making the jump from 8.1 .

However I noticed my option on the "initial start up menu" to load up BIOS instead of my OS is no longer present and i must always go through the windows system to access it. while this is not always a problem , it is now that i am required as a college student to use multiple OS , i must now use a dual boot system, which is severely impractical with what seems to be the newest versions of windows forcing me to go through their system to access the BIOS menu.

Is there something wrong here software wise in the windows 10 operating system that i dont know ? or is this a common thing for more modern versions of the OS?

I have tried troubleshooting in a few ways with no results in bringing back my option to Boot the BIOS but this is what i have tried so far

Turned off "fast startup "
reset the BIOS/CMOS by "setting to defaults in the BIOS menu"....

After Initial Dell Loading Screen Computer Restarts

Nov 8, 2015

After upgrading to windows 10, I was able to use it. But, when I tried turning my computer back on the next day, it would restart after the Dell loading screen would go away. It will go through this reboot cycle and never end. Ive tried pulling up the advanced boot options but it never works. The only things I can boot up are the regular boot options and the start up options. When going into the boot options I ran the scan that you can do (I forgot what it was called) and it said that everything was fine, that there were no problems. Im unsure as to why this problem started, or, how to fix it.

I remembered when I first installed Windows 10,each time I started my laptop a different picture would appear and I'd be asked if I liked the picture or not. That ha stopped and now all I get is a picture of a sunrise. How can I change that picture?

PC Won't Load After Initial Updates Following Either Fresh Install Or Upgrade

Sep 5, 2015

Hardware consisted of z87pro, 16gb ram, sandisk 250gbssd. Purely for office work and was fine. Upgraded to windows 10 initially and all seemed fine. Few weeks later being yesterday the pc would boot but got stuck on the windows 10 loader screen with the dots going round and never getting past it. Anyway in the end I had all my data so I formatted the disk and started again. Following fresh install of windows 10 as soon as the initial updates were applied the machine would appear to shut down but would not go off. Manual restart would lead to the machine getting stuck on the white dots going round and round.

I have also tried another SSD drive and a windows 7 to windows 10 upgrade and the same problem repeats. It seems as soon as the latest updates are applied and machine is rebooted it then fails to load the OS..I now have an image of windows 10 following install without the updates but soon as those initial updates go on the os fails on the white dots going round and round... The os shuts down with no updates and re-loads..

Stuck In A Hang Up In Booting

Aug 20, 2015

Upgrade from Win 7 64bit to Win 10 64 bit on a Gateway laptop 3 days ago and everything worked well. This morning the laptop hung up in the booting process and wont fully load the OS. I get to the window logo, a greyed login box, and in task bar the clock and battery icon but nothing else. No start button no search and none of the pinned programs. Setup has only one user

I cant get into safe mode with Win key + R so I cant even get far enough in to roll back to a restore point or back to Win7 and I would prefer not to have to do a clean install of Win 7, restore my image and then re-upgrade if at all possible.

Internet Browsers All Hang

This will be in layman's terms. The new Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Google Chrome, all get stuck, or hang. They take up to 3 minutes or even up to 5 minutes to unstick. Running on Toshiba Satellite. Just upgraded for free last night, and I was too tired, lazy, and dumb to do anything smart like a clean install, use a cool tool, etc.

Performance :: OS Hang At Shutdown Screen?

Jan 11, 2016

What would cause a windows 10 OS to hang at the Shutdown screen? It just keeps spinning. My on off button won't shut the PC off. This just happened last night. I first did the Start Menut>Power>Shutdown. It took me to the Blue shutdown page and just hung there. It did not completely shut down. I tried the on/off button. That didn't work so I had to shut off the power strip to shut it off.

PC Near Turn Off Shows BIOS Splash Screen And Begin Start Up

Sep 28, 2015

I have a desktop that I ran the update on from windows 7 up to windows 10. When I go to shutdown on this system it appears to begin the shutdown process. However, after a few moments with black screens and appearing to have shut down, the PC near turns off and shows the BIOS splash screen and begins to start windows up again.

I have tried various troubleshooting options on the internet though only resulting in - a screen every time I "shut down" that tells me that there has been an error and that the computer must restart, even though I was shutting it down in the first place... It also tells me that there is an error named "apple.sys" possibly causing the problem. The computer then restarts fine every time after that point though the only possible way of me shutting the computer down is manually holding the shut down button on my pc case. Then once I power up after that my computer fails to give power to my keyboard and mouse, to which I must then reset the BIOS every single time and then restart. This is the only way I can turn my pc back on after every time I manually power down - resetting the BIOS to bring power to my accessories. I dont really want to keep doing this every single night and plus I figure it must be bad for my pc.

I am now wondering if a clean install is my only option, or if there is some other way of keeping windows 10… just having it work properly.
