View 8 RepliesJust upgraded my work pc to windows 10. Haven't gotten to the desktop yet. I cannot no longer log in. It does not recognize my password. This has never happened before. Also, my login prompt under 8.1 was just the password. Now it also presents me with a selection for the user name and another one for the password. Didn't expect that problem. Moreover it does not react to when I request a reboot. (By the way, the pc is independent. It does NOT belong to a domain.)

View 4 RepliesI have several machine running Windows 7 Professional that I want to upgrade to Windows 10. Question is can I upgrade 1 machine add my other programs Office etc , take an image and then use that image to upgrade the other machines. Adding a new machine using Win7 image was easy, install the image changes the license number for Win7 & Office reboot and that was it.
View 5 RepliesI have windows 7 on a 750GB drive at the moment, but I want to install 10 on my SSD which only has 30 GB of space. Of course, I don't want to have to re-install all my data. If I go the upgrade route, will I have an option to choose which drive I install the windows files to?
View 8 RepliesI was able to upgrade a Win 8.1 Pro to 10240 Pro RTM without any problems. However I have a Win 8.1 Pro with mediacenter and when I try to do the upgrade (run setup within the OS) I only have the option to do a clean install and not an upgrade and keep settings.
View 9 RepliesYes I'm a Windows Insider and should get the release version of Win 10 on the 29th based on my usual fast "flight" fairly quickly for my Win 10 preview installation. Based on my email address will that give me a reasonably early download of Win 10 on my Win 7 computer? If not can I use the Install.esd to make a release version iso for my Win 7 computer?
View 2 RepliesI have Windows 8.1 on a small hard drive, I am wondering can I upgrade my current installation to windows 10 on a larger hard drive and how would I do it.
View 1 RepliesWhen I downloaded Windows 8 Pro a few years ago my PC only had 1GB of RAM, so it installed the 32 Bit version. I have since added another GB of RAM. When Windows 10 is released, will I be able to download and install the 64 Bit version, or am I stuck with the 32 Bit version on this PC?
View 9 RepliesI am running Windows 7 Home Premium, yet I do NOT have a CD or DVD drive. Is it possible for me to upgrade to W10?
My W7 is not asking me to upgrade, how come?
I have a Asus 2 in 1 tablet running windows 8.1. I tried to upgrade it via a thumb drive and it keeps on asking me for the product key. The tablet came preinstalled with windows 8 and I upgraded to windows 8.1. The product I have accessed in the settings is still the OEM key which is not accepted by windows.
View 2 RepliesIs it possible to upgrade windows vista to windows 10, and if so, which is the best way.?
View 2 RepliesI am running 8.1 pro 64 bit. I click the icon at the bottom, it says "this pc is compatible" and I click upgrade. I click continue and it checks for updates. None are found. No updates are hidden. I have read and seem to have all necessary updated already installed. Why would this be happening and how do I correct it to download 10? I feel like I "hid" the update a while back, but when I look at view hidden updates it isn't there, nothing is.
View 1 RepliesI upgraded to 10. Now my printer won't work.(can't find it). I got out my installion disc to reinstall. The disc won't run for me. Now, what do I do? (I tried another disc and it won't run either) Is there something I have to do other than just put the disc in like I did with 8?
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to rollback to Win7 after Win10 update. I've got some hardware that I want to use that's not compatible.
I've tried going to recovery and 'Go back to Win7' but it's telling me I need to delete the users I've created. The problem is that I removed the original user from Win7 so it wants me to delete the two users I created with Win10. Is there another way to uninstall? I know I won't be able to delete all users and I don't know how I can recreate the original account.
I do have a backup of my windows 7 install before I upgraded. Is my license still going to work or will it be inactive due to the upgrade?
OK I did my windows 10 upgrade now on three machines. two of the machines were single user windows 8.1 prior to upgrade, but one was a Windows 7 Pro machine. I ran the upgrade, but lost my kids user id log on. I had a user id for them set up as a user with no admin rights and no password. I am not opposed to it having a password, now that the kids are teenagers, but I can't figure out how to recreate the user ID so that it is attached to all there saved files. Lots of schoolwork was saved on there ID. I can access it with my admin user account, but want to restore there id.
View 3 RepliesI upgraded from Win 7 pro about a month ago hoping that would cure some problems I had with Win 7. It did not and Win 10 is working poorly too. I would like to do a clean install of Win 10 but not sure if I can get the correct Win 10 install file just from my Win 7 pro product key. Is there a download source for that since I have already upgraded to Win 10?
View 9 RepliesI got a legit copy of windows 7 and i did the update to windows 10, but my PC seems slow and it seems like there is a lot of junk and left over files... idk, i want to do a clean install, but i dont want to loose my genuine copy of windows. also, i have about 1tb of games installed on a seperate drive off steam. if i clean install and leave that drive as is, will the games still work or will i have to redownload them all?
View 9 RepliesI'm finally thinking to upgrade from W7 to W10.
Here's the situation at the moment:
1) 256GB System SSD
2) 1TB data HDD
3) 3TB Raid 1 HDD for backup
I want to mount a new 500GB SSD as primary system drive, so I was thinking to use this occasion to put W10 into my machine.
So my question is: Can I update to W10 as it is and then do a clean install changing the primary system drive while keeping the license?
I have done the update once, waited around 2/3 hours. i then reset my PC. i then did the update again, waited at least 5 hours. still stuck at 32% if there is a fix for this, i will do anything. i have a brother who did this update. My laptop is a pavilion 15 8gb ram radeon hd 7600g win 8.1
View 1 Repliesmy question is about Partitions in Windows 10.
I have three-
100MB (created from Windows 7, which I knew was needed for booting)
C Partition (Windows instllation)
450MB (created after upgrade)
So, do I still need the 100MB? and what is this new 450MB used for? Disk Management says that is empty. I don't want to delete anything for risk of making my system unbootable.
When upgrading I get"windows version is on a not supported folder" and all other settings greyed out but clean install. My C drive is on a SSD. Using MediaCreation tool .Tried various things (URL...)
View 9 RepliesI upgraded from 8.1 to 10 and lost LAN, so could not connect to internet. Troubleshooter advised a possible driver problem with the network card, however the Realtek GBT family card showed up as working in device manager. Researching Internet came up with no solution. I rolled back to 8.1, found updated drivers for the network card, installed them, and upgraded again. Still the same problem. A friend upgrading from 7 had the same problem and with the same network card, and wireless. I realised we both had PrivateFirewall installed, and as soon as I uninistalled it, Internet was working again.
View 4 RepliesI've successfully updated to Windows 10 on my two Surfaces, but there is some kind of issue on my desktop PC. The upgrade process from Windows 8 fails at about 71% total (Installing features and drivers at 91%), and the error I get is:
C1900101-40017 Windows Update ran into a problem.
When I click on "Get help with this error" I'm directed to a page with some general troubleshooting with Windows Update. I've run Windows update repair tool and it fixed some issues, but the installation failed again.
I have now tried freeing up more disk space which I admit was a bit tight and I'm preparing to run the update again. Still, I'd prefer if there was a more detailed error message or a log file where I could see what exactly went wrong, but there are no indications where I might find one (either in the error message, the troubleshooter, or Google). As it is, I'm shooting blind here and this will now be my fifth upgrade attempt.
I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 at the first opportunity on July 30 after registering with Microsoft. The upgrade appeared to progress smoothly and I was able to boot the computer to see the new desktop screen. However, very soon after this first boot, the computer asked me to restart to finish the upgrade. This I did and my computer has since been rendered unusable. Every time I boot, the computer gets stuck on the welcome screen. It displays the generic circular user icon, with my name written underneath and the word "Welcome" written underneath this. The animated "computer working" icon (the little dots which rotate again and again) is displayed next to this. However, it never goes away. I left the computer for 12 hours and nothing changed (the little dots kept on rotating all the while). The computer otherwise appears fine (ie. the multimedia buttons at the top of the keyboard work fine) but the OS cannot get past this screen, no matter what I do.
I have unplugged all USB devices. I have tried booting with the power cable in and out. I have gone into the Advanced tab of the setup menu and disabled (and re-enabled) things like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi top test if this makes a difference. Nothing does. As things currently stand, I am completely unable to use my computer and all my files are stranded. Several of them are desperately needed.
I have tried pressing F8 to boot the computer in safe mode, but this doesn't seem to work (it results in a back lit but otherwise black screen).
Microsoft said a clean install of Windows 10 can happen. How do you find the key? Do you have to use a key finder after the upgrade or will Microsoft make it easily available?
