I want to install a Samsung 850 EVO SSD and then make the HDD a storage drive. Would it be better to migrate Windows to the SSD or perform a fresh install by using the media creation tool?

Nov 14, 2015My computer is trying to install Update to Windows 10 Home, version 1511, 10586, but can't. It claims there is no system reserved partition, but there is. This computer was upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, and immediately after doing that I installed a Samsung SSD and migrated the system to it using the software that came with the SSD. The migration went well and I've been using Windows 10 for months.
All of a sudden, when trying to do some updates it claims it cannot update the system reserved partition. The partition is there, it's 100MB in size. So I tried booting from the install CD, which I burned to do the upgrade (so I know it's a good disc). My computer recognizes there's a disc in the DVD drive, but no matter how I set the bios boot order it will not boot from the DVD, so I can't do a repair on the SSD.
Computer Will Not Now Post After Clean Install
Aug 28, 2015I clean installed Windows 10 about 2-3 weeks before the problem. During the clean install, the computer crashed once, but was otherwise rock stable.
The first time I had the current problem I got an error saying something like Boot Failed and the Bios was reset to its default values. The computer restarted and was rock stable. I immediately did a memory test using Windows 10s memory tester and all was good. I also rebooted with no problems, but when I shut the computer down all I got was a blank screen.
I removed all the devices from the motherboard and tried using each of the two memory modules in each of the four memory slots, and it posted just once, but I was unable to replicate this when I shut the computer down and tried to restart the computer.
I tried several times to remove the battery to reset the the Bios to no avail.
I sent the motherboard to Gigabyte, but they said the motherboard works just fine!!!
What should my next step be? I highly doubt that it's the CPU, and that seems to suggest the power supply.
I am using the onboard DVI to my monitor. No gaming and no overclocking. I have a i5 Intel Haswell.

I was installing windows 10 on my computer then the power got cut and now I just get the following message when my computer boots up: The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
I have tried to restart the computer alot of times but I get the same message everytime I start my computer.
Computer Reboots To Safe Mode After Clean Install
Apr 2, 2016Yesterday my computer froze a number of times. It started off at about 3 minutes post boot up then got subsequently quicker with each restart. It eventually started freezing on the windows logo screen.
After about two windows logo screen freezes it automatically booted into safe mode. At this point I tried Clr CMOS, which had no apparent effect and then I disabled literally every startup program and that still had no effect.
Where I stand now:
- I have backed up all my data to an external drive.
- I have performed a "full reset" of my computer i.e. all personal data, installed apps and settings are wiped and windows reinstalls a clean version of itself.
- The set up of windows worked normally, but once it rebooted itself after set up was finished it automatically booted to safe mode.
I've exported an xml and a text document from speccy ....
Installation :: Can't Install OS - Reboot When Launching Installation
Feb 10, 2016I have been trying for hours to install windows 10 home on my newly built PC but i can't because there is a problem. I bought the usb version since i don't have an optical drive bay.
The problem: I can start the setup, but when i launch the installation my pc suddenly restarts and boots the usb again, so i get back at the 32/64 bit selection screen. This happens when i click "next" after choosing my drive (see included video). The drive i'm using is a Samsung 850 EVO SSD.
I have tried numerous things to fix it including: removing the ram (2x8GB) and putting it back, trying with one ram stick, removing the graphics card and use the integrated graphics card, use different usb ports, use different sata ports, removing the hdd (i can't even start the setup with the hdd plugged in).
I also downloaded Windows 10 from the official website and put it on an other usb stick, the same problem occurs.
I even tried with Ubuntu and the same problem happens!! When i launch the installation my pc reboots and the setup restarts!

Sep 3, 2015Im having trouble with my Windows 10 clean install. Once it installs it says it is resetting to complete installation, after it resets it will not load to the windows screen. It just loads bios and hangs with a prompt flashing on a black screen. I then used DISKPART to clean the disks and tried a new install in MBR and again in GPT formats, still the same result. What am I doing wrong? Are the RAID drives causing the problem? The machine was running fine before. I had a free upgrade from 7 and did the process of upgrading to 10 first before the clean install to activate the product. That went fine. I ran the hardware diagnostics from the BIOS and it failed the boot test with error code BIOHD3. Warning: No active partitions.

If I have a working Windows 10 on a HDD (or SSD), and I'm ready to junk that computer and want to move that "licensed" version of Windows 10 and the HDD to a new machine, how does Microsoft deal with the hardware ID since the ID is based on the old hardware and not the new?

Apr 14, 2016I have win 10 pro installed on a Samsung 850 pro SSD. In Bios it lists Windows Boot Manager as the #1 option. I selected Samsung ssd as my #1 option, saved and exited. Computer will not boot. Says No OS found-insert media and restart. Did that a couple times. No Boot. Set Bios back to Windows Boot Manager. Everything runs fine. Also Sata controller set to AHCI. Is this normal for Windows 10? In Device manager my storage controller says Microsoft storage space controller.

Installation :: Not Able To Install New ISO On SSD
Dec 15, 2014Basically, I got fed up with the daily problems from doing an "upgrade" from Win8.1 to Win10TP 32-bit and decided to install afresh from the latest ISO. Since I have a 64-bit processor and 8GB of memory (now) I thought I'd try the 64-bit version.
Booted from the USB stick, chose Install, clicked next, saw the drive with the formatted NTFS primary partition (empty) for Win10 and select that ...
And got the dreaded "we couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. See the setup log files".
OK...
So, I removed the partition, leaving an unallocated drive, and using the "New" icon, created a new one. That appeared to go OK. Selected it -- and got the same error message again!
Went through the same stuff with the 32-bit version -- same sequence, same error messages.
So, I have two questions:
1) When you're in the installer, how do you look at the setup log files to see the detail messages?
2) What is the "secret" to installing Win10 on an SSD? (Note, I had Win8 install just fine to this same SSD (Crucial 120GB) and move Win8.1 to a larger SSD when I bought a new one. So, I know this SSD works OK.
I ran into this same bunch of problems with the original Win10TP install -- which is why I ended up cloning Win8.1 to this SSD and then doing an "upgrade". But this time, I want to do a clean install...

Sep 5, 2015I made an ISO from a 10532 upgrade to install it on to another pc and here is what happens. Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style. OK, so I change my disk to MBR and get the same problem only this time it tells me the selected disk is of the MBR style. Either way it won't install. What do I do now???? ?

When I troubleshot and do a "reset this pc" it keeps coming up with "there was a problem resetting your pc" no changes were made". Nothing is working for me.

Jul 29, 2015I tried to install Windows 10. At first, it worked! I was all happy, so went on to login. Once I logged into my microsoft account, I was greeted by a blackscreen where I could move my mouse around. so, I rebooted, shift+clicked Restart, and got to the troubleshoot menu. From there, I clicked on "Reset My PC," since it appeared to be the only solution. It rebooted my computer, and suddenly it said something like "Windows restarted or shut down unexpectedly. Please press OK to continue the installation." I clicked OK, and it just rebooted and said the same thing, so I looked up a tutorial, which said to change something's value in regedit from 1 to 3. This sure made the "Windows restarted unexpectedly" go away, but now it just restarts repeatedly, as if it DID pop up, and I pressed OK. I tried multiple things, and I really don't want to send my PC to a repair.
