I installed the Windows 10 free upgrade on July 29th when it automatically downloaded. It installed with no problem but still has not activated. I have made no changes since the installation but the rollback feature will not work. Screenshot is shown below.
Is there any way around this to return to Windows 8.1?
I have a few issues with the Windows 10 install on my Asus X200 laptop and want to rollback to Win 8.1.
However, when I go into Settings/Update and Security/Recovery the only 2 options I have are 'Reset this PC' and 'Advanced setup'. The 'Go Back to Windows 8.1' option is not there.
Is the only option a reinstall of 8.1 from the USB backup I made?
I upgraded to windows 10 but now I want to roll back to windows 8.1. In the future if I want to perform a clean install in my laptop will my windows 10 still be activated?
View 3 RepliesI was intending to roll back to 7 before the final release of 10 so that be licence carries over, but while I was in the windows leading up to the roll back I ended up clicking cancel on the last window. Now the option to "Revert back to Windows 7" is no longer there. I have tried rebooting and I am just now seeing if installing updates will bring it back, but how I may be able to get this function back it would be pretty rad. I won't have to do a clean install of 7.

View 2 RepliesThe driver rollback is grayed out (unavailable) for devices in the Device Manager. From what I find doing a search, the user must be an "Administrator" or it will be unavailable. My account is an Administrator account. What do I have to change to fix this?
View 2 RepliesI have attempted to download windows 10 around 4/5 times, the download completes and states that my computer needs to restart upon which it claims it is configuring the windows 10 upgrade. I would assume from this point it would restart into the windows 10 configuration however each time I have tried it it restarts back into windows 8 as if nothing had happened.
My laptop then opens up windows update and says I am able to download windows 10. This is really frustrating as I can't even seem to get into the windows 10 setup.
As you can see I am attempting to download again but there is no trace at all of it attempting to install windows other than this failed update that you can see here.
I am using an HP Pavillion 15-n268a laptop.
Before installing Windows 10 I clean reinstalled my Windows 7 onto a new SSD but inadvertently left my BIOS boot drive as my old HDD. Now I find that I have my windows 10 boot files in the HDD and the rest of the OS on the SSD, so I am still dependant on that old HDD. It's quite old, and I tried to swap it out to a new HDD but found this issue.
I've tried BootRec /RebuildBcd, BootRec /FixMbr and BootRec /FixBoot, rebooting the PC between each, but without success. I want to make the SSD bootable, what have I missed?
I always install windows by this simple way and I have no problem so far. I extract iso file into one of drive with winrar. For windows 7 and 8 run setup.exe in the root drive and follow steps until that step I want select drive. If I want to replace windows, select windows drive and if I want have Dual Boot select other drive. Boot menu automatically is creating and is include two or more windows that I installed. For windows 8.1 and 10 because I can't select drive by run setup.exe in root folder, I run setup.exe into sources folder like you. Just two issues. One that windows 64 bit can't run into windows 32 bit and two that older version can't install by way of newer version. But Except two issues for other cases is best. Now I want to know your Opinion for this. is this way correct for installing windows?
View 5 RepliesWhen I downloaded Windows 8 Pro a few years ago my PC only had 1GB of RAM, so it installed the 32 Bit version. I have since added another GB of RAM. When Windows 10 is released, will I be able to download and install the 64 Bit version, or am I stuck with the 32 Bit version on this PC?

I find it somewhat difficult to understand what structure is expected of the xml and have been looking everywhere for an example file. In Windows 7 a sample was provided with the AIK but I can't find a similar folder with sample files in ADK 10.

i have had windows 10 installed on m,y pc since july 30ish....and ever since i upgraded to windows 10 from 8.1 the pc has been locking up every time i try to do anything...something as simple as opening my documents causes the pc to use 100% disk too the point i have to reset......i was hoping i could install windows 8.1 since i still have the key by using the upgrade assistant but when i tried to run it it said "this system is unsupported" and i have tried everything i could think of to fix the 100% disk issue nothing has worked
View 5 RepliesI have been testing this to see what might be going on. If you install Windows 7 in the UEFI configuration, which means Secure Boot is not enabled. Then you install Windows 10 using UEFI in Dual Boot mode, you end up with a Boot GUI with selections for Windows 10 and Windows 7.
If you select Windows 7, you will get the screen below, so you have lost the boot capability to Windows 7. Since Secure Boot is not enabled, I have to assume the Windows 10 boot manager will not recognize the Windows 7 EFI OS loader.
There are probably not a lot of folks running Windows 7 as UEFI, but something to keep in mind with the release of Windows 10. I have not tried installing Windows 7 after Windows 10 so not sure what it might do, assuming you could even boot the Windows 7 install media in UEFI mode.

Trying to do a PC Reset via the settings to wipe clean to sell it. When I click Reset in the Recovery menu of the Settings, I get a scrolling wheel for a second or so, and then nothing. It's as if something on the computer is blocking the computer from being reset.
When I try from the Advanced startup, it goes through a normal restart but doesn't do anything else.
I know that in the week that my mother had this computer, she managed to get a couple viruses from 3rd party search bars that she was prompted to download which were causing issues. I wonder if I didn't get it all cleaned off and there is something that won't let the computer reset?
I have an acer aspire r14 and it only has 1 slot for a HDD. I have bought a brand new SSD, which I am trying to replace the old HDD with. I have an external HDD where I have a system image backup of my windows 10. Since there is only one slot on the motherboard for a harddrive, i will have to take out the old HDD and put the SSD instead. Then my laptop won't have any data on it. My question is, how do i restore my windows 10 from the external HDD, on the new SSD. Does it work if i change boot order and just simply restore or is there something more complicated?
View 7 RepliesI have done the update once, waited around 2/3 hours. i then reset my PC. i then did the update again, waited at least 5 hours. still stuck at 32% if there is a fix for this, i will do anything. i have a brother who did this update. My laptop is a pavilion 15 8gb ram radeon hd 7600g win 8.1
View 1 RepliesI just did a fresh install of Windows 7 and activated the key, then i installed all of the latest updates. I then downloaded the media creation tool x64 to install windows 10 and when I get to the key activation my key doesn't work.
View 4 RepliesI've successfully updated to Windows 10 on my two Surfaces, but there is some kind of issue on my desktop PC. The upgrade process from Windows 8 fails at about 71% total (Installing features and drivers at 91%), and the error I get is:
C1900101-40017 Windows Update ran into a problem.
When I click on "Get help with this error" I'm directed to a page with some general troubleshooting with Windows Update. I've run Windows update repair tool and it fixed some issues, but the installation failed again.
I have now tried freeing up more disk space which I admit was a bit tight and I'm preparing to run the update again. Still, I'd prefer if there was a more detailed error message or a log file where I could see what exactly went wrong, but there are no indications where I might find one (either in the error message, the troubleshooter, or Google). As it is, I'm shooting blind here and this will now be my fifth upgrade attempt.
My current machine is running Windows 10 Pro. I upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro, using a windows 8.1 pro key if that matters.
My situation is that I ordered a new computer, and would like to deactivate my current one and use my current key on the new computer.
I have installed win10 on to my Brothers PC and kept getting the message `Inaccessible Boot Device` and was caught in a loop. I then downloaded the iso file on to a disc and re-installed successfully from there. However when we switch on the PC I get a screen which shows two boxes, One reads Win10 and the other Windows. When I click on Win10 the OS loads. How do I remove the other box?. I have installed Win10 on two other PC`s and have not seen this screen before.

When I installed windows 10 I used an installation disk and not the upgrade option. The previous windows I had was windows Single Language and the one I have now is Windows Pro.
