View 2 RepliesI see a long list of my windows 7 apps. Some have a size and date and other have the date and the words "unavailable".
What does this mean and if it means I can't run the app, what can I do about it? Do I have to find a Win 10 compatible version?
My settings app keeps freezing, but only when I select System > Apps & features and System > Storage, at least as far as I am aware of.
I am running build 10586, but already had this problem in build 10571, the first one I had as an Insider for PC.
Am having trouble installing optional features from Settings -> System -> Apps & Features -> Manage Optional Features? If I select any feature to install (such as English(GB) Handwriting) all that happens is the view refreshes and the feature isn't installed. Additionally, I constantly get notifications throughout the day that "Windows is adding features" and then immediately a notification that "Something happened and we couldn't install features"...

Additionally, I constantly get notifications throughout the day that "Windows is adding features" and then immediately a notification that "Something happened and we couldn't install features". These notifications emanate from the language pack trying to install additional features namely Basic Typing, Handwriting and Speech. The language is the default English US. I tried changing it, to no avail, the problem persists.
I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10, and then did a clean install of Windows 10. I'm on a cellular connection, and the option to mark the connection as non-metered is grey'd out, so I cannot change it - but my Windows Update seem to be working just fine.
I just finished a fresh install after going through several BSOD (which have now been corrected). I'm trying to change the settings and I can't changed date/time nor can I access the settings( Start>Settings). When I try and change the settings or date/time I get "This app can't open. Your trial period for this app has expired. Visit the Windows Store. Visit the Windows Store to purchase the full app." When I try to open Windows Store, same thing happens. Date/time is now an app?
View 2 Replies I first upgraded my laptop, in order to test Windows 10 before installing on my desktop. The laptop worked fine, my apps and peripherals still worked, so I went ahead and upgraded my desktop too. Realized that my user profile was corrupted, which resulted in me not being able to access settings, search, start menu, etc.
I've managed to mostly rebuild my original profile, the start button is working and I can search, but none of the "modern" apps show up anywhere - including the Store. On my laptop all this showed up automatically, and seems to be working fine. Search, Task View and Edge are present, but my start menu is a little, er, naked compared to what I'm seeing on my laptop. Do I need to manually download and install Store and get the other apps from there?
Some (3, out of maybe 20) of my installed Programs, all working perfectly well, are not listed in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to access the settings for Cortana, the program works fine and all but I want to access the settings but once I bring up the options and specifically click settings,Cortana freezes and forces me to have to end the task, and it happens every time. What can I do?
View 4 RepliesI recently tried using rainmaker to customize my desktop but decided I didn't want to use it and uninstalled it. Now my desktop icons wont auto sort to the bottom row no matter what I set my res to Unless my display scaling is at 100% (I prefer 125%).
View 1 Replieswhen I started my PC the icons on the Desktop were sorted by name. I suppose my brother accidentally click on the sort option yesterday. They get sorted by name even when I click on Refresh. Is there a way to disable it because it's really irritating to arrange them every time I start the PC or refresh the Desktop.
View 1 RepliesI have many albums on my computer. I used to be able to identify or sort them easily by genre with Windows media player. What now with Windows 10? How has this been improved?
View 1 RepliesTrying to add a new DNS IP address. Go to the adapter, go to the IPV4 properties and advanced and add the new DNS IP address. Every thing is fine until I close the adaptor window and it pops up an error "an unexpected condition occurred, not all of your requested changes in settings could be made"... Even if I make no changes at all and just open and close it I get this. Need to set the new DNS as first on the list.
View 1 RepliesEvery disk and/ or folder when I tick sort by name-ascending the damn thing reverts to date modified descending if I leave said disk or folder and return. I tried "Enable_Auto_Arrange_in_File_Explorer.bat" and "Reset_Folder_View_Settings_of_All_Folders_to_Default.bat" courtesy of Brink to no avail.
Is there a way to get file explorer back to default sort (by name-ascending) for all disks, folders and sub-folders at once?
It was all fine last week and I've no recollection of playing with any settings.
I tried to change the windows update settings and I can't! I get a message saying that some settings are managed by my system administrator! I am the only user in this laptop with administrator privileges.
How comes that I can't change the settings?
I have just received updates for Windows 10, nd now when I boot up, I get a message, a copy of which I have attached to this post. This is after I sign in.
It matters not how many times I reboot, this message pops up each time.
Following instructions from a game manufacturer I changed the 'read only' settings for users / documents folder. Win 10 now disfunctions (instable, search unavailable, chrome closing incorrectly, etc). How should I proceed to restore the folder settings without restoring windows completely?
View 1 RepliesI like to sort some of my folders by date and for some reason I can't understand, when I open an image with WPV, it gets sorted by name instead of date (the folder remains the same, it's just the WPV that screws everything). If I wanted to see whatever I have inside the folder by name, I would just sort it by name for god's sake.
View 4 RepliesI do not want Windows 10 to update and restart my PC automatically - I want to decide when that is done.
In the Settings it is fixed at 'Automatic' update.
I have followed two suggestions to alter the setting that searches turned up, but neither have worked so far.
NOTE:
Here are the 2 Methods I tried.
When I connect an iPhone to my Win10 PC it's importing my photos to a location where I don't want them to go.
How do I change this setting?
1. Initially I couldn't open photos on Laptop after I installed Windows 10 3 days ago.
2. Told in Account Settings to Verify account, Clicked on Verify and no response every time.
3. Changed to User account and now cannot change back to Administrator Account.
4. Nothing in my settings will respond when clicked.
Tried troubleshooting links and all sorts though to no avail.
Installed a chinese application earlier called Kuwo Music Player. I have been using this particular application for quite some time and today is the first occasion where I decided to give it a go on Windows 10 too. Then came the problem, I realised that the settings to change the system locale ( this is necessary otherwise the chinese characters cannot be displayed) is no longer where it was in Windows 7/8. I too couldn't find any useful results on the Internet. where I can find and change that setting, or any other working solution would do.
View 1 RepliesThe area in the display settings to change font sizes etc is grayed out and I can not find any way to make my various text sizes bold..
View 1 RepliesSo I'm wondering how I can get the trackpad to behave the way it did in Win7, with scrolling being controlled by one finger on the side and bottom of the trackpad, instead of a 2 finger gesture in the center. It seems like I have all the settings set properly, however it hasn't changed. Am I missing something?
View 1 RepliesI have looked in the Settings personalize Tab and can not locate the time tab for setting interval for picture changing? any other location it may be located in?
View 1 RepliesTwo questions:-
1. Any simple method to add titles, comments, or tags, to folders in Windows 10?
There was something called HobComment that worked on XP but there does not appear to be a Win10 X64 version.
2. Is it possible to have File Manager ignore definite and indefinite articles (the, a, an) when sorting by name?
