Installation :: Clone A Disc - Does It Just Copy Programs And Install Apps
Nov 9, 2015
If I clone a disc with Acronis true home image . Does it just copy programmas and apps I have installed? This would save me a lot of time if this is true. For example if I have Windows 10 Home installed when I backed it up and installed pro, would it keep my windows 10 professional licence and Office Etc. On to my new install.

how can I install Windows 10, that it uses the less disc space, it can? My problem is, that I have laptop with 64 GB SSD, and after upgrading (from windows 8.1) to Windows 10, the used space is more than 35 GB, so now I have a very little free disc space now.

I recently upgraded my laptop, specifically "Acer aspire v5-473pg" into windows 10 and now I'm trying to do a clean install. The problem is there's a lot of partition on the partition menu when proceeding into a clean install and I don't know a lot about them. My laptop comes with win 8 single L and I didn't upgrade to windows 8.1, is it safe to delete this partitions (i'll attach some images)
btw my laptop didn't come up with installation disc or recovery disc. Can I just delete them all? I mean wouldn't they harm or do any corrupt files in my laptop? I found out that those recovery partition is essential if I don't have any recovery backups and MSR partition is from windows itself. Any step that I must do to clean install windows 10? should I just format Partition 4:Acer"? would it still be considered clean install? or should I delete something from this partitions?

I have an existing Windows 10 computer with corrupt W10 image that Microsoft says I need to totally reinstall. I also have a new SSD waiting to be installed. Due to corruption I do not want to clone. W10 USB has been created with Media creation tool. The questions - Do I need to format the SSD before W10 install? If so, how? Do I need to partition the SSD? If so how and with how many partitions of what size? I assume then I can unplug the HDD, plug in the SSD, boot from the USB, and it would install W10 onto the SSD.

Received a MSI laptop with pre-installed W8.1. Planning to install a new SSD on m.2 slot. I have several options to update to W10.
p.s: I am keeping both SSD and HDD in my laptop
1) Clone from old HDD to new SSD using MSI burn recovery. Then update to W10
2) Upgrade to W10 on my old HDD. Get W10 activated. Perform a clean install on SSD. Lastly, format my old HDD as secondary drive

My previous laptop running windows 10 finally gave up the ghost and died on me. Not a hard drive issue but power problems (in trying to fix it I broke some of the solder joints), any way it was 5 years old and was due to be replaced, however the hard drive was absolutely fine. So I bought a new laptop with a shiny new 1tb hard drive with windows 10 pre-installed.
So having used Macrium before (when I installed a 256gb SSD) I decided to leave the new laptop as a clean install and reinstall any programs that I still needed. Guess what, it seems that there was an awful lot of stuff that I had accumulated that I just didn't need any more. After copying some documents over for work and installing a couple of essentials total space used including OS is less than 75gb.

So I built my first PC. On Amazon I just purchased Windows 10 OEM for a one time use.. URL...I was wondering is there a way I can install Windows to a USB instead of using the disc or do I have to use the CD?

So, my hard drive recently went out on my computer. I'm broke, so I pulled a hard drive out of an old computer my friend gave me a couple years ago. That hard drive has a non-genuine copy of windows 7 ultimate edition. The previous hard drive had Windows 8.1, and I have a valid product key for that, so I figured "Eh, what the heck. I'll just install 10 and use my Windows 8 product key to validate it for the free upgrade."
Now, the problem becomes that the copy of windows 7 on the hard drive is 32 bit, and the rest of the computer is built for a 64 bit OS, and I don't like the idea of not using the full capabilities of my system. I've got 8GB RAM in here. Only using half of it feels horrible. So I'd like to get 64 bit Windows 10. I went and downloaded the iso through microsoft's media thing, then burned it to a DVD5 using a separate tool called imgburn.
However, when I boot to the DVD, the blue, flat windows logo shows up, it hangs for awhile doing nothing, the spinning dots show up, then it immediately crashes, giving me a blue screen.
The blue screen has the frowny face and the "Something went wrong" and the error code 0xc000021a. A bunch of googling shows me a whole lot of problems with the system on boot, but nothing at all related to installing windows 10 and getting that error. Microsoft's site has been less than useful, only telling me that there was either a problem with WinLogon.exe or csrss.exe, with no information about how to trouble shoot that problem.
I've tried making more copies of the disc (I'm out of DVDs now), and I redownloaded the iso and switched burner programs for the final disc.

I have recently upgraded my laptop that was running windows 8.1 to windows 10. When I was doing this, I was asked if I wanted to create a copy of the install to upgrade my other computers. I also have an older desktop pc running windows xp. Is it ok to use the copy to upgrade the xp, as I recently found out that you need to pay to upgrade from xp. Basically, by having one copy of windows 8.1, does this allow me to upgrade another pc running xp for free?

System that doesn't use the disc drive for dvd's or video disc format is wrong - taking away something that now, you have to pay for. Do the wright thing Microsoft and reinstate the disc media player.

I bought a Blu-Ray disc drive for my Windows 10 PC. I can see the files with Windows Explorer.
When I insert a Blu-Ray disc, nothing happens.
Windows Media Player does not play it. Does it support Blu-Ray?

Trying to install Windows 10 Pro 64 bit on an older desktop computer (AMD 4000+ CPU, Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard) and the boot disc won't get past the Windows logo splash screen; normally it would load the language and keyboard options after this, but in my case the process just hangs at the Windows logo and does not go past that.
I also notice that eventually the boot disc stops spinning in the drive, but the Windows logo remains. I've tried switching DVD drives but the same happens on another drive that I know is working

I updated a Lenovo Laptop from it's original Windows 8 (not 8.1) to Windows 10. The Laptop is working fine with all the updates and added apps install. Now, how do I create a reinstall, recovery or image disc in order to restore the OS prior to the time just before creating this backup disc? Again, this was an update to Windows 10, not a clean install.

With Win7 I used to be able to copy a recent or pinned file from any MS Office jump list by right clicking and selecting Copy from the context menu.
For Win 10 the menu is still there but when you r/c the file it doesn't appear to be in focus and consequently nothing is saved to the clipboard. This is certainly the case for Excel and Word , I expect it's the same for all Office apps. Can't find anything applicable in the usual places?

When I had Windows 7, I had literally every single thing in My Documents. Every song, every file, every tax record, every picture...literally everything. That way, when I backed up my hard drive, I just plugged in the My Passport Ultra drive, synced it with My Documents, and everything backed up.
But in Windows 10, I'm seeing Frequent Folders that include ThisPCMusic and ThisPCDocuments. So I figured I would just drag the music folder into the Documents folder, and it would just create yet another subfolder within Documents (other subfolders within Documents include "Resume", "Travel Info," etc. So I figured "Music" would just be another subfolder, as was the case with my Windows 7 setup.
Instead, it made a copy of the music folder, which is not what I want. I want to actually migrate the Music folder into Documents as a subfolder. I thought that maybe I could just copy it over and delete the original Music folder, but what if the copy doesn't work because the original version has been wiped out.

I just discovered that none of my computers have the Volume Shadow Copy service running and none have the startup set to automatic. I have always assumed that this service should start at boot time. I have started the service on all the computers and set the startup to automatic. Shouldn't that have been the state set by the installer? The manner of installation doesn't seem to be a factor because some of the computers were upgraded via GWX and some were upgraded and then clean installed afterward. I have reported this via the Feedback app.

I was unable to update AVG free due to an error. It said that something was being installed (there wasn't though) and it had to be finished first. I got the same error when trying to uninstall it so I had to use an AVG tool to force remove it from my system (I had this error for days before removing it so a restart did not work). Now I don't have an antivirus on my pc and I get an installation error when trying to install it again. Instead, I tried Panda free this time. Error. So I'm thinking it's not the antivirus, it's something in windows 10 that's malfunctioning but I don't know what.

I wish to remove from "All Apps" some Programs. I do not wish to uninstall them, but just to remove them from that list.
I found that I can add here X:UsersUsernameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu things to autostart, but thats mostly it.
As example, i wish to remove "Steam" folder and Link in the "All Apps" .... but I cannot find anything how to do, besides of a uninstall
Same goes for lots of other stuff I get from Windows as default added... Cortana, Groove-Music, Mail, Contacts, Xbox and what not. I am simply not using all that stuff and it just bothers me that i have to scroll everytime so long to get where i want.
Is there a way, an Program or something that I can hide/remove here all unwanted Links to stuff I do not use at all?
In Win7 I had such a neat and completely clean Startmenu. This Tiles are nice, but I want to have everything clean and the way I want it, and not how the OS is forcing me to have. Like Accesoire... that Point in Win7 really came down to the Stuff i am SOMETIMES using, everything else was removed. IF i need something, i can check where to find that Application via Explorer.... and well, that never happened till now
What Application I can use for a cleanup?
