Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media After Installing From USB?

Nov 10, 2015

After installing a 32 bit windows 10 from a USB by mistake I decided to upgrade to the 64 bit version. I have 3 hard drives, one of which is an ssd that I am trying to install the OS to. After downloading and setting up the media creation tool and creating a USB I restarted and boot form USB.

I followed the steps and deleted the existing windows 10 partitions on my dad and tried installing straight to the unallocated space. After the installation completed it restarted the installer, which is not what happened when I previously successfully install windows 10. I then changed the boit order to have my ssd first and rebooted, which gave me the Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media error.

Confused I loaded up the installed and there were correctly partitioned installs already on the ssd ( although one partition looked a little small). I tried reinstalling windows 10 with the same result over and over.

Installation :: Creating A Bootable USB When Only Have Contents Of ISO

Aug 1, 2015

It's possible you might have the contents of the ISO but not the actual ISO image itself on HDD.It's still possible to create a bootable USB using purely MANUAL commands for this example assume Disk nr is 7 and the USB stick is on drive H. The files from the ISO are in say folder WINDVD on drive E here's what to do.

1) open CMD as administrator

2) DISKPART

3) LIST DISK

4) SELECT DISK 7 (remember our example above)

5) CLEAN

6) CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

7) ACTIVE

8) FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK

9) EXIT (don't close the cmd prompt though)

10) CD E:WINDVDBOOT (again from example contents of ISO are on drive E)

11) BOOTSECT /NT60 H:

12) After 11) finishes - takes 1 sec approx. copy the entire contents of directory WINDVD to the USB stick as is - copy contents in same folder layout as on the disk - don't have WINDVD as the high level - copy CONTENTS so ist folder on USB stick will be BOOT.

13) now you've got a bootable USB.

Installation :: Clean Install - Creating Necessary Partitions?

Aug 6, 2015

I have upgraded my Windows 8.1 system to Windows 10 through the Windows update app and have created an installation media USB stick. I want to clean install, something I am very familiar with, but not since the new uefi, gpt, legacy etc. that I'm not familiar with. If I do a clean install and delete the entire disk, Windows will create the partitions and install the necessary "data" to run the computer correctly? I don't need to save the data on the hidden partitions that are present now?

Boot Up With USB Flash Media Drive

Apr 29, 2015

Installed Win 10 and get it working. My problem is I have Win 8.1 Pro on a Samsung EVO SSD T-1. I went out and bought a Samsung 225 gig SSD HDD to install Win 10. I downloaded the Win 7 ISO and it worked perfectly. When I first tried to install Win 10 on the boot up with the USB flash media drive I went into setup on Win 10 and when I selected the new hard drive for the installation it gave me a message that it could not install on that drive. The other partition on the drive said system info. I hit delete and it installed. I don't know if I should have re formatted.

I go to bios setup on my motherboard Asus Z-97 and select Samsung EVO and it goes directly into Win 8.1 Pro. If I reboot and select in the bios Windows media drive it boots into Win 10. My question is I thought (based on all the screen shots I see here in the forum) that when I boot up my computer it should take me to a blue screen with 2 selection boxes Win 8.1 pro or Win 10 and I should be able to select.

I would rather see the 2 boxes where I can select one of them. My last question is when I bring up my Win 10 the fonts on the menus and etc. are so small I cannot hardly read them. I am using a LG 21.9 3440 x 1440 ultra wide monitor and have my text at largest and my screen zoomed to 150.

Installation :: Resetting Laptop Using Old Media Installation Files

Jan 4, 2016

i'm having an issue with my laptop, i think it's something called a memory leak because my RAM won't go below 80% even when my laptop is idle. I've been searching the internet for answers on how to fix this problem but didn't find any luck. I've already wasted an entire day trying to figure out how to fix this, I even tried to do a system restore but i forgot to save any restore points. I'm hoping Resetting/Refreshing would be the answer but i'm facing another problem; My media installation tool or USB Bootable Drive (I don't know if they're the same. It's what i used when i installed Windows 10) is that of a previous Windows 10 version & build. Would it work If i use it to Reset my laptop? I'm currently using the latest version, build 10586.36.

Laptop Crashed / Boot Media Missing And BIOS Can't Detect Drive

Oct 6, 2015

My laptop suddenly crashed and now it says "Boot media missing" when I restarted. After that, it always takes me to "Preparing Automatic Repair" and then the 'Troubleshoot' menu.

In the 'Troubleshoot' menu, it has two options: 'Reset this PC' and 'Advanced options'.

When I choose "Reset this PC", it asks me whether to keep my files or remove everything. I've tried both and it displays an error. When I choose to keep my files, it says that drive is locked and tells me to unlock the drive and try again. When I choose to remove everything, it says that there is a problem resetting the PC.

And then I've moved to "Advanced options". The options are: System Restore, System Image Recovery, Startup Repair, Command Prompt, UEFI Firmware Settings, and Go back to previous build. I've tried all of these and it all returned an error. When I chose UEFI Settings, it restarted to BIOS/UEFI setting. And my BIOS/UEFI can't detect my hard drive. DISKPART from Command Prompt can't detect it either.

My project is due in 3 days and I've got all my files in there. Is there a way to fix this? Or to recover my files?

How To Get Installation Media

Dec 9, 2015

Got a new DELL that comes with windows 7 Pro. and I upgraded to windows 10 Pro with no issues. Later I found out that I "should " have Upgraded using the "Windows 10 Media Creation Tool" instead of "Get Upgrade". How can I get the installation Media now with the Iso image, so that I can make a copy onto a DVD, so that I can do a clean installation in the future.?Is it that the "product key" or digital entitlement ONLY works for this Dell machine alone and NOT transferable?

Installation :: Wrong Drive Letter In Msconfig / Boot In Dual Boot System

Jan 27, 2016

In my desktop I have two hard disks ( disk 0 and disk 1 ) . Disk 1 is a clone of disk 0 created by Macrium Reflect
Disk 0 : ( C: ) windows 10 pro , upgrade from windows 7 , ( E: ) windows 8.1 pro , ( G: ) Storage partition
Disk 1 : clone of disk 0

problem description : I see in msconfig / boot a wrong listing

windows 10 ( C:WINDOWS) : Current OS ; Default OS

windows 8.1 pro ( H:WINDOWS ) instead of ( E:WINDOWS )

Nevertheless the dual booting works fine as well as the shift between the disks via BIOS.

The question is , could I fix the situation using the EasyBCD of Neosmart Technologies to edit the bootloader ?

I see can change drive letter H: to E: and save the change , am I right or wrong ? or any other way ....

Installation :: Upgrade Path From Dual Boot Back To Single Boot

Sep 24, 2015

My laptop has dual boot - Windows 7 and Windows 10. My Win7 environment is my main working environment with lots of programs installed and important files. I installed the Win10 environment just to play around with 10 during the technical preview. Now, I would like to disable the 10 environment and upgrade the 7 to 10. Am I able to do this, or have I already "used up" my one upgrade on this computer's Windows license?

I notice that in Windows 7 I have not received the icon in the notification area that invites me to upgrade to 10. This makes me think I might have used up my chance to upgrade.

My end goal is to have a single Windows 10 environment. Note that the reason I want to upgrade my 7 environment to 10 is because I don't want to have to re-install all of my programs and files into the current 10 environment.

Installation :: How To Create Recovery Media

Jul 31, 2015

I originally purchased Windows 8 and upgraded to 8.1. I installed the Windows 10 upgrade via the downloadable Windows 10 Installation Tool and burning the ISO to a DVD. I understand that this will work to upgrade my system should I need to recover but will this still work after the 1 year free upgrade period? Also, how to confirm if the ISO downloaded via the Installation Tool will work as a repair disk to recover using a system image? If that's the case I would be content with that, as it's how I've always done backups since Windows 7.

Installation :: Image From Media Tool?

Aug 27, 2015

i decided to reinstall everything starting with windows 7 then upgrading or using the free upgrade that i initialy used to get windows 10. but it seems that offer is no longer on the start menu bar task bar.

i have the img of windows 10 pro burned from media creation tool to a dvd.

can i use the dvd to simply just upgrade windows 7 to windows 10?

or do i need a serial key for windows 10?

i had some trouble with curse client and some audio stuttering in windows 10 when i used the free upgrade, but it didn't show until after i installed call of duty black ops III where it said i needed audio below 44000khz (sound blaster Z) to be able to open the game....... : and a bunch of bsod out of nowhere. i havent had a bsod on windows 7 for over a year so idk where that came from.

is there a upgrade function from the dvd (windows 10 pro; as in the free upgrade) or do i need a serial specifically for win 10?

Unable To Create Installation Media From All 3 Of PCs

Aug 17, 2015

This worked for me a few weeks back. Today I am looking to try to reload Windows 10 on one of my desktop PC's that has just never been right after upgrade from Windows 7. I figured, trying a clean install is in order. The trouble is, as of today, the MediaCreationTool is not working for me. I get the same error on all 3 of my Windows 10 computers: "Setup couldn't start properly. Please restart your PC and try again." I can say that the mediacreationtool worked splendidly a few weeks back, but I have already repurposed that jump drive so the media is no longer in tact.

Specifically, the tools on this page are not working for me: [URL] ...

My PC's have always been real smooth, but now all three are just not quite 'right'. Mouse disappearing hear and there while I am dragging it. Pauses before I can type, etc. Just weird random anomalies that are far from normal.

Installation :: Media Creation Tool Will Not Run

Aug 1, 2015

The Media Creation Tool will NOT run at all on my Windows 7 Ultimate desktop and my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro with Windows 8.1. When I try to run it, nothing happens after clicking the message that allows it run. I know it does not start immediately but I have successfully run it on two other PCs with Windows 8.1. I've spent the better part of the last four days trying to get the Windows 10 upgrade installed on my desktop.

After starting the "tool", I've even let the PC sit overnight to see if it would ever start to run. It never does. I've rebooted numerous times and I've also tried running it from that PC, from a network drive and from a USB drive ("Run as Administrator" does NOT work either). Nothing works. I was able to create both a USB and DVD setup disk using the Media Creation Tool on a different Windows 7 Ultimate PC so I've also tried using both of those options to upgrade my desktop PC. If I boot from either the USB drive or the DVD, I can install a new copy of Windows 10 but, of course, cannot enter a product key that works so that does not work.

However, if I boot normally and then run Windows 10 setup.exe from either the USB or DVD, it does NOT run at all (just like with the Media Creation Tool). For a brief moment the other day, I thought I might have found the problem... I forget that I was starting to run low on disk space on that SSD. It was down to 21.6Gb available which, I think, should have been enough disk space but it might be borderline.

So I did manage to get the free disk space to more 50Gb. That, however, did NOT work at all. I've tried about every possible scenario multiple times and have gotten nowhere over the last four days. I even tried Microsoft chat support yesterday but started off with 454 people in front. I wasn't in front of my computer when my turn finally arrived -- so I missed it. Haven't tried it again but don't expect much from that anyway.

Installation :: New SSD - No Bootable Media Found

Aug 1, 2015

I got myself a new 120GB SSD for the jump to Windows 10. I install the OS without problems from a DVD disk, boot up and begin to install stuff as steam, spotify and GeForce experience.

I remove the installation disk from my DVD reader and reboot. After the BIOS screen I get a message that claims there are no bootable media.

With the installation disk in the DVD reader everything works fine, I get an option to boot the installation even though the DVD is nr 2 in boot order after my sole storage unit.

I have tried to use all those bootrec commands to restore, repair or create a new bootmgr and so on. No installations of Windows can be found either. Been doing this for 6 hours now. I have reinstalled windows 10, 8 and 7. All with the same problem.

I plugged in one of my older 60GB SSDs and successfully installed Windows 10 on it. No sign of any boot problems. Booted without the installation disc. Same SATA connection on the motherboard. No changes in boot order.

So my thoughts about this right now, is it possible my new SSD have a defect from the beginning? Something in the hardware/hardware controller?

And yes I have searched around and Everyone seems to get it working with bootrec commands. I don't...

Installation :: Turning Off Secure Boot / Fast Boot Required?

Apr 29, 2015

As I get ready to do a clean install of 10074 I am curious about the need to disable secure boot and fast boot options. If I do disable secure boot do I need to enable legacy boot?I have had limited success with previous installs to a 2nd hard drive and the problems that arose always seem related to dual booting.

In one instance I did a clean install of 10061 and had left secure boot enabled. In order to get dual boot working I had to disable secure boot, and upon rebooting I needed to change it back to secure. I then made Win 8.1 the default boot and then Win 10 would never boot from the menu, it would just take me back to the boot menu and I could boot into Win 8.1.

Installation :: Convert Dual Boot Install To Normal Boot

Jun 15, 2015

After several weeks of testing I'm ready to go full on Windows 10 and want to get rid of Windows 7 but I have some partitioning issues I want to clean up. I currently have Windows 7 on drive 0 (360 GB) and Windows 10 on drive 1 (500 GB). Both are SATA drives and RAID is enabled in the bios but not active.

What I think I'd like to do is simply swap the drives physically so that Drive 0 has my current Windows 10 install on it and make it primary boot active etc. The drive with Windows 7 on it would become drive 1 and I would delete the Windows 7 partition and re-partition it with a clean empty partition just for extra space.

Second question, any advantage to using this drive configuration in a RAID setup?
