Installation :: Deleting Previous Partition
Aug 26, 2015
I just upgraded my laptop from windows 8 to win 10. The free upgrade of course did not delete my files from window 8 so I went ahead and installed windows 10 on to my USB and booted from it for a clean install. While installing win 10 however I managed to do it on my C drive. I believe my previous OS was on D drive as when I go into my system properties now, C drive = 373 GB free from 393 GB which has the windows icon over it to show that OS is inside it and the 'D' drive has only 43 GB free from 393 GB capacity.
I would like to free up my D drive and delete all previous files and maybe also remove partition and only have one storage which is C drive. How to do it? Do I just go into my D drive and delete all the files inside it? such program files x86 etc? while running window 8 I managed to get a lot of spyware, adware etc on my system and hence why I preferred a clean install of windows 10.

I DO NOT have two OS's installed just one.
However after installing it says that both my HDD and SSD are both system, boot, hibernate.
I can not format or delete my HDD it says that it can not do so because the empty, blank HDD is a "Healthy, hibernate, boot, system drive"
How do I go about deleting this.

while trying to troubleshoot a lousy 1.5TB WD drive I had accidentally deleted and recreated the partition on a different USB drive without noticing. What are my options? I don't have a spare drive to restore to. The drive was only using 350GB of 900gb, but it has been filled and erased several times without defragmenting. I have it unplugged now.
It's not entirely a disaster; aside from my (dubiously obtained) movie collection there's nothing really that I need and can't redownload or have on my SSD.

Anyway, a while ago, I was playing with booting installations from a HDD, which worked, but now it seems I'm stuck with the partition I used to store the installation on.
So I have two questions:
1. To delete the H partition, I need to first set the C one to active, correct?
2. Is it even safe to delete the partition since it's a "system" partition?
The H partition is empty as far as general files go, but since it's bootale, it always shows up as a boot option, which is mildly annoying.

When I installed windows 10, something went wrong and I could no longer could connect to the internet because some protocols were missing. Also, within five minutes of starting using my computer, the start menu stopped working. I have tried all the fixes I could find for the start menu including sfc /scannow and multiple powershell fixes. None of them worked. When I use the windows 8.1 install disk it, I get a message saying that something happened, setup has failed to determine supported install choices. Windows 10 is difficult to navigate and always seems to be missing some software.

I was installing W10 and got that black screen with the big white circle. Then, once it restarted. When it booted again, suddenly a screen came up saying "Attempting to Recover Installation" then saying "Restoring your previous version of Windows....". Why does this happen? Is there any way I can change where it boots into?

After my Windows 10 upgrade was finished I created a "Recovery drive" on a 32 GB flash drive and it filled the drive to 26.8 GB. I just finished a clean install on my hard disk with all unallocated space and decided to make a new "recovery drive" on the old flash drive when I was finished. I did "check" to include system files and the process took quite a while but only 3.5 GB are now being used on the flash drive. Why such a difference in data this time than before? Is this drive okay?

I recently messed up a previous Win10 installation and had to use gparted (kept saying the drive was locked when I tried to use Recovery CD) to delete partition and start from scratch. Everything installed fine like before but now when I start up or restart laptop I get the option to boot either Windows 10(previous install) or Windows 10 on volume 2(new working install).
How do I get rid of that previous install option so i can go straight to boot up?

Due to a reinstall my laptop had a dual boot system with windows 10 twice installed. Now I was finished with the migration and I used EaseUs Partition Master to remove the old partition and add the space to the new partition. But now my windows doesn't boot anymore. It gets to the windows logo and the waiting icon under it, but it doesn't go to the user logon screen.
The old situation before the resize was:
Win 10 (old) 30 gb
Win 10 (new) 220 gb

What I have HDD Win 7 Home Premium Activated SSD Win 10 (Upgraded Win 7) Activated Dont have a Boot Manager Can choose Boot up Disk from BIOS at startup If I choose Win 10 - All Boots Well, No problem When I choose Win 7 after using Win 10 Chkdsk runs and deletes thousands of Files Finishes chkdsk and Boots Win 7 fine Win 7 Boot after Win 7 Boot - no chkdsk and Boots fine I think it might be making changes to make it the C Drive - but thats without knowledge both Win 10 and Win 7 use C drive When installing Win 7 before the Upgrade, I installed to "unalocated" space which I read would give it a C Drive as alternative to Creating into a Drive Letter eg G Drive I could live with it as it is, if it were not for the Long Startup deleting etc to Win 7 - sooner or later the deleting would malfunction I am at a standstill and dont want to tinker and screw everything up...

I have a new system running under Win 10 on which I want to use an SSD as the boot drive with all my s/w and a WD 6TB Black HDD for my data. However, when I format the 6TB drive it shows up as two unallocated segments, one of 2048.00 GB and the other with 3541.03 GB. The smaller one is available for a simple partition under Win 10 Disk Management, but actions for the larger one are all greyed out. When I make a simple partition in the smaller one the option to extend the partition is greyed out. What is the secret to using the full 6TB under Windows 10?

"We couldn't update the system reserved partition". I would like to upgrade to Win10 on this pc.

I'm getting the Reserved Partition error when I try to install Win 10 on my Wn 7 rig.
My SSD is an EVO 500
partitions are
Data 100MB
C: 419GB
Unallocated 46.58GB - this is my Over Provision Partition.
I guess I need need to increase my Data Partition to about 350MB. I want to use Minni Partition Wizard. Should I Reduce the Front End of my C partition? And use that space to grow the Data Partition?

I did a clean install on a new SSD that I had previously formatted and neglected to delete the partition ending up without a MSR partition. I've already installed lots of applications so starting over would not be something that I'd want to do. What are possible problems that I could be looking at going forward?

I have an SSD with WIN7 installed. It has no System Reserved Partition (SRP) and thus no boot files on that nonexistent partition.
I've read here that individuals with a SRP of only 100mb have had issues installing WIN 10 and that those issues were resolved by expanding the SRP from 100mb to 450mb.
Will WIN 10 install if I have no SRP? Will it merely alter the boot files on my C drive?

Because of a problem with 10 a tech told me to revert to 10270. I backed up everything important to my D: drive first. I did a complete formatting of C:. Then upon installing 10270 onto C: I first blew away the partitions on D:, realizing what I had done just after hitting the keys.
I have run Easeus's free Partition Recovery software but it finds absolutely nothing, even in deep scan.
Is there another reliable method with which to attack the problem of restoring the partition tables for D:?

Recovery Partition...
The thread above reminded me...
My laptop has a partition with Windows 7 on it for recovery purposes. It was a long time ago, but I think I created it from an ISO. I can't even remember how it should be used!
