Installation :: Downgraded Back To Win 7 - Error 0x00000007b
Oct 11, 2015
last night I decided to downgrade from Windows 10 and go back to my old windows 7. The problem I have now is that my computer won't load windows, I get blue screen of death with an error code 0x00000007b. I had an restore image for Win 10 but it won't work now. Safe mode also won't load, and windows won't repair by itself.
Mind you, I didn't do anything but let computer downgrade itself back to win 7.
how can I get my computer back and running again, or I just need to install new system?

A friend of mine is trying to upgrade his PC using ISO but he keeps getting an error that keeps restoring his PC back to Win8.1. His words "it finishes the install, gets to the copying files stage., then after a while it starts restoring my windows 8.1 back." The error code on the screenshot is 0x8007000E-0x2000C with the message "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation."

I'm trying to rollback to Win7 after Win10 update. I've got some hardware that I want to use that's not compatible.
I've tried going to recovery and 'Go back to Win7' but it's telling me I need to delete the users I've created. The problem is that I removed the original user from Win7 so it wants me to delete the two users I created with Win10. Is there another way to uninstall? I know I won't be able to delete all users and I don't know how I can recreate the original account.
I do have a backup of my windows 7 install before I upgraded. Is my license still going to work or will it be inactive due to the upgrade?

I originally followed the path to upgrade my 8.1 Pro to Windows 10. Everything went fine and I created the USB during the process. Activation was OK.
Then after a few days and some unusual problems I reloaded my last Image of 8.1 Pro.
Question is Can I go back and just do a clean install since I have already did the upgrade process?

I'm trying to roll back to the OEM Win 7 on this machine. On the setting page "Updates & security" the options under "recovery" did NOT include rolling back to Win 7. The only choice was to roll back to the previous build. I thought perhaps I would have to work my way back to 7 build, by build. I started out with 10041, then 10130, then 10240. I clicked the "Back to previous build, hoping. Well, it went back to 10130 no problem. However, that is it. Going the Setting, Updates& Security route within this roll back of 10130 there is no way to keep going back to finally get back to Win 7.

When I installed windows 10, something went wrong and I could no longer could connect to the internet because some protocols were missing. Also, within five minutes of starting using my computer, the start menu stopped working. I have tried all the fixes I could find for the start menu including sfc /scannow and multiple powershell fixes. None of them worked. When I use the windows 8.1 install disk it, I get a message saying that something happened, setup has failed to determine supported install choices. Windows 10 is difficult to navigate and always seems to be missing some software.

I installed the upgrade to W10 and I think I should have waited. Things are slow to open and lockups, frozen screens and streaming problems are happening all the time. I see there is a go back to Windows 7 option and I may take it for now, and do a clean install at a later date.

I installed windows 7 as a dual boot with windows 10 (as I was having some compatibility problems with some programs) but now the boot UI has gone back to the old black text based UI.
I was just wondering is there a way to get the modern blue boot UI back?

My father hit yes to upgrad his HP Probook 6407b from Windows 7 to Win 10. He did not realize what he was saying yes to.He brought it to me before it finsihed. I got into win 10, but then had issues with HP security software at boot. It would hang at boot, say something about a finger print reader, and then allow me to log in. So I decided to revert back to win 7. that failed. Goes to try a startup repair and it does not work. It looks like win 7 trying to do it and not 10.
Is there any way to recover either win 7 or 10?I tried a win 10 usb drive, but it says the upgrade was previously started in windows, turn off machine and restart, but that fails.

So updated this morning, got the black screen that many others are getting with the mouse. (Alienware x51) I was reading these forums on my phone while tinkering with the computer. About 10 restarts into it, my computer reverted back to 8.1 ... Reading other forums and solutions, I'm currently updating every graphics driver that I can, and crossing my fingers. I figured I would start THIS thread so that people can see if that works. I'm NOT very computer savvy, couldn't figure out how to get to where I could turn off the intel card. So I'm updating everything now, before I reinstall windows 10.

My Windows 7 was updating to Windows 10. When it appeared to almost be done configuring a message appeared stating the Windows 10 could not be installed and it was restoring the previous version of Windows.
Well that did not work. The pc will not boot up now. Instead I get: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>system32hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file"
I hope I can add the file using the win7 dvd. I know I was getting low on hard drive space, but had cleared enough to have 4 gig or so free. It was either not mentioned anywhere or I missed how much hd space would be needed. Of course I am assuming that the install bombed due to this?

I have been running Windows 10 Pro on my HP desktop for overa week with no problems. Over theweekend Windows attempted installing an upgrade; not sure when, but during theupgrade process I received a Critical Process Died BSOD with no error code. All system restarts result in the same error, and I havebeen unable to use Repair, Recovery Mode, or Safe mode to isolate theproblem.
The only usable option seems tobe to do a System Restore where I have the choice of losing all installed apps,or losing both all installed apps and files. Is there any way to roll back to the Windows 8.1 that isstill located in the Windows.old folder from the command prompt?

So I made the mistake of upgrading my Dell Venue 8 Pro to Windows 10... It's very slow and buggy.
I tried using the built in "Revert back to Windows 8.1" option in the Settings "app", but it says that files have been deleted and it can no longer perform the uninstallation.
I also tried going into the tablet's built in Backup and Recovery from Dell, but that doesn't allow me to reinstall Windows 8. It's merely a diagnostic.

Recently upgraded to w10 from w8.1 via the upgrade option, then proceeded to make a USB boot with w10 and performed a clean install.
However, something is fishy with my system and w10 so for now i want to revert back to w8.1 via a clean install of w8.1
When i installed w10 however i noticed i have an abundance of partitions, and preferably i would only like to have my SSD and HDD as optional storage spaces. I do of course not want to delete any necessary recovery or system partitions, but to me it seems like i currently have too many.
Which of the partitions in the picture below can i delete? Is it safe to delete all the recovery partitions when clean installing w8.1 from usb? meaning that will the installation create the necessary partitions required by windows?
See picture for info(gjenoppretting = recovery)
