Installation :: Lost Pinned Websites From Windows 8 Start Screen?
Aug 7, 2015
When I upgraded to 10 all the pinned websites I had on my Win 8 startscreen disappeared. Can I get them back? I also want to upgrade a Win 7 machine. Will my destop apps, shortcuts, and websites reappear in 10?
My Start Screen very weird recently. I can't drag icon app to Start, I can't drag to organize app on Start, when I right click on app, only "More" appears, other options just gone,
I'm running the RTM on a netbook and have noticed that, unlike in Windows 7/8/8.1, I'm no longer able to hit Start and type in an executable. I have a bunch of portable apps that I typically type in and pull up. Now, the Start menu search pulls up ever OTHER file except the executable. It's very annoying and don't see why this shouldn't work.
What's worse, is if I pin the app to the start menu, it doesn't search it then. Say, I pin "puttyportable.exe" as a shortcut (and rename it to just PuTTY) to the start menu. Typing in "putty" gives me nothing - just the same associated files that were in the puttyportable folder (ini files, etc).
I installed Windows 10 very recently and I like it, but I have a VERY BIG show-stopper: when I try to do search in the start menu, it's terrible; it cannot even find an application that I have manually pinned to start. I didn't have any such problem with Windows 8.1. I have also installed some other desktop applications, for example GitHub for Windows, but when I start to to type "Git...", it only finds "GitHub" and it cannot find "Git Shell" and I have to go to all programs, find "G", then expand the folder for this application and run that application.
New start menu yet. There are some parts copied over from xp / win7 and other parts not. What I used most out of the start menu before was from the pinned (old style pinned at top) or recent programs that have the little arrow with the recent docs that had been opened by that program.
It's such a brilliant time saving way to re-open files that have been worked on.
My windows 10 was an upgrade from windows7 professional. It's kept some of these under the most used, like word, acrobat, etc. but not others I used often, like excel or epson scanner. And since upgrading to windows 10, I have used these two more than any other program (or "app"). They don't move into the "most used" - why not?
And how can I pin apps into the start so that it has the recent docs option arrow. Pinning it only adds to the tile section and no option to see recent docs opened.
Frustratingly, word and acrobat still have the recent docs in the most used section. So the function is there, just no way to make windows 10 do what the last 20 years of windows done with ease.
I beta tested Windows 10 several months back, previous to the version I tested, if you removed all the pined tiles from the start menu, it would look more like the conventional start menu. However in the few version I tested, even if you unpinned all the tiles, the start menu was still 1/2 the screen, the tile area was just blank..
I have a free upgrade from Windows 7, but If they didn't go back to allowing you to remove tiles from the start menu and get more of a traditional start menu, I'm sticking with Windows 7..
Also, if I did upgrade to Windows 10, can you go back to windows 7, either by Uninstalling the upgrade and/or be reinstalling Windows 7? or does it convert and remove your Windows 7 license key there by deleting your ability to go back to Windows 7?
I have a few portable apps, which I have pinned to start.
Now I need to show these apps to show when I type their names in search, but it just doesn't show any of these apps. Search for properly installed apps works flawlessly same as for system settings.
How can I pin portable apps to be able to be shown up in search results? Or am I doing anything wrong?
Windows 10 out of the Edge Browser allows almost anything to be pinned to Start Menu which is great but many of the names are too long, so once again, can names of apps be changed that are pinned to start menu?
He has just upgraded his windows 7 home premium to windows 10 by using the dvd iso that he downloaded all went well.
Now his question is when the pc starts up and the welcome screen comes up he has chosen a picture but underneath the circular picture it still says welcome to Windows 7,He thinks that should be Windows ten or something else not Windows 7.
I upgraded from windows 8 to 10 now my window applications will not start. It only has a blank screen. I can only use the task master but can not uninstall especially the security features. I am very unhappy with this product and I do not want it.
I have installed win10 on to my Brothers PC and kept getting the message `Inaccessible Boot Device` and was caught in a loop. I then downloaded the iso file on to a disc and re-installed successfully from there. However when we switch on the PC I get a screen which shows two boxes, One reads Win10 and the other Windows. When I click on Win10 the OS loads. How do I remove the other box?. I have installed Win10 on two other PC`s and have not seen this screen before.
After closing down computer the other day, when trying to switch back on Windows start screen comes on with 4 squares and rotating dots, but the screen then just goes black or white with no mouse pointer.
I have tried F8 which goes into recovery mode and I have tried all repair modes, but none of them work.
it must surely be something to do with Windows as I can go into recovery mode.
I have a Lenovo flex 2 laptop that is brand new and used to run windows 8.1 until earlier today.
I opted for the recommended win 10 upgrade, and things went smoothly until it was time to reboot.
The laptop begins to boot, I get to see the Lenovo start screen for a few seconds, and then it turns off before starting over again.
This loop has been going on for 8 hours, as of right now.
All attempts to access the boot menu via the F2, F8, F11, and F12 keys have failed, and the novo key has had no effect.
I am desperate at this point- the laptop is brand new. And now it is next to useless. No actual customer support is available in the country I live in. I just want a way to go back to win8.1.
I have 2 seperated (physically) SSD drives in my laptop.Previously I had windows 8.1 on one drive, and I installed windows 7 and upgraded it to windows 10 on the other SSD drive.I enjoyed windows 10, so I formatted the drive with the windows 8.1, but now suddenly my laptop says he can't find system drive, and I can't load the windows 10, althogh it was installed with no connection to the windows 8.1 and on another drive.
I am running Windows 10 1511 10836, having upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 back in August 2015. This morning when I turned on my Lenovo B575 laptop, after the first Windows screen with animated circling dots at the bottom, when it refreshed the screen and went to the 2nd Windows screen, I noticed that the animation with the circling dots was slow. After several minutes, the computer was still on this screen. After 15 minutes and no change, I restarted the computer.
Upon 2nd startup I got the same results. On 3rd startup I got the Please Wait screen and then eventually got to the Startup and Repair screen. After diagnosing found nothing, I then went to the System Restore page and found that a Windows Update had installed yesterday afternoon. I restored to the Restore Point created yesterday, and restarted.
(Last Thursday I had to force the upgrade to the 1511 10836 update by downloading the 3.5Gb file because Windows Update kept failing. I have had no problems since then.)
No change. I can get to Safe Mode after 2 failed attempts, but without knowing what to check or look for, this does me little good. Of course can I reset/reinstall Windows 10 but would rather not if I don't have to.
While viewing a thread here, the forum went from perfect visual clarity to a washed out appearance. The most obvious example is on any given topic page where the listed threads I have viewed are a lighter shade of blue and unread ones are bold blue. Now the bold is 2-3 shades lighter and the lighter blue ones are just easily discernible but washed out looking.
When I press/click on Start, and then type 'Power' for instance to get PowerShell, I want to right click and Run as administrator. Somehow that is gone. I can only Pin to Start. Did updates, reboots, etc. I cannot even click and drag icons from the Start menu - just has a red X. I had to make a shortcut on the desktop to run PowerShell as an admin. It works on another Windows 10 machine no issues.
On Start menu, Photo Gallery (most used) came up and all photo albums, documents were in that folder. Now it's gone for some reason. How do I get the albums corralled into Photo Gallery again?
I do not know what happened, but I lost some file associations, such as opening .torrent files and magnetic links with utorrent and text files (.ini, .txt etc.) with Notepad++. Additionally, Start Menu and tray options, such as volume slider and wi-fi menu are not opening anymore. Settings starts, though. I already tried to apply that CSSEmerg67758.diagcab fix, but it didn't work. I can't perform a system restore as well, I get this error: ....
