Trying to install Windows 10 on Thinkpad T60 2004-4AU, don't have a hard drive in it so I am using a 64GB SanDisk Glide flash drive and it does not see it, it says "We couldn't find any drives. To get a storage driver, click Load driver."
View 6 RepliesWhenever I try to install a 64 bit Windows 10 copy from a flash drive, I get stuck on the 4 blue squares, with no white dots spinning. Then after about 10 seconds the PC restarts. I have tried the official way with the media creation tool, I have tried just downloading the ISO and using a third party bootable USB maker, I have tried ISO's from pirate sites (yes, I know, not the best solution) but none of those worked. Every time I tried a different method I always fully formatted the USB drive. Oddly enough the 32 bit version worked once or twice but even that doesn't work anymore. My PC specs are quite good so I really don't know what's the issue. Btw im running a 120 GB AData SSD and a 1 TB Seagate hard drive.
View 5 Repliesyesterday I downloaded the 10041 ISO from the Windows 10 Technical Preview ISO March Update - Microsoft Windows.I installed by mounting the ISO into a VirtualBox and enjoyed having a look around. In fact I like it so much at my initial impression I decided to move into a dual boot system.
I have a 250gb SSD as my C: drive so I partitioned it and created a D: of 80GB for the Windows 10 preview.I then tried creating 2 different USB installers... one Rufus MBR for legacy BIOS... and the second using the microsoft USB/DVD installer tool. I also burnt a DVD. In all cases I used the very same ISO that I mounted sucessfully inside the VirtualBox yesterday.Each one of the 3 installers I created seemingly hangs at the initial black splash screen with the 4 blue windows in the centre. It goes no further and believe me I waited 20 minutes on one of them.
BTW.... I tried opening the ISO in WINISO and then mounting to BD ROM drive. Then selected the setup.exe and away it goes just like setting up on the VBox ... but then it get to a screen which suggests I need to install a different language pack to the one already installed, so I immediately realised this route is trying to upgrade my Win 7 which I don't want... so I aborted.
I have been trying to create a USB that has Windows 7 to Windows 10 for convenience if I ever need to install any of them again. From what I have googled myself there is ways of doing it up from XP to Windows 8.1. How to go about this??
View 1 RepliesI've been using Win10 since the general release. This was an update install on a Win7 laptop.Apart from a few issues (waking from sleep on scheduled tasks, lack of control on updates) I have a problem with external devices.
If I use several USB flash drives/harddrive I'm able to eject one or two but then I can't eject any others. When this happens I don't get the menu option to eject/safely remove the device through "explorer" and the drive doesn't appear in the "safely remove" icon on the task bar. I can still access the drive without issue just don't have any way to eject except to shutdown the laptop. If I reboot the laptop but leave the device attached the eject option reappears.
The laptop is fully patched and I can't work out what is happening and google hasn't revealed any similar problems except the normal "device is in use" message.
Is there any software that can block USB storage on PC but not the mouse and WiFi adapter connected?
Also, is there a way that I can get notified in any ways when someone connects a pen drive or phone to the PC?

I upgraded from W8.1 to W10. After the upgrade my mirrored volume was 'gone' (created with disk management). Fortunately I was able to restore the data on one of the disks.
I cannot manage to recreate a mirror on Windows 10. I tried using disk management as well as Storage Spaces but I get errors when the formatting begins.
Even with new disks, all the same it does not seem to work. I can not figure out why...
I get: Cannot remove Storage Space (huh.. remove?? I am creating one!!).... Parameter is wrong: 0x00000057.
Could there be some history of the previous mirrored drive which is preventing me from creating a new one or should I just do a clean Windows 10 installation?
I am running Windows 10 Pro x64 that I installed as a full version (not from the free update, I purchased the full edition from Microsoft).Whenever I get a new OS I like to do a clean install so I used the Microsoft Media Creation Tool which I downloaded from this page. I used the Media Creation Tool to install the OS (wiped and created new partitions, installed the OS, etc.).
Now with this nightmare update they just released (Version 1511) I am having SO many issues. I would like to do another fresh install of this new version.If I use the Media Creation Tool again to create an USB installer will it contain this latest version (i.e. I won't have to go through the whole update process again)? Or does the Media Creation Tool only create a USB installer that contains the "base" operating system which will required updates all over again?If not, how can i create an installer for Version 1511 so that I can avoid the pain of updating?
I want to add extra storage to my Surface Pro 3. I have 128gb on my HDD and would like to add at least another 64gb.
Would I be better with an SD card or Flash Drive?
What that page is called, but when I want to change save locations, none of my drives show up. It worked before but now it just doesn't want to display anything sadly. Here are a few pictures of what I am talking about.

I've about 4 SATA HDD's that I've removed from computers that I've junked -- all SATA about 12 TB.
Is it possible to build an enclosure and create a NAS drive -- I can easily make external USB drives but I think a NAS storage system would be better. What I need to do --should in theory be easy just need some sort of network card and an OS.
Windows 10 really likes to start up my storage drives. I have them set to sleep after one minute in the balanced power profile but not long after they spin down something else causes them to start up again.
They will eventually turn off but spin up again at a later time for no reason. I see that there is no data being written to them in task manager.
My present Windows 7 computer has the C: Drive (OS) and two additional storage drives, D & E. When getting reading to do a clean install of Windows 10, is it necessary to electrically remove the storage drives in case of any conflicts, if any, during the installation of Windows 10 or can they remain intact during the clean installation of Windows 10?
View 8 RepliesI had 3x 3TB drives in a parity pool. It started to fill up so i added a fourth 3TB drive and months later one of the original 3 began to fail on me. Performance was slow, then slower, then it showed disconnected.
I retired the drive and added a replacement, literally the same model 3TB drive. I cannot however, get it to remove the failed physical disk and repair the pool. I even tried adding another 2TB drive i had available in case it needed the extra space (didn't make sense but i was reaching).
I get the "drive could not be removed because not all data could be reallocated. add an additional drive to this pool and reattempt this operation."
I have searched a lot and don't really seem to be getting anywhere. The only way i was able to retire the drive was through powershell. I'm assuming it's a GUI issue and perhaps i'm not approaching it correctly via powershell. Attempting to repair virtual disk didn't work.
I really don't want to lose this data. I wasn't able to backup much before the drive failed completely.
I have an HP Laptop that has an audio driver with a hardware ID of
HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76E5&SUBSYS_00000100
However, the only driver available is for windows 8.1 and this driver installer is made for my specific laptop model. The thing is, the hardware ID listed above is NOT included in the inf file of the installer. Well, to be specific, the subsys ID. How is this possible?

i have an hp 8440p and i want to install windows 10 on it. When it boots the installer it shows the windows boot logo and after some seconds it restarts. i use windows 10 pro insider preview build 10130

When attempting to install a program or do Windows 10 updates, the installer stops and the progress bar shows no progression of installation. trusted installer will not let me delete internet explorer..I want to delete it because it apparently has conduit infecting it winpatrol and Malwarebytes find it and take it out but it is still there apparently reinstalling itself
