View 9 RepliesIn Windows 7, I knew how to turn off the annoying (to me) feature that windows were automatically maximized when moved to the edge of the screen. This option no longer seems to be present in the 'ease of access' settings.

View 6 RepliesI understand that MS have decided to save resources for updates and that Windows 10 will get updates from any PC that has installed it already, something about "Windows Update Delivery Optimization" (WUDO). I see this as hackers' heaven! A hacker can take an update, alter it with his malware virus and Microsoft will distribute and install it on other PCs for him/her.How can I be sure that the update is clean and downloaded direct from Microsoft?
View 1 RepliesAssuming it's possible, need information on preventing Windows 10 from forcing GPU driver updates on me?
I created a thread three days ago about a faulty AMD GPU driver update, version 15.200.1062.1004 and that my only [current] resolution for that is to roll back the driver to version 15.200.1062.1002.
Evidently, Windows 10 doesn't accept using an older driver and periodically, it will take control of my system with a background task and force this driver update on me.
I have an issue whereby when I return home from work in the evening, I find my PC running after being turned on by Windows Update during the day. I find this intrusion unacceptable and I probably wouldn't mind so much if it turned it back off again! What if I was away for a vacation?
The other associated issue is that it installs an unwanted graphics driver upgrade, unfortunately this driver causes numerous dxgmm2.sys BSOD's. My only resolution for which is to roll back to an older 347.88 driver which runs like clockwork on SWTOR. Each night I roll back the driver to play uninterrupted and next day it is overwritten!
Unfortunately being Windows Home edition, my control of these updates is limited to non existent!
So on RTM build, you used to have these options:
But now, in TH2, you only have this:
Is it going to be like this every single update? If so, I'm done with Windows 10.
i am scared enough about the automatic updates that i turn off the update service
View 9 RepliesI think the "updates freezing" issue has come up in another thread but I can't find it momentarily.
The screen shots show what I've been looking at for two days now. Obviously something is amiss with Automatic Update but I dunno what, or what to do about it.
Previously on W7 & W8 the updates categorized into 2 column (Important & Optional) where we can select the updates individually and download/install. This way I can get some optional drivers for memory card, printers & etc.
I couldn't find this option in W10. I choose to ignore it but my antivirus keep notifying me that optional downloads are available. I did click the "Run System Updates" but it navigates to System > Update & Security > Message and shows "System is up to date".
Sometimes it only updates the critical updates. The rest (Recommended & Optional) ignored/not notified on windows updates.
I installed my Windows 10 and everything was going smoothly. It has installed 2 updates from the day I've installed it and everything was ok. Recently updates KB3081448 and KB3081449 came out but it doesn't want to download them. Instead it gives me error 0x800703f1. My drivers are up to date and my PC is clean from viruses. I also tried installing them manually. It failed after step 2 of the installation...
View 9 RepliesThis is my main operating system:
I am trying to set the frequency detection of Windows update. So, I go to this menu in the Group Policy Editor:
As you can see though, that other setting must be enabled. So, I navigate to its menu and try to set it. I do not know what should I put in those boxes though...
- How can I set the Automatic Updates detection frequency to four hours?
I have Windows 10 Home Edition, like millions of others. Like millions of others, I prefer to hibernate my computer rather than shut it down outright most nights. And like millions of others, I am getting awakened IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT because Windows 10 is trying to notify me about updates! Repeatedly.
When I want information about updates, I'll ask. I've turned off the Update Service on the Services tab of the Task Manager. After some hours or some days, it turns itself back on. A cat-and-mouse game with Microsoft. I have stopped the automatic updates themselves but I can't stop the stop the aggressive notifications. Should I be happy? At least the computer is no longer shutting down without warning IN THE MIDDLE OF A PROJECT THAT I'M WORKING ON to update. But it stills turns on at various hours of the night, cooking with its lid closed, to provide me unbidden notifications of updates.
I need to stop this NOW, otherwise Microsoft can shove Windows 10 where the sun don't shine. I own this computer, not Microsoft. Can it be done? Or do I go back to Linux?
I have my settings on to receive windows updates automatically. In the past three weeks I keep seeing that in the history all updates have failed to either download or install.
View 2 RepliesWindows Update has been stuck at 0% every time I've tried in the last couple of days (see screenshot). These are the two updates available:
Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3103688).
Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3105213).

View 9 RepliesI have a Surface Pro that will not download updates from Microsoft. When I check for updates they are found and show what they are but they will not download. The progress bar shows 0% and does not move.I have tried the download troubleshooter and it shows that it could not identify the problem.I use Edge for browser if that makes any difference. One of the downloads is a hardware download dated 7/28/2015..I checked my history and I have not installed any updated since 12/13/2015.
View 3 RepliesI've been having trouble with Windows Update recently:
* Three updates were stuck on downloading at 0%
* Rebooting the laptop resulted in it getting stuck at the "Getting things ready..." screen
The fix was actually pretty simple:
1. Reboot your computer
2. Open Explorer and navigate to C:WindowsSoftware Distribution
3. Open an elevated command prompt (Admin)
4. Run these two commands:
-net stop wuauserv
-net stop bits
5. Select all files in abovementioned folder and delete them
6. Make sure to empty the trash afterwards
7. Reboot and run Windows Update again
That way I was able to fix my Windows Update process that has been stuck for more than a week now. It immediately found many more updates to install, downloaded them and installed them just fine.
I have Windows 8.1 and I can not install the updates to Windows 8.1 in Windows Update because it always starts downloading Windows 10. How to block downloading Windows 10 and only download updates to Windows 8.1?
View 5 RepliesWhen i'm going to "Downloads" of the Store of Windows 10. All Updates are in progress. But nothing will be downloaded or anything else.
Also my Mail app won't even start anymore. It stucks on the blue screen bootup and never go further.
This is on my Surface Pro 3.
My store is playing up on the latest release. I have four pending updates, none of which will download, one of them is store itself, another is word mobile which is now not working and wont uninstall either. Any time I try to pause or cancel any of the downloads the app simply freezes and I have to close it and the same cycle repeats.
View 4 RepliesShortly after the "Get Windows 10" icon appeared in the system tray of my Win 8.1 installation, I made the mistake of clicking on the "Get Windows 10" icon and "reserved" my copy of Windows 10. After some research, I elected to cancel my reservation for Windows 10 and did so by again clicking the "Get Windows 10" icon and going through the process to "cancel" my reservation. (I subsequently read Brink's fine post on "Get Windows 10 Icon -Remove from Taskbar in Windows 7 and 8.1" and did option four to uninstall the KB3035583 update). Now when I go to windows update and "search for updates", the search result is "install windows 10" though it does allow me to view "all available updates" which includes numerous "important" security updates as well as a few "optional" updates, one of which is Windows 10. I select the "important" updates, deselect the optional updates (including windows 10), and click install then get a dialog that "Windows 10 setup files are being downloaded" and an option to "cancel" (which I do). How do I stop Windows Update from downloading Windows 10 setup files and just download the "important updates" to secure my present installation of Win 8.1?
View 9 RepliesHow do I stop automatic W10 updates? Every time I have an update downloaded thing fall apart. Either Outlook stops working (Outlook not available try again later) or my Favorites bar disappears and has to be redefined, or like now, my Adobe is all sc.... up and I cannot delete adobe files or access my adobe files when I am travelling and off line. This Windows 10 is the worst mess I have ever seen in 61 years of IT/IS/Data Processing. My next PC will definitely be a MAC.
