Installation :: Product Key Not Accepted (Duplication)
Dec 22, 2015
I have just restored a saved version of a VM Windows 10 upgraded from Windows 7. It had a digital entitlement but the restored machine required activation. I chose what I thought was the Product Key of the Win 7 machine prior to the upgrade but it was rejected. I now realise that I may have used the wrong key but it raises a question.
How can you tell what Product Key you have used to activate an installation of Win10 which shows as activated?

What kind of file types are accepted in Windows 10 for mobile for installation? Can it install android APK files or just the appx files? And should the apps be downloaded only from store? Or they can be downloaded or taken from other devices?

Im not trying to do anything illegal or anything but i want to create a skipable installation iso. Ive been able to successfully do this with windows 8/8.1. The reason for me to do this is I work at a computer repair shop and we do a lot of installs. To keep up a fast pace i find it easier to skip the product key initially and activate it later. I cant seem to find the ei.efg file to edit. Perhaps they changed the format of the install.

According to my computer, Windows7 is activated and is a genuine product. But when I attempt to download W10, it does not recognize the 25 digit Product Key. I don't know what to do.

I have just bought two new SanDisk 32 GB USBs and when I insert each of them in my Vaio laptop, it show as duplicated - showing "This PC - removable disk (E) and the other just removable disk (E). Even the contents I have put on one have been duplicated. if I can just continue by saving to one of these drives, or am I building up future problems for myself by leaving it as it is? (03/11/15)

I have a new computer with windows 10, at the first boot the computer did some things to prepare itself for use, but then I was asked to give my credenitals to account, I used my windows account, but there was some error and I had to reboot. Since then this is what happens: when I boot up there is (probably, cause English is not my native language)
Then I choose my language and click next, after that it asks for a product key, after I confirm that (or skip) and use express settings it goes into "just a moment" than the computer reboot and I am at the begining again.

I am trying to upgrade GENUINE Windows 8.1 PRO x64 to Windows 10 Pro x64 from the ISO I made from the Microsoft RTM files. I am upgrading from within the 8.1 OS and choosing the option to keep "nothing" of my settings and personal files.
I have two problems.
The first is that the installation asks for a product key. On the other hand, when I upgraded my Windows 7 machine to 10 from within the OS it didn't ask for a product key. Why do I need to provide the product key to upgrade my 8.1 system, but not my 7 system?
Second problem is that I can not upgrade from 8.1 PRO to Win10 PRO. When I put in the general product key for the Win10 HOME edition the install proceeds, but it does not take the other (different) product key corresponding to the Win10 PRO version, even though it should. Why can't I go 8.1 PRO -> 10 PRO?

I have a newly installed Windows 7 Professional x64 (not single language) with SP1 that is fully updated, genuine and activated. If I slip the Win10 CD used to upgrade several Win 7 Home Premium PCs in and ask it to upgrade me it requires a product key to continue. There is no option to skip this. The Win7 product key fails, the Insider key fails, the Next button is greyed out. The same issue irrespective of whether I take recent updates or not. I am logged on to a local admin account.
I clicked the flag in the system tray to register for Win 10 but that tells me my report is not ready yet. This after 8 hours of continuous connection to the internet. SFC shows no corruptions.

Will windows 10 update provide a product key for clean install? If so how/where?
If not when performing a clean install, will skipping the product key prompt, then activating once desktop appears automatically activate and inject a product key?Lastly rather than extract the esd file, where to get a genuine Microsoft iso's on release date?

MacBook late 2009 running parallels. Originally upgraded when Win 8 was installed. Win 10 upgrade loaded Home. Removed Win 10, upgraded to Win 8.1. Now when I try to reload Win 10, it will not install Pro, only Home.
When I go to change product key under activation, it will not let me change serial number. (Old Win 8.0 Serial Number)
Clarification: Cannot even select change product key. I only get a "ding".

Last night, Dec 3, 2015, windows automatically updated and this morning my computer gave me a new windows startup screen. All my stuff was there, it seems a new version of windows was installed.
Windows 10 home, 64 bit.
I attempted to check my email the usual way, by the Comcast web site, at xfinity.com. I received error messages that I needed to enable cookies. I checked my settings and cookies were still set where I left them, blocking third party cookies only.
I re-tried several times, getting the same error messages, so I enabled all cookies. I still get the same error message, I cannot access my email because cookies are not enabled.

Two weeks ago accepted prompt to reserve upgrade from Win7 home edition. It said my PC qualified. Yesterday, accepted prompt to begin upgrade. About 4 hours later after selecting Yes/No settings, and being told about the 4 included apps, the status worked up from 1% and must have reached 100%. Didn't turn off screen or power. Now I have just a cursor on screen. Is it safe to power off or was it a complete failure?

I installed Windows 10 on my laptop 2-3 weeks ago at which time I was prompted to create a PIN for easier log-in. I've been using the PIN every day since. All I've had to do is type the 4 digits (no enter) and I get signed in.
Then last night when I tried to sign in, nothing. I enter the 4 digits, and after the 4th digit, the cursor jumps to the front of the PIN characters and doesn't sign me in. I tried Enter which does nothing.
I also tried the alternate "Log on using a password", and it does not accept my password either, which I did not change.
I called Microsoft support and they told me I need to "refresh my computer", meaning reinstall Windows, which is absolutely ridiculous, as it boots up fine and has been working fine. The OS locked me out of it!

Instead of upgrading directly from the media creation tool, I decided to make ISO so that i can upgrade my friends PC's too as I did while I upgraded from 8.1 to 10, But this time it dint go well.Though I was successful in creating the ISO, when i mounted ISO and ran the setup, its asking for me the product key, I entered my current windows 10(Genuine) product key but it dint work, i also tried my old windows 8.1 key that too dint work. But last time whenI was upgrading too windows 10 using the same method it dint ask for the key. And my laptop is dell inspiron 15r with genuine windows.

My PC was running 8.1 French version converted to English version (Reseller screwed up).In practice a lot of the stuff was displayed sometimes in Eng sometimes in French. I have the 8.1 French CD.So instead of doing the upgrade which I thought would result in another mishmash of languages, I did a clean install of 10 Home Eng via USB key downloaded install media.Apart from a few video probs (BSOD) blinking cursor, all went well.I cannot use 8.1 product key to activate. Looks like I may have to buy new product key for W10.

I recently upgraded to windows 10, and decided to do a clean install. So I made a image of my system (when it was windows 8.1), wiped my Hard drive (which still had the original windows 8 install,), and stuck a ios file on a usb stick. However during the install to my SSD (Which is different from my hardrive) the computer asked for a product code, something I do not have, and did not think I needed (my understanding was that windows 10 registered your hardware). If I skip it, it goes though the prossess of installing, but then restarts after finishing moving the files. I dont want to have to attempt to go though the effort of putting windows 8 back on the laptop, moving it over to the ssd, upgrading to windows 10, getting a product key that may or may not work, and trying it again.

How I can retrieve my windows product key from my BIOS? This for a 2 month old MSI Dominator GT72 PRO laptop which was purchased new with Windows 8.1 preloaded; no disc or product key label was provided. We recently did the free upgrade to Windows 10 and through a series of issues ended up letting the OS do a reset which did not work out.
Microsoft provided us a link to download Windows 10 for a clean install, which we did and is now on the laptop, however, it requires the original 8.1 product key to complete the installation. Microsoft tells me that the original product key should be retrievable from the BIOS since it was not provided with the laptop. What is the procedure to locate the key from the BIOS?

Windows 10 x64
As I have multiple retail license keys, I am unsure which one is in use right now.
There are 3rd party key finders that may show the key in use, but I prefer to obtain the key using Windows own tools, if possible. For instance using a CMD.(Am uncertain about these 'key finders': can they be trusted?)

apparently the key on the label is the OEM key the manufacturer is obliged to give with an OEM product.
the ' embedded' key found with magicaljellybean is the volume licensing key that the manufacturer uses to bulk activate multiple PC's not strictly a Windows 10 issue.
I did a product key search using jellybean on a Windows 7 PC I am about to upgrade to Windows 10. however the product key I obtained vqb3x .....etc is different from the product key on the sticker on the side of the PC.. .MMVJM....etc
why it is different ?
