Feb 10, 2016I am currently an Windows 7 Professional user, and I was seriously considering to jump to Windows 10.
After upgrading, I was thinking in doing a factory reset, in order to try to mimic a clean install of the system. When exploring the options on Internet, I discovered an option to clean de drives completely.
Currently I have 2 drives, my C unit where the OS and most of my software is, and a D drive, in which I have my music, documents, videos and other files not relevant for the system itself.
If I select the options to clean the drives, will it delete both drives or just the C drive?

I was wondering it was safe to add a folder on there that would contain backups of my Favorites folder, any drivers I need for my hardware as well as other files? Feb 10, 2016I've been suffering from the whole "start menu isn't working, here have this lovely critical error" issue for quite some time now. I've brushed it off as a nuisance and tried to ignore it, but it's really just starting to limit the functionality of my PC so I'm trying to get it resolved.
Most recently, I tried to reset my computer through Settings (keeping all of my files). It starts the process, reboots my PC to a screen that asks me to select the layout of my keyboard... but I've lost all functionality of my mouse and keyboard in the process. I can't select anything to get beyond the screen. I've tried another mouse with no success.

I would like to migrate Windows to an 80GB SSD but I can't find anyway to do this without cloning the entire drive, which I can't do because there is too much content on the HDD. Is there any way to migrate Windows to a different drive whilst keeping all user files and installed applications on the old drive so I can have two drives in my system, the SSD for boot and the HDD for storage and applications.

I have updated to win10 from 8 which carried over all my previously installed programs, but was considering a clean install via usb and reinstalling all the programs as i have had a few errors with programs starting and a few random bsod BUT in the past wk no real issues so i assume updated took care of it
So i kind of want to do a full format and recreate the partitions and then install, will i receive any benefit from this
Reset Windows And Clicked Keep Files But All Files Gone
Mar 1, 2016All my files are gone, but when I go into Windows Explorer the file system says that this PC has 856 GB out of 1.81 TB full, but I have nothing there. When I click on it all my games etc are not there, and I don't know how to get them back. When I reset Windows I clicked "keep my files" so where are my files? My internet is really slow and would take way to long to re-download and i wont have enough space because all my files are there i cant find them anywhere.

The recent Windows 10 update (Jan 29) again removed all my earlier restore points. This time the protection setting of my C: disk was still on, but the settings of the disk space usage was set so low by the update that there was space only for one restore point (the critical update).
Delete Mail From Outlook On Phone Also Removes It From Gmail Account
Feb 17, 2016Not sure if I've set something up wrong, but when I delete mail from outlook on my WM10 phone, it removes it from my gmail account as well. but when I delete mail from mail app on my PC it only removes the copy on my PC.
Also when I delete gmail mail through web, the mail is deleted from my phone, but not my PC app.
After Reset Windows Needs To Repair Drive?
Oct 1, 2015My friend's 2 day old Toshiba laptop started giving System Thread Exception Not Handled error, and went into a rebooting loop. I researched this on the web, but none of the usual fixes for this issue would work.
I decided to do a Reset, told it not to save any files.
It did the reset, counting up from 1% to 100% over the course of about 30 minutes, then went to a screen that said "scanning and repairing errors". That took about 15 minutes.
After the scanning and repairing, it went to a 3rd screen that only said "Installing Windows Your PC will restart several times". With a large percent counter in the middle that sat at 1% for about 10 minutes, then went to 2% and is sitting there right now, for about 5 minutes. Now it has moved up to 6%, been at that for about 5 minutes now. Below that in small letters it says "installing features and drivers" This seems odd because I thought it was doing that in the first step.
When I've reset computers in the past (those were Win 8) all I remember it doing was the first of these 3 steps, and then it rebooted and was done. Is this behavior normal in Win 10 or is there a problem here that we should consider returning this computer?
Option To (Reset And Keep Files) Repair Registry?
Aug 29, 2015My question is, does the Windows 10 option to "reset and keep files" repair everything, including any broken registry things that I might have screwed up? I'm not that experienced with this, so could be a silly question.
Some background info: my computer was basically functioning normally, except for some kind of minor issues (slow downs, occasional program crashes, etc) and warnings that kept popping up in my event viewer yet I didn't really "see" the effects of most of them in everyday computer use (I'm an amateur though). This was not virus or malware related, I don't think. (I ran numerous virus scans and also used virus/malware removal, even though it didn't appear I had any, plus I have Avast and MBAM always on my computer.)
So I'm wondering if I probably screwed up the registry because I stupidly used CCleaner's registry clean-up a couple times, and have since learned I should never touch that.
I ran the Dell diagnostics to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue, by the way, and that all passed.
I had Windows 7 and did the upgrade to Windows 10. I just decided to do Windows 10's option to "reset and keep files" to do a clean install to see if that fixes these things. So I'm wondering if the registry is repaired with that kind of reset? And if it never was the registry that was the problem, will the other potential causes be repaired as well? Just want to make sure I made the right choice to reset.

Apr 14, 2016I was moving video files (AVI) from an external backup drive (WD Element) to another external backup drive (Seagate expansion) after having moved another video file from my laptop (Acer) to that Seagate external drive. The night before I had moved some video files from the WD to the Seagate with no problem but using a different laptop (Sony). These video files are all rather large and I can tell that the space is still being allocated on the Seagate because while the folder cannot be seen the space that was there is still being used by the Seagate because I am missing over 100GB which would be about the size of that now missing folder.
What happened was there was a message that the Seagate drive could not be recognized while the files were in the process of being moved to that drive from the WD. This is after I had already moved a video file of about 26GB with no problem into that now missing folder. When I saw the message I attempted several times to move files to that Seagate drive but I could not so I unplugged the Seagate drive from that laptop (Acer) then reinserted it into the usb port. I got a repair message that said it needed to be repaired because some files were corrupted and that no data would be lost but the drive would be unavailable during the repairs so I checked ok. It took only about 30 seconds and it said the repairs were completed and the drive was available but I noticed that the folder that I was moving the video files to was not gone.
As I stated there are more than 100GB of files in that folder some are video and others are audio recordings that were created by using the myrecording (audio and video) features of the Acer laptop and they are very important so I need to figure out if they can be retrieved from that Seagate drive. I have not copied anything else onto that Seagate drive but I have plugged it into the Acer computer to ensure it is being recognized. Both the external drives WD and Seagate are plug and play that are powered from the usb -- they have no power adapters.

Feb 20, 2016So i have 2 hard drives, one new and one beginning to die on me. I have windows on the dying hard drive, and do not have the original disks or product key. I tried using DriveImage XML to copy everything onto the new drive, but for some reason when it boots it says "Hard disk failure" when i have the just the new hard drive in there (i am 100% sure it is plugged in properly). I really dont have the money to buy a new windows disk, and so i was wondering if it would work if i were to factory reset my computer and have windows 10 reinstall on my new hard drive, or is there an easier way?

Dec 8, 2015So I just turned my computer on and noticed that my desktop had been reset to the default wallpaper and all of my folders had been deleted. I also realised that my documents and pictures had been deleted. I tried to run a game and my save files had been deleted.
I restarted my computer and everything was normal.
Is this an issue computer or just Windows 10 in general?
Installation :: Reset This PC Does Nothing
Feb 10, 2016I bought a used PC that came with Windows 10, upgraded from Windows 7. There are still files and such left over from the previous owner so I wanted to do a complete reset of windows 10 and return to factory defaults. The problem is that when I go to settings/recovery and choose the option "Reset this PC" nothing at all happens. I push the button and I can tell it is thinking a little bit, but then nothing at all happens. The PC is functioning as normal, it just won't reset.
So 2 questions:
1. Why reset this pc doesn't do anthing?
2. If I reinstall windows 10 using the media creation tool and a usb flash drive, will that in any way mess up the windows 10 activation? (I don't care about going back to win7 so if I lose that it's fine).

Now problem is that i am unable to do factory reset (lenovo Green leaves screensaver page) even after restarting and pressing F2 key repeatedly.Yesterday i used Auslogics software for registry defragmentation and now my window is not loading .getting start up failed error. when i tried using system restore option...it is not working .(please see screenshot attached .i cant click that box to select local disc C option).

I upgraded to Win10 from Win8.1 when it was released for free upgrades in 2015. It is now 2016 and I wanted to Factory Reset my PC so I can start fresh again. I attempted to do it from Settings/Update and Security/Recovery/Reset this PC as suggested by Microsoft but I received and error saying "There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made." After searching the web I found many different fixes but they all seems so involved. Making a boot flash drive or burning a DVD and use their software... There is an awesome tutorial on this forum called Windows 10 Clean Install but I like to KISS when I can (Keep It Simple Stupid) so I decided to check with Microsoft.com before I started that process.
THE SIMPLE FIX I FOUND THAT WORKED FOR ME:
Go to: Windows 10
Click the "Upgrade Now" button.
Follow the prompts and you're good to go.
Works with Windows 7, 8 and 10.
Installation :: Reset Crashed At 66% Now Nothing
Jan 31, 2016I have a Intel Nuc, which I set up myself with windows 8.1 this was upgraded to windows 10.I tried to reset windows 10 tonight as im selling the computer, it got stuck at 66%, reported an error about not being able to complete, after a number of attempts and the same result i chose the option to restart pc.
Upon restart i now get nothing at all, no bios screen, no windows screen, not recognising prompts from keyboard. Tried external dvd player with original windows disc in, usb powers it but nothing. Just a black screen of nothing!!!! Monitor recognises hdmi cable is connected, its like the pc wont display anything.
