Installation :: Reset Failed - Can't Boot Computer
Feb 10, 2016
So my computer has been kinda laggy and running slowly so I figured I would do a clean reset of Windows 10. It noted that it would take hours, which was fine. However about an hour into it, it said there was an error resetting. It then restarted the computer however I can't get passed the "ASUS" start up logo. It goes black and then loops. I hit F9 but none of the options work for me - automatic repair won't work because it says my computer doesn't have an administrator and when I try to reset again from there, it tells me that "a required drive partition is missing." I don't have the greatest knowledge on computers, so I really don't even know what that means.
I've read that I might have to reboot from a USB - how would I go upon doing that? Is there something I can download on the Microsoft website? I don't have a key because the computer came pre-loaded with Windows 8 and I upgraded to Windows 10 for free last year. Will I still be able to boot from a USB?

Recently, I decided to do a factory reset, to cleanly wipe my drive, with the exception of Windows. When the reset was about 30% through, the reset failed. Now, when I try and use my laptop, it only gets to the ASUS logo, then goes to a black screen with a flashing underscore symbol on the top left corner. I've tried doing F9, SHIFT+F9, and everything else in between. My laptop is an ASUS G74SX, and I don't have a recovery partition for the laptop. I also cannot get any external programs for the laptop, such as ISOs, etc.

i tried to wipe my hard drive using the system wipe function in windows settings, and I let it do that while I had to go do something else. I came back to an error that it had an error during the process, and a sole button "cancel." It now tries and fails to boot up past the hp splash screen, and then black screens and resets. It does this in a loop, f8 does nothing, and it detects nothing. My warranty expired a mere 5 days ago, and I am absolutely lost.

I have been trying to install the Windows 10 upgrade to no avail .
I am running windows 7 home premium x-64 on a Gateway NV78 laptop.
Things I have already tried range from deleting programs and device drivers to reinstalling the updater. Have run a clean boot and ran from the updater, the build. a startup disk, and from a usb flash drive. I have deleted my printer drivers, virus software, and cleaners.

Ok so basically, after successfully installing windows 10 from windows 7, I decided to clean my hard drive and reset windows because I deleted my "edge" and thus my apps were not working. The problem then started, the reset went fine until it reached 64% and read "configuring settings" then it just restarted my PC and went in a loop like this;
>startup
>bios screen (Asus/Intel)
>monitor turns off
>monitor turns back on
>blue win10 logo and loading circle
>black screen for 5-10 secs
>install screen displaying 64%
>restarts and loops

I was working with my computer the other day and it rebooted spontaneously. When it did I got a "Preparing Windows" or "Configuring Windows" message after I logged in and when if finished I was back at the very first Windows set up. None of my start menu adjustments were there, none of my mouse, wallpaper, etc. settings were in place, and worst of all I lost all my settings for my Firefox and Thunderbird applications which meant all of my mail history, address book, etc. btw, I wasn't connected to the internet at the time, my connection was down.
I get a message saying it can't? find a profile so it is creating a temp one which will be deleted on shutdown.
I should point out that my files are still there, except for Appdata/Roaming and I do have a back up of my data so if I can stop this reset behavior I can recover data.
Now it reconfigures at every reboot. Even after reestablishing my internet connection.

Earlier this afternoon I decided to reset Windows 10 as I had a problem with BSOD BAD_POOL_CALLING over and over again. I booted in Safe Mode, went to Advanced Options and so on. It wasn't a factory-new reset, just the one that removes all files, app data, etc. I left it for a while and came back to find it hadn't worked; there was an error message that read 'There was a problem whilst restarting your PC'. I tried again and the error message appeared again. Because of this, I decided to exit and continue to Windows 10 and see if it had done anything.
Now, when I try to boot my PC up, the circle that usually rotates on the 'Zoostorm' screen when loading doesn't appear. The PC then reboots and tries again, again and again, but with no success. I have tried turning off and on, and even unplugging everything, however nothing seems to work. My PC is now stuck in a continuous reboot loop and won't load. Unfortunately, I can't press F8 or Shift + F8 when booting to start Safe Mode. I have never made a recovery drive for Windows 10 and I don't think my computer came with a repair disk.

I have a dell inspiron 7000 and recently reinstalled windows 10 into my laptop after I received a system thread exception not handled error with a bootable usb. After painstakingly spending a whole day (10 hours) I succeeded in restoring my laptop with windows 10. Nevertheless, I accidentally restarted my laptop while the bootable usb is still in the usb drive and now my laptop does not even load/boot. The screen just freeze trying to load up the OS as in the spinning dots when the windows first loaded up, after 3 dots loaded, the whole screen freezes. in addition, when I try to load up windows repair, it'll load up an extra dot and freezes at 4 loading dots; I can't even load into the hard-drive through BIOS. The good thing is that I can still access the BIOS and do diagnostic test and all the stuff from BIOS. Other than that, I'm unable to access my computer.

My Acer Aspire One was upgraded to Windows 10. Eventually, I ran into some issues with the start menu not popping up, so I decided to run a clean reset of Windows 10. The reset failed, so I turned off the notebook. When I turned it back on, the message "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart," popped up. My first option was to try to use either f2 or f12 to see if there was some way to get around the issue, but then I remembered that, recently, my notebook had stopped responding to those commands. I do have a USB Logitech K120 keyboard hooked up to it (since the original keyboard messed up,) but it had been working fine for those commands and such up until now.
Today, I downloaded Win 10 using the Media Creation Tool in an attempt to create a bootable USB drive. I plugged that in, yet it doesn't seem to recognize it at all. The same message pops up as before. My acer doesn't have a CD-ROM or anything of the sort, so the USB appears to be my only hope. Is there anything that I can do? I'm hoping there's a way I can force the notebook to recognize the USB, or at least boot into the f2 or f12 commands to see if I can use them in any way.

I have win 10 pro installed on a Samsung 850 pro SSD. In Bios it lists Windows Boot Manager as the #1 option. I selected Samsung ssd as my #1 option, saved and exited. Computer will not boot. Says No OS found-insert media and restart. Did that a couple times. No Boot. Set Bios back to Windows Boot Manager. Everything runs fine. Also Sata controller set to AHCI. Is this normal for Windows 10? In Device manager my storage controller says Microsoft storage space controller.

I tried to reset my computer today after 3 years of using it without any sort of re-formatting, and all three times the reset got stuck on 65% before a blue screen appeared and said that an error occurred. It would then give me the options of either:
a) returning back to my windows 10, with nothing changed
b) Trying to reset again
c) advanced options.
I tried the reset 3 times, and after the last try failed I went to advanced options to look at other ways to approach the issue, such as checking if there were any restore points that I could restore to (which there were none).
After that didn't work, I clicked on the first option of just returning back to my windows 10, and that was when it would not start up anymore.
My computer now is stuck on a infinite loop of the launch screen of the ASUS logo, it flashes, then goes onto the second ASUS logo, and this is all it does, go round and round.
I tried to boot it on F8, F9 (the ASUS recovery button), and the 'delete' button. NOTHING WORKS.
I finally tried F2, which led me to the BIOS page? And I clicked on the boot tab and disabled the first boot configuration option, and still to no avail. It returned to looping, and when trying F8, F9, after disabling that BIOS option, and it still won't do anything but loop.

Have just bought a new computer (Acer E1 572 with I7-4500U processor, running Windows 8.1). Tried to download Windows 10 and at the end of the process the computer shut down and now refuses to restart. When I press the start button the small blue light on the front of the computer flashes 5 times - and that's it. I am not very technically savvy (understatement) and if I had made even a quick glance at this forum and realised that there were so many problems with Windows 10 I would have stayed with Windows 8.1, at least untiI most of the initial bugs were taken care of. What can I do to get my shiny new computer back and running on Windows 8.1?

Im having trouble with my Windows 10 clean install. Once it installs it says it is resetting to complete installation, after it resets it will not load to the windows screen. It just loads bios and hangs with a prompt flashing on a black screen. I then used DISKPART to clean the disks and tried a new install in MBR and again in GPT formats, still the same result. What am I doing wrong? Are the RAID drives causing the problem? The machine was running fine before. I had a free upgrade from 7 and did the process of upgrading to 10 first before the clean install to activate the product. That went fine. I ran the hardware diagnostics from the BIOS and it failed the boot test with error code BIOHD3. Warning: No active partitions.
The machine is a HP with a
HP: Cleveland-GL8 Motherboard
Intel H67 Chipset
Intel i7-2600
9GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [3 DIMMs]
1TB RAID 0 (2 x 500GB SATA HDDs)
1GB DDR3 AMD Radeon HD 6570

I've just bought a little Gigabyte Brix 1900, but when installing Windows 10 I got an error saying:
"Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed"
It turns out that the unit needs a BIOS update to the latest version before Windows 10 can be installed. I just wanted to post this information here, as I imagine this will be a frustration to many others!
With a few workarounds, you can update the BIOS from within the Repair > Tools > Command Prompt options. Just be sure to download the DOS BIOS zip from the gigabyte website (which won't run properly, but contains the ROM), plus the Windows BIOS tool which you can then run from the command prompt.

I tried an XP pro disc that l downloaded and burnt onto a CD,that loaded XP pro on my PC. Which seems to work apart from not been able to access the internet.
I'm thinking maybe l should wipe the hard-drive and try to reinstall my windows 7.

I recently upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 ( Build 10240). I had my overclock settings at 4.4 GHz/1.172 CPU Vin (specs listed at the bottom). My computer had no issues prior to switching to Windows 10. However, my computer always crashes and gives me the "overclock settings have failed" error within the first 10 minutes. This seems to only happen during the first boot session of my computer.
After restarting, the computer seems to run fine with no problems. I've tried restarting with default CPU settings and my usual OC settings. My computer runs for several hours with no issues. The issue comes back after I've turned the computer off for a long period of time (~3-5 hours).
I think its a Windows 10 issue, but I'm not sure.
Specs
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (Build 10240)
Mobo: MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate
CPU: i5-4690k
RAM: Kingston HyperX 8 GB
