View 2 RepliesWhen the computer comes back after being in sleep mode for a while, all the icons and fonts are in much larger size and with very poor definition. If I shut down the computer and start again, everything comes back normal. This issue only started after the upgrade to Windows 10.
View 1 RepliesI hate the windows key. How can I remap it to run a program instead? I want it to run a "show desktop" shortcut I got.
View 1 RepliesI'd like to have an icon or shortcut to Windows Update, preferably in the Start Window.
Currently I have to type "Update" in search to get there. 3 steps, very clunky.
In Windows 7 we had a link in the Start > Programs Menu. Something like that.
Short version: Can I make a shortcut that restarts a program?
Long version: I absolutely love Windows 10 and am so glad I upgraded! The only bad thing about it that I can find so far is that every once in a while the start menu and Cortana will stop working. Well, I did some research and found out that if you go into the task manager and restart "explorer.exe" that it reloads the start menu and Cortana so I tried it and it worked! The only problem now is that I don't want to have to go into the task manager and restart explorer.exe every time so I was wondering... is it possible to make a shortcut that restarts explorer.exe?
When opening it i don't want to see Frequent folders and files, how can i change it so i can see only the drives?

Sometimes the the taskbar overlap the print button. Is there a way to open this box in small size.
Shortcuts used to be indicated by a fairly unobtrusive arrow in the corner. A few days ago they changed to an overly visible white arrow in a green circle in the lower middle of the program icon. Then they changed to a gray X in the corner. Now they're back to the arrow in the green circle.
View 7 RepliesAfter checking and configuring my router I went to the regular desktop view which is plain and looks like Win7. Only the quick access, internet icon, notices, language and clock icons were visible. I had created a new toolbar which referenced the start menu in Windows Program Data. It was spread across the taskbar rather than compacted and previously available by clicking on the title Programs tucked in beside Quick Access.
There was no visible line to use with the cursor for dragging this bunch of links across into the right side area. I removed that toolbar.
The few daily use Taskbar shortcut icons when created cannot be dragged to the taskbar even if I lock it. (Browser, email, Notepad++,Everywhere search and a link to a Quick Stack popup collection of shortcuts). Any open application is not displaying on the taskbar
Considered a 'Restore' and checked the list of restore points with a utility System Restore Explorer and it lists Oct.20 as the last restore point. I'm assuming Win10 does not do a daily restore point.
The last system image is Oct.7 so several Windows updates would have to be done over and there are a couple of those. Is there a registry edit or workaround to restore the taskbar so shortcuts can be pinned there?
My challenge is that I'm running a program that refuses to retain it's taskbar setting to always show. So, everytime I reboot, I have to go to "SystemNotifications & actionsSelect which icons appear on the taskbar" and find the program (it's Choicemail) and toggle on the notification.
I have a shortcut to get me to the "SystemNotifications & actions dialog", but I'd really like to go direct to the "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" dialog.
I'd use a macro to execute, but with Windows 10 walking away from shortcut keys on most system settings, I haven't figured that out. I also don't know what CMD to use from an admin run instance to get there.
Is it possible to place different sets of icons on different desktop ? For example, having desktop 1 empty, desktop 2 full of files, desktop 3 with shortcuts to programmes/games, etc. Also is there a way to have a different wallpaper on each desktop, to tell them apart faster ?
My guess is all of that is not possible, given that additional desktops are not supposed to be "permanent", but rather added/deleted quickly. But maybe with a bit of tweaking ?
I have used the Office XP shortcut bar with every windows version up to windows 7 without problems. When I upgraded to Windows 10, the Icons only show a ? and the program associated with the icon will only execute if I right click on the icon and click either open or run as administrator. The program name associated with the icon will display when I hover over the icon.
Is there any fix for displaying the actual icon picture? I have more programs that I use daily than would fit on the task bar. I don't want to clutter my desktop with icons. The shortcut bar allows me to organize my program icons in different task bars so I would like to continue using it.
What do I keep doing to decrease the size of the icons on my desktop? It's not killing me, but it's INCREDIBLY annoying to have to resize the icons every three minutes. This never happened in Windows 8.1 by the way.
View 9 RepliesI just installed windows 10 but I dont quite like the small size of the taskbar icons. How do i increase their size without increasing the size of everything else?
View 1 RepliesProbably a simple answer, but I can't find out how?

View 7 RepliesI created shortcuts for my most used Windows 10 apps/tiles to my desktop, but some of the shortcuts have blank icons. I re-copied some and they stuck, but a few others are still blank after several retries. i.e. Scan and Store are blank but Calendar, Calculator, Photos, Weather and Alarms have the correct icons.
View 1 RepliesI had shortcut icons on the windows classic desktop in windows 10 and now they have disappeared and I cant get them to come back.
View 2 RepliesI have a high resolution screen, so the taskbar seems disproportionately small by default/ In prior versions of Windows I would just increase the taskbar height and icons would adjust in size accordingly, but not so with Windows 10. How can I resize them, or is this deature just not implemented yet? I am using build 10130

View 8 RepliesSize of text and size of toolbox icons are tiny. About half the size as items on this text function. Tried everything ...
Fast Stone Image Viewer is example...
My desktop icons will not open full size. Each time I open one I have to maximize it to full size.
This has only happened recently, I presume since the last auto update.
How do I reset to open full size automatically.
how can i enlarge the size of the font beneath the icons on the screen as attached
View 4 RepliesI have just plugged in a second monitor to my PC, the resolution of both monitors are as recommended (1) is 1366 x 768 and the other (2) which is the main display is 1920 x 1080 - I would like to increase the size of the font, task bar icons etc on my main display (2) but when I go to the "advanced sizing of text and other items" and then to the "Change only the text size" I cannot select specific items as this part is grayed out and I cant click on it. Could it be because I am trying to change something on the (2) monitor (even though it is ticked as my main display)?
View 1 RepliesI can't believe I can't find this solution online. I've seen like 8 tutorials and none of them have worked. I have my Surface Pro 2 and 4, and basically, I want to make it more touch friendly. For the last 2 years I have been going into a folder and making it "large" or "medium" icons; but I did it for the same folders every time. Now, I just got my Surface Pro 4 and I just want ALL the folders to be like that by default and change the ones I don't want when I need it.
How can I do it!? Most places on the net say "right click folder, customize, optimize for pictures" and apply to all subfolders, but it doesn't work on my desktop, my surface pro 2 nor my surface pro 4. So... how can I achieve this?
I like the monochrome look of the taskbar shortcuts (like the Start button, Cortana, Task View, etc.). I swore that when I first installed Windows 10, the Store app icon and the Xbox app icon were both pinned there in black and white. But now they've adopted those generic color backgrounds (blue for Store and green for Xbox). How do I get them back to monochrome? I'd also like to do this for Edge's icon too.
