well Windows 10 installed smoothly starting from inside hub.The computer from my wife installed in the same way, BUT while i can get the STARTSCREEN, she gets the older start that was there in some of the previous builds.

When I troubleshot and do a "reset this pc" it keeps coming up with "there was a problem resetting your pc" no changes were made". Nothing is working for me.

View 6 RepliesWhenever I log-in from hibernate or boot, the start interface shows. I had this enabled in Windows 8.1 (start screen), but now I'm on 10 (no start screen) and it still shows.
There is no option to disable it. Is there a registry key to disable this?
P.S. My start screen is normal, not full screen.
On my home network, the other Win 10 PC is suddenly showing in my taskbar near the task view icon. I like the idea and would like to set the other Win 10 machine to do the same but I can't find out how or why it decided to show up.

Why suddenly out of the blue my network quit showing one of my computers? I have a tablet and laptop both with windows 10. my tablet still shows both computers, but my laptop no longer shows the tablet. I didn't change anything. What can cause this and how do I fix it?

I don't want that because others are going to be using it here at home.
I don't want any restrictions for accessing this pc.
How do I get rid of the requirement to enter my email password?
p.s. same thing happens when I restart or wake it up from sign out.... it asks for my password.
After the Windows 10 upgrade my computer goes to a black screen with only the cursor showing and nothing else shows....
View 1 RepliesI just performed a fresh install of Windows 10 10049 on my Surface Pro 3 and now the Start menu/screen does not show when I press the Start button. Looking for regedit to re enable the menu. The problem existed on 10041 but was working initially after the install completed but stopped working shortly afterwards.

View 4 RepliesI have installed Aome hdd manager on my W10 PC and laptop. On the PCs it appears in the start menu and also as an icon in the start menu.
But on the laptop it is not showing, have uninstalled and reinstalled and created a shortcut from the installed .exe file then chose pin to start menu, but still nothing ...
Today I was going to power off my PC and went to start menu and when clicking on the power option it pops up the squeare but its empty. Has no options totally empty.

Similarly in language drop-down, English is not listed, neither are US or UK listed as countries. What do I do?

View 4 RepliesAs I stated in the subject line, Windows 10 setup, whether using the regular update method, running the ISO from within Windows, or using the Media Creation Tool, only asks for product key and there is no option (button) for 'Upgrade'.
This may sound confusing so I want to make it clear that I am NOT trying to do a clean install on a system that hasn't been activated yet. I'm talking about the very first upgrade install. It won't work.
A couple of days ago I DID see the 'Upgrade this PC' (or something like that) and the install started but failed due to the ever popular Pentium G3258 CPU problem. There was advice all over the 'Net that all you had to do was disable one of the CPU cores in the BIOS and the install would complete just fine.
So I disabled the core and tried to start the install again.
Now the installation procedure won't even begin. It just sits there. It says 'Product key" in big letters and "Windows isn't activated on this PC. This means you'll have to enter the Windows 10 product key below or exit" and the only two buttons are Back and Next, both of which are grayed out.
I thought maybe the Windows 10 installation files were corrupt or something so I wiped the system and reinstalled 7 from scratch (Oh yeah, that was really a fun part of my day) and re-downloaded and used the Media Creation Tool again and selected (whatever it says) to begin the upgrade installation and now it's still doing what it was before, asking for a product key instead of running the upgrade installation.
I want to make it clear one more time because I'll get TL;DR answers such as "You can't do a clean install, you have to do the upgrade method first so Windows 10 can generate your hash and activate":
I am NOT attempting to do a clean install. I'm trying to run the initial 'Upgrade' method. I fully understand that you can't do a clean install without the upgrade being completed first. Why it's asking for a product key instead of starting an upgrade installation?
I went through the install process of Windows 10. It installed, and then asked to restart. I allowed it to restart then nothing changed once it came back from a reboot. Still Windows 8. No popup showing install is continuing. Nothing.

View 1 RepliesI have apps installed from the Microsoft store on my laptop but they don't show up on the start menu to be able to pin to the start menu. They also don't show up under the "All Apps" area. Is there a way to force apps to show up so that I can pin them to the start menu?
Twice now I've had pinned apps disappear from my start menu - for example, I pinned a game & the notepad to the start menu. Then when going back to the start menu later, they're gone. I have repinned them in a different spot on the start menu & they seem to be staying now - is this normal?
Upgraded from Windows 7 a couple of months ago with no issues. Then a few weeks ago computer wouldn't boot and needed several tries of using the reset button and also turning it off and on to get it going. No error messages at all. Tried a clean boot to no avail and yesterday used the Recovery/ Reset option. No issues with that, all went well and I re-installed a few programmes like Mailwasher, Avast, Malwarebytes, Firefox and Thunderbird. This morning it was back to the old issue of not booting for several tries. Then it came on.
So the Reset did nothing. I have never received any error messages. Once it gets going it works fine but it is becoming very tedious to have to wait so long for it to start.
Since I downloaded Windows 10 I have to unplug and plug the computer in every morning to start it. During the day it will come on by hitting a key stroke but after sitting for several hours it will not start. I can hit the switch on the computer and the light on the computer comes on but will not start until it is unplugged and plugged back in. I have a gateway with two lights on the front. The best I can tell one indicates the power is on and the other one is for the processor. The second one is the one that will not light up until unplugged and plugged back in. I was thinking it has something to do with going to sleep/hibernation but can not find any where I can change that.
View 3 RepliesLast winter I built my own computer. I had to try to install windows 8.1 like three times because something was mess up. It eventually worked. Every time I turn my pc on it has a 50% chance to boot normally. The other 50%, my computer blacks out. The screen is the solid color of my windows color. I can either wait 20 minutes for it to fix itself or press the reset button. It still happens when I installed windows 10. Also when I put my pc on sleep it sometimes freezes up. I can use my mouse to press the restart button and it will take a minute to reboot. What is the problem? Should I replace some parts or look inside?
View 1 RepliesIm having trouble with my Windows 10 clean install. Once it installs it says it is resetting to complete installation, after it resets it will not load to the windows screen. It just loads bios and hangs with a prompt flashing on a black screen. I then used DISKPART to clean the disks and tried a new install in MBR and again in GPT formats, still the same result. What am I doing wrong? Are the RAID drives causing the problem? The machine was running fine before. I had a free upgrade from 7 and did the process of upgrading to 10 first before the clean install to activate the product. That went fine. I ran the hardware diagnostics from the BIOS and it failed the boot test with error code BIOHD3. Warning: No active partitions.
