Bit of background: Was getting 8024601 errors when attempting to upgrade with the Windows Update method. It would start installing, get to 85% before stopping for a while. Then it would finally reset, only to boot up win 8.1 and Windows update would have the above error code for the attempt.
So I decided to try the Media Creation Tool instead. I select the option to upgrade this PC, it downloads fine, and everything goes okay until it wants to reboot my machine. Tried it twice, first time it sat there waiting to restart. It never did, no programs exited, didn't log off or anything. Second time it gets to the same stage, but locked up my computer instead.

Ok . I am getting random system lockups, can happen anytime. Sometimes using when using chrome or just on desktop. Happens most often when windows is on login screen, or sometime right before windows loads. Playing any game I have will cause crash to desktop. Crash time varies from game loading screen to playing game for a few minutes.
So far I have reinstalled windows 3 times. I have replaced motherboard because it crashed during bios update, thus ruining mobo, tried different power supply also. After installing windows I have installed latest drivers that I could find, didnt seem to make any difference from the drivers that were loaded when windows was first installed. I did notice that after I installed pc matic I got constant BSOD, So I uninstalled it. fewer BSOD But still have lockups and game crashes.
I have ran memtest for 24 hours with no errors, also ran tests on ssd and hdd drives with no errors.

This error started happening only on computers with 1511 installed. The original RTM of Windows 10 doesn't do this, nor do Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. I tried some Google searches but all I see are relevant to 7 or 8, not Windows 10. It must have been something changed between RTM and 1511 that did it, too.
When I refurbish computers for our employees, I wipe the hard drive completely (either diskpart "clean" via the recovery shell, or using DBAN to wipe the partition table if I can't get into WinRE.
I then boot it up using network boot. We have a Windows Deployment Services server set up so we can install Windows using PXE. I put the Windows 10 Enterprise Version 1511 .wim in there and it installs fine.
After install I make a local account, make sure the drivers get installed automatically (so far, it's been auto-magic for all our hardware, even NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards), install antivirus + MS Office and whatever special software that employee would need, and then I name the machine and put it on the domain.
To prevent extra crap from being created in C:/Users (and in the registry) I don't log in with a domain account. I let the employees do that themselves.
The first time any domain account* tries to log in, it errors after about 20 seconds with
Code:
Windows couldn't connect to the System Event Notification Service service. Please consult your system administrator.
If they put their password in again, it goes through and all the initial settings are applied from our Group Policy Objects.
*I noticed that if I log in as an account which is a Domain Administrator (and via our GPOs, is also added to the Administrators group on the machine), I don't get that error. It only shows up for "normal" users which are not part of admins.
Nothing critical by any means as it will always work on the second try, but I'm really curious why it happens at all. What service is it even trying to connect to? The fact it happens on literally every computer (it even happens in VMWare images which I've done to test GPO settings) would imply it's not a problem with a particular machine, rather something in our domain. Or it's possible there's a GPO that was set years ago for Windows 7 that didn't cause any detrimental effects until now.

Have used Windows 10 for awhile now with no problems. Yesterday, on 18 Sep I updated I Tunes. I don't know if that is linked to the problems that followed since it had been more than 24 hours since I used the PC. I tried to play Day of Defeat and it worked for awhile, but then froze up. Could not control-alt-delete and had to power down, then power back up. PC said Windows did not load correctly and do you want to try again. I said yes and Windows came up OK. Tried to play Day of Defeat again to see if the problem still existed and the game was all herky jerky and not playing correctly, but I was able to close it.
Checked around on the internet. Ran System File Checker. Came up with "could not fix corrupted file taskhostw.exe, source file in store also corrupted." Got same response to bthenum.sys. But, the last line of the SFC details said, "Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired." So, were they fixed or not fixed? I tried to go to restore to go back to an earlier restore point, but then I got system protection error 0X8000FFFF, with most buttons grayed out. In services, microsoft software shadow copy is running on manual, task scheduler is running on auto, and volume shadow copy is running on manual. I have tried the first and last on auto, but still cant access all system restore capabilities or the scheduler to schedule restore points. I did have three restore points listed and have tried the two oldest with no improvement.
I have tried disc check and disc cleanup with no changes noted.
I have a USB recovery thumb drive and partitions on the hard drive. If used, I guess that will cause me to lose all my loaded programs, same if I "reset" the computer.
In August I added Malwarebytes to run a scan as things were acting oddly then. I guess it was Malwarebytes anti-exploit because now I can’t uninstall Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. I get, "File “C:Program files (x86)Malwarebytes Anti-Exploitunins000.dat” does not exist. Cannot uninstall." I added malwarebytes anti malware as part of my recent efforts, but only found some PUP files. Windows defender found no viruses.
How do I get my PC to begin working properly again? Do I have to go the reset/recovery route and then rebuild everything?? Or is there a better, less terrible option?
How do I get system restore to work properly?
How do I get Day of Defeat to work properly?

When I open the Task Scheduler, I get many error messages, which mostly resemble to "Task Name: The task object version is either unsupported or invalid" along with a few "The selected task 'Name' no longer exists. To see current task, click Refresh".
One thing I noticed, the tasks were all/mostly (I haven't fully checked) outside the "Microsoft" folder under "Task Scheduler Library" based on my research into the Registry Editor. I have also deleted a few with a back up for each, but, if I try to restore the registry files with elevated rights, I get an error message: "This app can't run on your PC - To find a version with your PC, check with the software publisher". This includes the "regidlebackup" task which I shouldn't have deleted, but it does not want to be restored.
I don't think this occurred before I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7.Also, I could revert back to Windows 7, but the problem is if this issue would be solved by doing so.
Computer Specifications:
Dell, XPS 8300. Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40GHz.
12 GB RAM, 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor.
I have tried listing the tasks (before the changes in RegEdit) into a text file. For privacy, I have replaced my name by "????".
test.txt
Due to no one responding after 2 days or so, I took the risk of deleting the entries corresponding to the tasks' name in the registry after having exporting each entry. So far, the computer seem to work even after a restart and the Task Schedule shows no error after being opened and the logs/windows in the middle also work.
From my guess, upgrading to Windows 10 failed to delete the old entries after re-arranging them in the registry.

Was using computer like any other day and it became unresponsive. Music was still playing normally but nothing would respond. Couldn't even use CTRL+ALT+DEL. So I turned computer off. Restart wanted to do a 'Startup Repair', that seemed unresponsive as well. Can't get into Windows anymore. Can't seem to do a clean install either. When I start computer it stays at the all black screen with a blue windows logo forever; the one with the circle of dots going around.
Was booting from SSD but do also have HDD. I bought SSD new in November 2015. I've never had so much trouble trying to do a clean install before.

I have 2 monitors on my system. When the system comes up from power saving mode (unsure if in true sleep mode but user password is required) the task bar on the primary monitor is missing. The secondary monitor has it but not primary touch screen. I've tried various things like toggling auto hide, etc, to no avail but restarting brings it back.

The upgrade process seems to go on Ok, but, near the end I see this message:
"The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again.
"Errors 0xC1900101-0x20017
"The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation.

OK I did my windows 10 upgrade now on three machines. two of the machines were single user windows 8.1 prior to upgrade, but one was a Windows 7 Pro machine. I ran the upgrade, but lost my kids user id log on. I had a user id for them set up as a user with no admin rights and no password. I am not opposed to it having a password, now that the kids are teenagers, but I can't figure out how to recreate the user ID so that it is attached to all there saved files. Lots of schoolwork was saved on there ID. I can access it with my admin user account, but want to restore there id.

I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 and lost LAN, so could not connect to internet. Troubleshooter advised a possible driver problem with the network card, however the Realtek GBT family card showed up as working in device manager. Researching Internet came up with no solution. I rolled back to 8.1, found updated drivers for the network card, installed them, and upgraded again. Still the same problem. A friend upgrading from 7 had the same problem and with the same network card, and wireless. I realised we both had PrivateFirewall installed, and as soon as I uninistalled it, Internet was working again.

I have upgraded from windows 8.1 pro to windows 10 pro. After the upgrade the one drive logo that use to be displayed using file explorer is no longer visually available. It is not shown in the apps list or the task bar.
I have upgraded a total of 3 identical systems. My main computer does not show one drive the other two do show one drive in file explorer.

I seem to have lost all my files, music and apps in my W10 user account. I am unable to click on the start menu, the only way I can get any function from it is to right click on it. The start menu does not seem to work on any of the accounts.
Have uninstalled my McAfee AV
Have tried to do a W10 reinstall ( The previous version of windows was W8.1) But get the "Something Happened W10 Instillation has failed" at first the 25% 33% 44% and now the 83% part of the instillation.

We recently upgraded the OS of our old Win7 desktop to Windows 10. This came with OneDrive, and we decided to put all our photos on OneDrive, to save space (which I since discovered it doesn't do). So we transferred all our photos, saved in several folders and subfolders. We then got a new computer, so we synced the new one to OneDrive, and all the files (or so we thought) automatically downloaded to it.
Today I discovered to my horror that even though all the folders are there, and the photos saved in primary folders are there, most of the subfolders are empty! How come - why didn't the files in those subfolders transfer when the folder itself was transferred? Most of the folders were fortunately backed up on USB sticks, but not all of the children's photo folders - including my daughter's photos of last year's school trip to Iceland.
Are Windows aware of this problem? Is there any chance they could still be hanging around somewhere? (And yes, I've checked the Recycle basket.)

Having run the Insider program for several months I decided to use my Windows 7 Pro disk to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro by creating a new partition and installing and upgrading there. The PC has happily dual-booted for a month or so from Volume2 (Insider on the original System Reserved and C: partitions) and Volume3 (Windows 10 Pro on I:). I've been gradually building up Volume3 with all my programs ready to transfer permanently, but as I was running out of room I used MiniTool Partition Wizard (from Volume2) to reduce the size of Volume2 and increase the size of Volume3. I realize now that was a daft thing to do, as the PC will no longer boot from Volume3! Is there a relatively simple way of making Volume3 bootable again? If too much is involved I may decide simply to run Insider for ever.
Update - I should have added that I've tried repairing it using the Windows 10 disk with which I installed it, and it simply says that it's not repairable.

I was running win 7 with 4 partitions , thought to upgrade to win 10. While installing it didn't allowed me to install. I thought i can run diskpart clean on one partition, selected one volume and ran clean command, but it still cleaned all the partitions. Long story short, I cannot boot my OS until I install OS on freshly created single partition. I was told to use partition recovery apps like partition and mount software, Do I have to install OS on it anyways and once OS is installed, instal the partition and mount software for the recovery?

I upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7. All was working fine. Now, I can't access the modern start screen, cortana or apps. The following things might have cause this: I changed my PCs name, I installed more ram, I created a local log in and there was an update just before this happened. I tried to use a restore point but the laptop said it failed. I have tried the powershell solution with no luck. I have tried creating a new user but it won't let me add a new user.

losing all their bookmarks and their password database when they restarted Firefox after the update from Windows 7 (or any other version) -> Windows 10??
Yes, did create system image but did not preserve C:users (-> U:) *. Even the old folder no longer had my bookmarks, and moving the old passwd and master key file did not allow Moz to figure it out.**
* I don't want users on my SSD drive -- I add/delete stuff WAYYY too often, so it sits on a spinny drive and is connected via a junction point.
** electronic god(desse)s for even a 7-month-old backup, so I didn't lose that much in terms of moz config.
