Trying to upgrade from windows 7 to 10 I get unable to upgrade, Screen driver incompatible (old dell Laptop). So i created a Windows 10 iso and installed windows and lo and behold the screen works perfectly - now the problem is I can't activate as I can't upgrade so I don't get a windows 10 Key !!!!!!
View 9 RepliesI learned how to perform the clean install of Windows 10 after the upgrade. The problem is after I'm finally at the desktop. There seems to be a background process of installing the realtek drivers and Nvidia drivers. But Windows update will also detect the Nvidia drivers and install them as well. But they fail every time.

View 3 RepliesI am trying to upgrade to Windows 10. I clicked on the flag symbol and a box appeared with a spinning wheel and the message please wait. I waited and waited for 2 hours on numerous occasions but nothing happened and now I recieve a message saying "reserve your upgrade now" but the link still dousent work. Is there anouther way I can upgrade for free.? I dont know if its because millions of people are trying to connect at once or what. What appears in the box when it opens. I have Windows 7, legal as far as I know as I got the computer secondhand.

Got a sabertooth z77 with two ssd on raid 0 (intel) another hard drive for backups (Regular sata) and another storage card (pciexpress sas highpoint 2720, with raid 5)
Windows 10 doesnt seem to like this.
Even booting the dvd itself its a drag and hr wont recognize the raid 0 not even with drivers (driver load will cause a watchdog blue screen)
Windows 7 and 8 dont mind. At all.
I feel like the csm thingy might have something to do.
Bios is latest. Sas raid is for storage only. Ill search for the manual of the board as the printed one doesnt have the options i got on the screen
I used MiniTool Partition wizard to migrate the OS from my HDD to a new SSD. Process worked fine and the SSD booted. Problem is when I try to do an inplace upgrade to Windows 10 Insider preview on the SSD. The installation stops with the message that windows cannot be installed to a USB drive. Perhaps the problem is that there is no hidden system partition on the SSD?
View 3 RepliesAnyhow I am currently using windows 7 (not a fan of windows 8). Since windows 10 is released I wanted to install and try it. Initially I installed windows 8.1 in my D: drive (works normally as far as I can tell), and upgrade it to windows 10. I am keeping my windows 7 in drive C: as I do not have any other working computer if the installation failed.
So halfway upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10, the upgrade failed and a restart is needed. When restarting I tried to reset the installation but even that is failed. When restarted again there is no operating system in that drive (drive D: ) ??
Currently I tried to reformat my drive D: (windows 10) with my current windows 7 (installed in drive C) but it says the volume is in use by another process but it refused.
Summary
Drive C: - windows 7, still functioning properly
Drive D - where windows 8.1 is located and upgraded to windows 10 but failed, currently cannot detect any os when I boot from drive D: , and cant format the drive.
I know its really complicated the way i installed my windows 8.1 with my windows 7 intact, but I'm worried if the installation failed, I have no backup computer to fall back.
I just updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Here's my specs:

So, I had problems going from Vista to windows 7 because of graphics drivers in the past, and I assume this is the same problem. What happened was I installed everything, came back and my screen was black, no cursor, with the laptop still on. I turned it off and turned it back on, and after the windows load-up it goes black again.
I tried using windows + p to project to a different monitor, but no luck. I tried a lot of different things that I won't bore you with.
Here's my guesses: My graphics driver is out of date, so once I get that up to date I think I might be good, but I'm not sure.
I'm currently on integrated graphics mode, which I think is working as well. I think the other setting is called external, but I'm not positive. I think when my battery is low and I start up my laptop, it switches to inegrated to conserve power, which is why I'm able to be on here right now.
I just downloaded & installed a driver for my graphics card from Geforce.com, and am gonna reboot, which is why I posted this now in case I can't make it back, lol. If you post though I'll be able to see it on my phone, but I might not be able to respond (I can't type sometimes - it closes my keyboard).
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.
I have a pre-built laptop with official W7 on it. The HD had a failure last year and since I was too busy to take care of it I gave it to a friend who just cloned it. Result, now Windows is not recognized as legit and no system feature works (including system restore, the search function, Windows updates). I still used it without problems but now I built one for myself and I'm giving the laptop to my father, and thought the best way to clean all that mess was to use the free Windows 10 upgrade to format everything and do a clean install with that.
Is there any way I can "trick" my system in thinking it's legit again so that I can get the free Windows 10 upgrade?
Yesterday, Friday 7, 2015 I upgraded by computer to the Windows 10 operating system from Windows 7. Since then, however, my CD/DVD drive is not detected and/or recognized.
The icon on my device manager has a icon of Media with a ? mark on it and when I click on it blank.
I have looked under Device Manager for the CD/DVD drive, and there's nothing there.
My dvd player drive isn't listed and when you try and play a dvd the player spins but doesn't play anything since upgrading to windows 10. I have checked in device manager and it says device is working properly. I have also done the upgrade driver and it says I have the latest driver.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Ultimate, but the drive is not recognized by the OS. However, the drive does show up in BIOS. I have searched and cannot find a driver for this drive.
View 9 RepliesI just upgraded to Windows 10 as I planned to use the weekend to sort out any issues I might encounter during the upgrade. Well boy did I ever. My Seagate 3TB drive decided it no longer wanted to be recognized by Windows anymore. It shows up as a failed/deactivated drive in Disk Management as seen here: [URL] It also shows up in Speccy as a physical drive. I currently have 2TB of data on there (including an OS image I did just before the upgrade as an extra prep step), so reformatting the volume is not an option until I get the data off.
View 9 RepliesI upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 at the first opportunity on July 30 after registering with Microsoft. The upgrade appeared to progress smoothly and I was able to boot the computer to see the new desktop screen. However, very soon after this first boot, the computer asked me to restart to finish the upgrade. This I did and my computer has since been rendered unusable. Every time I boot, the computer gets stuck on the welcome screen. It displays the generic circular user icon, with my name written underneath and the word "Welcome" written underneath this. The animated "computer working" icon (the little dots which rotate again and again) is displayed next to this. However, it never goes away. I left the computer for 12 hours and nothing changed (the little dots kept on rotating all the while). The computer otherwise appears fine (ie. the multimedia buttons at the top of the keyboard work fine) but the OS cannot get past this screen, no matter what I do.
I have unplugged all USB devices. I have tried booting with the power cable in and out. I have gone into the Advanced tab of the setup menu and disabled (and re-enabled) things like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi top test if this makes a difference. Nothing does. As things currently stand, I am completely unable to use my computer and all my files are stranded. Several of them are desperately needed.
I have tried pressing F8 to boot the computer in safe mode, but this doesn't seem to work (it results in a back lit but otherwise black screen).
A friend upgraded their computer (HP Compaq 6710q) to Windows 10 recently. It boots up ok, but after about a minute the screen starts flashing periodically. Nothing can be done or executed on the computer.
View 3 RepliesI just upgraded to Win 10 on my Acer Aspire One netbook, but cannot get the bottom of the display to be visible. The start button/task bar is off screen, and I cannot find a way to fix it.
The native display of the netbook is 1024X600, and display was set at 1024X768 in Win 7, and worked fine. Now, even if I set the display resolution back to 1024X600, the icons just get bigger, and the bottom ones are mostly off screen.
I even tried 800X600, but that was just worse.
Without the start button and task bar, it is hard to try anything.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 from 2011. Windows 10 is installed and working, Using it right now but with an external monitor. Found several posts about booting into a black screen but they seem to only be the case when there is a cursor floating round as well.
My problem is that when I boot up the laptop I get the windows 10 loading screen. Then it goes black and stays black. The screen is definitely on but not showing anything. And I've left it for an hour and nothing happens. But when I plug in a second monitor it works on there and seems to detect this second monitor as the only one. Once this monitor is attached, the laptop screen turns itself off and cannot be turned back on, not even to the state it was in before of just being black.
Checked and all drivers are up to date. If I change the settings, by hitting windows key and p, to extend the screen then i can drag the mouse from the second monitor into apparently nothing so I really can't tell if the computer knows about its own screen or not. Also sound is working through the laptop.
After installing Windows 10 - on the first login screen, when I enter my password pc is freezing up, after a few seconds it fades to black and then restarts. Cannot get past this part. The PC I'm upgrading is a Dell Inspiron laptop upgrading from Win7.
View 6 RepliesI downloaded the MediaCreationToolx64.exe to upgrade to windows 10 but it failed at 83%. An blue error screen appeared with . I wasn't even able to read the error because my laptop shut down.
So I tried upgrading to windows 10 again but now it requires me to give a product key. I tried to put my windows 7 product key but it does not work.
According to my computer, Windows7 is activated and is a genuine product. But when I attempt to download W10, it does not recognize the 25 digit Product Key. I don't know what to do.
View 8 RepliesI upgraded from windows 7 ultimate to windows 10. It seemed to install okay and asked me to log on and select setup preferences, which I did. I left it alone to finish setup and it went to sleep. Now I only get a black screen with an active cursor. I've tried multiple hard restarts, entering logon blindly as suggested in other posts and using windows key-p to switch monitors all to no affect. Ctrl-alt-del has no effect. I cannot bring up any screen and so cannot start in safe mode or download video card drivers. I do not have Windows 10 on media.
View 1 RepliesI recently re-installed Windows 10 on my Asus X205TA notebook using the ISO on a USB stick.It installed without a problem, but when I boot the computer now (first boot after installation), the OS does not recognise the keyboard and the mouse, so I cannot enter the required data to proceed to the next screen..
Seems like the required drivers are missing, and I am thinking a re-install may be necessary, but how to get the keyboard and mouse drivers included (inserted?) in the installation process?
I have downloaded Win10 onto my laptop. The DVD is: UltraNote Series: 8x SATA DVD-R/RW/Dual Layer (+ 24x CD-RW)
I thought that everything was fine after I had re loaded Norton which had disappeared. All other icons and programmes were intact. I then attempted to load another program via a disc but found that win 10 doesn't know that the drive exists.
I am using my PC with win 7 to type this info.
I am attempting to hide the driver update for my NVIDIA Grapgics card as the one from Microsoft causes me problems.

It doesn't matter how many times I run it the Driver update will not hide and therefore I am unable to update my computer without installing this troublesome update.
The DVD drive worked fine prior to installing Win 10 - now the computer doesn't recognize it. Win 10 apparently thinks it is a removable drive. The CD-DVD drive is recognized in BIOS.
How do I diagnose the problem?
