Installation :: Unable To Install Favorites Or Favorites Bar
Aug 19, 2015
After activation, the IE Favorites + Bar didn't install from Windows 8.1. I attempted to install using The Hub but it came back with 'Couldn't import favorites' from IE. I managed a manual install using cut and paste from the legacy IE file to the Favourites file in Win 10. This was successful for both Favorites and Favorites Bar, but it only lasted until the the machine was rebooted. The Favorites/Bar were once again missing from Win 10.
I have lost all my Favorites in Edge. I have recovered a copy of the desired Favorites and have placed these favorites on my desktop as a file folder. The file structure has all the folders, and within each folder, the links to all the favorite websites. I have tried placing the contents of this file into the following location:
I understand that this is the default location for Edge Favorites. With the desired "Favorites" folder placed and verified in the above location and I open Edge and click on Favorites and all I see under Favorites are two folders "Favorites Bar" and "BookmarksBar" (as expected both currently empty). I had hoped to see also an expandable "Favorites" folder with all the subfolders. How to use the previous referenced Desktop file folder or its content to restore my Favorites in Edge.
I can't figure out how to add new favorites to my favorites bar since going to windows 10. I click on the star to add and click on "add" but nothing happens.
I successfully installed Windows 10 on my Panasonic laptop but when I went to Internet Explorer and then to Google, all my favorites were gone. I was under the misconception that this wonder-product would update my systems seamlessly.
I just installed Windows 10 over my Windows 7 Pro installation. Everything seemed to go well. I can see most of my stuff migrated (background, start menu items, etc.). BUT one thing that I was sure should migrate didn't - my Internet Explorer Favorites are nowhere to be found in the Windows 10 installation.
It took some digging, but I discovered that IE is still installed in Windows 10. Clicking the ... button gives you the option to "open with Internet Explorer".
To migrate your favorites from IE to Edge, click the ... button in Edge and go to Settings. You will have an option to "Import favorites from another browser" - and IE is one of the "other browsers" available.
I followed the steps I found, but it didn't work. From old W8 laptop onto a usb, then onto new W10 laptop. It says finished, and "you have successfully.........". But then I check and they are not there.
I wonder more and more about the purpose of Edge when it lacks so many capabilities IE and other browsers have.Surely not just to be able to make webnotes, which is pretty awesome, but......... I can't find a way to organize favorites in Edge. Is there a way?
I have all my Favorites from IE 11 and Chrome in the Favorites bar in Microsoft Edge, but it shows the icons and titles with them, how do I get only the icons to show ?, would save a lot of space in the Favorites bar.
I really like IE feature to easy import/export Favorites to pen drive or any other destination. EDGE offers only to import Favorites from IE which is a deal breaker for me. I have seen advices to copy Favorite file from EDGE directory which is buried deep in the system and cumbersome to use. Is there plan to add this IE feature of easy import/export Favorites to EDGE?
I have three grumbles. One, why is the Favorites panel on the right side? What benefit did that create? How to move it to the Left? Can't be done?
Two: My favorites are not alpha sorted by me. On my IE browser, they were arranged and listed by frequency of use, and importance in my work. Edge default sorts them alpha anyway. Can I Stop this unwanted sort feature? Three, I like my favorites panel to come up with the browser, and not want to click on another icon to show it.
When I first upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10 all my Favorites imported into Microsoft Edge. At the time I didn't know that the Favorites for Microsoft Edge are stored in a different folder other than the Windows 7 folder of C:usersmikefavorites. I was told that they are stored in the folder C:UsersMikeAppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbweACMicrosoftEdgeUserDefaultFavorites but this is only true for the Favorites that imported during the original Windows 10 Update. Any Favorite that I delete from the Favorites list in Microsoft Edge doesn't get deleted from the Windows 10 Favorites Folder. In addition any new Favorites I create in Microsoft Edge do not show up in the Microsoft 10 Favorites Folder either. So where the heck are they?
i have windows preview for both my PC and surface pro 3.
I updated my pc first and got Microsoft edge browser and created my favorites tab.
I then updated my surface pro 3, but i dont see a way to sync up the browsers so that my favorites show up on my microsoft edge on my pro 3. I rather not have to do the favorites bar again.
I've updated 3 of my PCs with the fall update and I can't seem to get Edge to sync favorites. I imported favorites on the first PC, and the other two onyl show the option to import from another browser on the favorites bar. All three are signed in under the same MS account and set to sync under settings. I'm assuming that the favorites bar should just start sync.
Today I started trying Microsoft Edge for the first time and noticed that I can't find my list of favorites which I have on Internet Explorer. In WP8/8.1 the list used to show up after I hard reset my phone, so I am wondering if Microsoft Edge has its own list of synchronized favorites, or if I have messed up with my WM10 where the browser couldn't synchronize to my account.
I am currently customizing my Win10 upgrade. I like to customize my Favorites … Folders before single URLs, and not have things necessarily in alphabetical order. So, is there a way to Export your Favorites to a file, so that when said file is Imported to another PCs browser, the Favorites retain the customized order?
A long while ago I downloaded SymMover and managed to really mess up my files. I managed to take Favorites, Desktop, and Downloads out of what I'm pretty sure is called the Navigation Pane. I have 2 different Download folders in the Pane, neither of which are the actual one, and I do not know where my Desktop folder is. I can get to it if I follow a link in my User file, but that's it.

Do I need to restore my computer to factory settings?
