Installation :: Upgrade Fails At 38% Configure Devices
Aug 1, 2015
I have made 3 attempts at upgrading my Toshiba Satellite notebook from Windows 7 home premium to windows 10. Have tried both the upgrade sent via the Microsoft message and using the media creation tool. All 3 times it stopped in configuring devices at 38%, 47% overall progress. The setuperrlog.txt is:
2015-08-01 11:36:02, Error MOUPG CInstallUI::GetDefaultLanguage(1527): Result = 0x80070002[gle=0x00000002]

How I should try to proceed?

I've successfully updated to Windows 10 on my two Surfaces, but there is some kind of issue on my desktop PC. The upgrade process from Windows 8 fails at about 71% total (Installing features and drivers at 91%), and the error I get is:
C1900101-40017 Windows Update ran into a problem.
When I click on "Get help with this error" I'm directed to a page with some general troubleshooting with Windows Update. I've run Windows update repair tool and it fixed some issues, but the installation failed again.
I have now tried freeing up more disk space which I admit was a bit tight and I'm preparing to run the update again. Still, I'd prefer if there was a more detailed error message or a log file where I could see what exactly went wrong, but there are no indications where I might find one (either in the error message, the troubleshooter, or Google). As it is, I'm shooting blind here and this will now be my fifth upgrade attempt.

I have been trying to upgrade 7pro for a day or so with no luck. First of all I tried the 'get windows 10 app' this tells me a update (KB2952664) is not installed. It was showing as failed in my update long but has since installed ok. However the app still says its missing. So I tried the media creation tool. This starts up fine but about 40 min in this screen appears
I press ok and after about 10 seconds the installer just closes, and that's it we are back to normal. I have tried this 3 times and I get the same result.

Upgrade of Win7 HP laptop -- not usual failure code. Upgrade done through Windows Update (copy was reserved). Gets to 24%, restarts, bring up Recovery screen, fails with 0xc0000f -- a required device isn't connected.
Only one physical drive in the laptop -- works fine under Win7.
Have seen threads about problems with System Reserved being too small for Win10 (200MB for Win7 vs. 450MB for Win8). Tried shrinking C: and resizing System Reserved.
Repeats above problems -- plus, leaves laptop in weird mode with Win10 partially installed, a new Recovery partition, and nothing working (meaning, Win7 won't boot anymore).
Am now trying option of installing from DVD, after merging boot stuff into C: partition and removing System Reserved -- figuring that if Win10 requires a System Reserved partition, it knows how to create one the right size.

I tried updating my Win8.1 to Win10 twice.
The first time, it hung at 26% total, 89% copying files. Then it bricked my system completely so I made a clean install of Windows 8.1. There was nothing else installed than Windows & Updates.
Tried to update it with a stick made by the Media Creation Tool --> Stuck at 23%, 77% copying files.
I tried everything: Disabled Network Adapter, pulled all Cables (only mouse left) out, I also detached my second HDD.
I am trying to install Win10 on my SSD (Samsung 830 Pro, 130GB). I am running a Z77 Chipset.
I'd love to install completely new with the Image but that doesn't work because of the activation later on..
I'm stuck with a fresh Windows 8.1 install now, that's not really what I wanted. I'd love to update to 10 since I had it as a Insider too.

Although I have been notified that my upgrade is ready to install, every time I try this it fails with an error message code of '80070002'. I've followed MS instructions on how to fix but guess what - it still fails.

When upgrading to W10 it failes. W10 can't get the source disk. I think it's because i have already moved my W7 from the HDD to a ssd disk using Samsung migration program delivered with the ssd disk.

I received notification that my Windows 10 reservation is now ready. After downloading and preparing to install through Windows Update, I receive a failure notice with error code 80070005.
I am currently on Windows 8.1 Pro x64. I have administrative privileges.
For several months, I've had an ongoing issue when I run 'sfc /scannow', corrupt files are found, some of which it cannot be repaired. From the CBS.log file, I found these related to "utc.app.json". I was assured that when Microsoft sent out update for DiagTracking (KB3022345), it causes a false positive for file corruption.
Also worth noting is that I currently have my boot SSD partitioned and configured to dual boot Windows 8.1 Pro and Linux. This all works fine, and I've been told this shouldn't be a problem for upgrading to Windows 10.
I would like to do an in-place upgrade to Windows 10, not a clean install, so that I keep all of my software and settings as they are.

Laptop Samsung NP300V5A. Sound stops working about a month after Win 10 upgrade. No changes done at the time.Audio devices show up under Device Manager, but not under Playback/Recording Devices. Same for Realtek Sound Manager - it doesn't see the devices. I can install, delete and update drivers under Device manager but it doesn't make any difference. It is not a physical problem, tested on Linux live CD.
Solutions tried:
-Installing various versions of HD Realtek Drivers (including windows update version)
-Installing/Removing Realtek software.
-Enabling/Disabling devices under Device Manager
-Called spirits of ancestors. Seemed like it worked for a while, but ended up being a joke.
-Did system restore to various dates.
-Restarted in safe mode
-Restarted various services such as Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, Plug'n'Pray, Power, etc.
-Checked system, application and driver even logs.
-Tried a couple of registry fixes. Angered spirits of ancestors. Turning gray..
-Reinstalled chipset drivers
-Rebooted about 30 times
-Sound Device Troubleshooting finds no issues
-Display Disabled Devices is enabled

I have upgraded 3 devices from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 (Home)
DeviceDefault OSUpgraded toHP LaptopWindows 8.1 64 BitWindows 10 Home 64 BitHP Desktop PCWindows 8.1 64 BitWindows 10 Home 64 BitDell Venue 8 ProWindows 8.1 32 BitWindows 10 Home 32 Bit
All three devices are logged in with same MS account.
After the upgrade I just noticed that all 3 devices have same Product Key and almost similar Product ID
i.e.
Product Key: AB1DE-FG2IJ-KL3NO-PQ4ST-UV5XY
Product ID: 00123-10000-00000-XY123
Except the last 3 digits in Product ID ( underlined ) everything is exact same on all three devices.
Before upgrade, all devices were using the OEM Product Keys came with them and everything was different. Now it is all the same. I do understand that I am not supposed to get a new Product key for each device or installation, it is a free upgrade that MS will validate online on each installation using some sort of Hardware Hash/ Identity from my devices. But still...
If I now perform clean install on all of, hopefully it shouldn't cause any problem, or would it?MS is giving same Product Key, Product ID to all my devices because they are attached to same MS account, or is MS giving same Product Key/ ID to all who are upgrading from a specific type of Source Windows Version and Edition?Say same Product Key/ ID is only because of same MS account to all 3 devices, suppose I upgrade a fourth device, but before upgrade switch to Local Account, will MS still give me same Product Key/ ID?I install fresh Windows quite a lot of times, like to play around and mess around a lot, when I have time. Sometimes even change (experiment with) RAM, HDD, SSD, and even processor. My concern is that I might lose Windows 10 validity.

So I've been trying to update to WIN 10 a lot of times since it came out. Unfortunately the update fails around 80-90% and a BSOD shows up. The BSOD says something like Kernel Inpage Error. I've tried to update from Windows Update, the media creator tool and from the "Get Windows 10" program.

I have a HP desktop with W-7 that the HD is failing. (Almost failed)
I can't do a clone or a system image.
I installed a new HD and booted from my latest USB Upgrade from the Windows Media Creation tool.
I skipped the activation as it installed.
Now when I use the original product key, it fails to activate.

My laptop was upgraded to Windows 10 two days ago but my desktop has not received the green light yet. I was reading that if you downloaded the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's web site that it had an option that would allow up to upgrade your PC or create an ISO install disk. I downloaded the app on my laptop and created an ISO disk as a backup in case I need to do a clean install on that platform but when I tried to run the app on my desktop it brings up the UAC prompt asking if I want to run this program and when I click Yes, nothing happens.
I read some thread somewhere that if you're having problems with this app you need to do a selective startup where you don't run any startups and you disable all of the services and after restarting, I tried this and after restarting my PC running the Media Creation app again failed to do anything .
If I run Windows Update it says I have no updates pending but it was interesting that every time I've run the Media Creation Tool it puts an entry in my update log that says the update failed. The fact is the upgrade has not failed in the normal sense only the Media Creation Tool failed.
My concern is that I have a reservation for the upgrade but that too might fail so I'd like to get my desktop upgraded to Windows 10 asap.

If I use the Window 10 Upgrade System Tray Icon to do the download then it will auto-resume with no data loss if the internet connection fails. If I try to download Win 10 Upgrade some other way then it does not have auto-resume and I'll lose the data and have to start over.
I have 3G cellular internet here in India. It is unreliable and slow and often drops out. So auto-resume is an absolute necessity if I want to successfully upgrade to Win10.

My plan is soon after I get the Win 8.1 laptop to download and install Win10. Here 3G cellular internet is slow and unreliable. I'm scared that if I try to download Win10 it will fail and I'll have to start the download from the beginning.
Someone told me that the Win10 download includes the ability to auto-resume so that if a download fails it can re-start from where it left off once the internet comes back. Is that true? I need to get confirmation on this before I get my new Win8.1 laptop.
If Win10 download really does have auto-resume capability then I can do the Win10 download and resume as needed if the download fails. without losing data.
How to confirm that Win10 download has auto-resume capability so downloaded data is not lost.
